Typically, I don't trumpet my team's wins other than for what might be considered as highly billed games. When I do make a post-game thread, about as often as not, it's to give props to a team that beat us.

We haven't enjoyed many wins over the past few seasons and I don't think we were favored to win this one. NC Preps Coaches poll by conference had Newton-Conover, first, and Lincolnton as fifth; granted, it's hard to do a preseason ranking in high school football.

I wanted to say thanks to our team and coaching staff for their efforts. I live near the high school, and for quite awhile I've seen some of our guys running the loop by the stadium on their own time, around the weight room and practicing, trying to get themselves conditioned for the season. This is the second year Coach Glass has been here, and I believe he and his staff had a lot to do with motivating our players to get ready.

Way to go, Wolves.

Side Note: WLON, the local radio station carried the West Lincoln versus North Lincoln game, last night. North won 10-6, but West had them down 6-0 at the half. Must have been a lot of defense.
I heard west had a couple of chances to win, and that North was missing some key players who are in the basketball playoffs.

You were the first person/thought that I had when I first saw the score.

Thanks for saying something, fellers. Shelby Lion and Cheerduck, two of NC Preps most respected posters.

Great win over what i am sure was a well coached NC team....Congrats. I sure wish we could be in a conference with you guys next season. Our middle school games are always competitive.

Thanks, LawnDog. It looks like Burns is going to be very tough, again, this season. Keep it going.

Good start for your school sir. Who knows maybe we might see you in playoffs! If so I sure hope you have to come to Ramseur :p

My friend, I don't know if I want us to meet up with the Wildcats. They're a top ten team, this year, and might be looking for a little payback. I know a guy from Charlotte Catholic who told me how tough they are.
We know about Eastern over here, too. They're an old tradition that's left its mark all across the state.

I have to say, though, it would be nice to make a road trip to a hyped up, highly anticipated game, one of those kind that you've been thinking about all week, and deep into the playoffs on a cold, late November evening. Lord, how I miss it.
We owe ER a visit. They made the trek over here so maybe one day we can come over to Ramseur.
Everybody That I've met from Randolph County is all right. I knew a man from Asheboro and a woman from Liberty and I know a fine poster from Ramseur.

BTW, some of the Lincolnton kids play American Legion baseball for Cherryville Post 100. I think it was 1981, Cherryville was in the semi-finals against Eastern Randolph's American Legion team and they would alternate locations. When they played in Ramseur the games were held at what I'm thinking was McRavion Park (not sure of the spelling, going off of memory). I wanted badly to go over and watch them play but I had obligations, here.

One other thing: If I ever have the pleasure of meeting you I'll have to tell you about being suspended from Lincolnton High School for fighting in the cafeteria, over a piece of chicken, LOL. The person I was fighting with was a descendant of Ramseur's namesake.

As always a pleasure reading your posts. Who knows what will happen this spring?
About that long ago Legion series...
Yeah it was 1981. ER played games behind Ramseur school then. It’s called Craven field. ER played HS games there too. Finished 2nd in state to South Point in 3A. Had hopes of playing in State Legion finals same year. Cherryville put an end to that mostly because of left handed center fielder who may have been the toughest out I ever saw in person. Fortenberry? Can’t remember exactly. Anyway the shortstop on HS team was 3rd baseman on Legion. That was a looong ride to Cherryville when you had to get up and prime tobacco next morning. They spanked us 4-1 in that series I think but I had fun playing in it. I can’t play SS or even 3rd anymore but I think that center fielder is still hitting line drives somewhere😂
Thanks for letting me take a trip down memory lane.

theKidd12, You played on that team ? Eastern was good. The Cherryville centerfielder was Jimmy Fortenberry, from East Lincoln. He was a big athletic kid. His father was a running back for Lincolnton in the late 50's early 60's. To play shortstop and third base tells me you had to have been quick.
Seem like it was the Lincolnton paper that did a preview of the 1981 Eastern Randolph-Cherryville series. I may be way off on this but I think it said that summer, Eastern was trailing Reidsville, came from behind and beat them, finished their regular schedule and went through the Area III playoffs without losing.
As always, it's good to hear from you. Thanks for commenting on this thread.

Yeah I used to be skinny 😂 If my old brain can remember correctly we came back from 8 runs down in bottom of 9th against Reidsville. Scott Bankhead had taken himself out probably after throwing 150 pitches. Friend of mine says we won like 19 in a row after that. Mr Fortenberry put brakes on that winning streak though. Counting HS season I played baseball from March all the way until the middle of August. Most fun year I personally ever had in sports. Now with little man’s career over I just read message boards and live vicariously 😎

SWO-1,Thank you, my friend. There wasn't much information about this game. I just learned, this morning, that Newton-Conover had us down 13-7 going into the fourth quarter, when Lincolnton scored 21 points. we got East Lincoln, next week. I don't know if we'll be able to do that with them. I hear their strong suit is defense. EL Coach Lubowicz, seems to know how to keep a team from scoring. Reminds me of defensive Coach Sawvill from Clinton back in 2005.

Congrats to SWO. I read your updates on their game with Dixon. Sounded like the Stallions just blew by them. I hope they can keep it going. I also hope the harsh weather out there where you are has moderated. -10 degrees, Give me a break.

theKidd12, I hope the Little Man gets you some Grandchildren. Then everything he does will be appealed to Grandpa. "But that's not what Grandpa said". LOL.
