The NCHSAA Board of Directors has voted against teams playing live on television other than the contracted games with Tine Warner. Even before that contract it was not allowed. The thought is a TV game woukd hurt the gates fur other schools and not surprisingly I have seen this brought up at Board meetings previously. I think if a school were playing in a Saturday they could get the Board to approve it.
There is not huge money in televised high school games. Byrnes gave up an 11,000 gate to get ESPN to televise their first TV game. The Shribe Bowl gets no money for tge telecast which is delayed. Hoover HS contracted to cover X amount of ad space for a game that they got no money from except for the gate split with an Okkahona school, This has changed somewhat but ESPN would rather show a low end FBS game than almost any high school game.
