You may, or may not, know that Independence did not have a .500 record. They actually were 9-1, and the one game they lost was by 3 points. In my opinion the seeding process royally crapped on them.
Their first game was at Bank of America stadium against what was supposed to be a very good team. That team turned out to be a bust, and finished 4-6. In the seeding process Independence was penalized for playing a weak team.
In their last game they played their main rival, a team that has been accustomed for years to winning at least 8 regular season games. This year that team turned out to be a bust and finished 4-6. In the seeding process Independence was penalized for playing a weak team.
Another team that I respect very much plays in a combined 3A/4A conference, and plays mostly 3A teams. That team runs the table and does not loose a game and winds up with a very high seed that could give them home field advantage for several weeks.
Several teams with as many as 3 loses were seeded ahead of Independence, and were given home field advantage. The bottom line is, the seeding process is very convuluted, and doesn't come close to seeding the teams from best to worst.
About all I can say is I hope somehow the best team wins the last game.
