Fake Schools

My personal opinion is the charters should be in their own class due to being a non-boundary type of school. I don’t think metro teams from Charlotte and Raleigh should be playing small rural schools. Just my opinion.

But they are public schools and not fake!

I agree with you but what do you do about the high schools in counties with open enrollment or magnet high schools?

I know but there are some charters where 25 miles can be areas in 4 or 5 counties.

For example the Lake Norman area: Iredell, Mecklenburg, Catawba, Lincoln, and Gaston

Define the boundary to a county. In that same breath most of the schools that are magnet or have programs that allow kids to enroll from across the district are usually larger schools.

But I agree that schools that pull from such a large area need to be in their own division.

I think it was on agenda to pass a new bylaw where 75% of the schools voting can pass a bylaw now. Instead it was 75% of the total schools whether schools voted or not. So schools that didn’t care to vote was counted as a no.

You remember when they tried to vote on the parochial schools a few years ago. They had 75% approval because all the small schools voted but it failed due to not have 75% of the total vote. Bigger schools didn’t really vote on the issue so they remained.

I do remember that.

I think changing the bylaws to that wording is wise. Some principals could care less about athletics so I'm sure many of the ones that didnt vote have those principals.

By and large I agree. However how many “public” schools have either chosen to close or been forced to close because a variety of reasons mostly around the issue of missing money ?
The answer is not none.

Charter schools are public.
yeah if you think you the “lottery” is public your sadly mistaken….I think I already got into this with you before….nothing is gonna change your mind so continue with your legal segregation . I will not be replying anymore thanks

lots of choices in public schools with certain programs. In Guilford high schools offer a different program at each school.
for example
Page ROTC/IB

Southeast Guilford has FFA and other trades. Also has a program that works with the battery plant that is being built in liberty that will guarantee kids a job after completion

GTCC early college students can graduate with an associate and also access to programs and can still play sports at home school

Dudley offers certain foreign languages like Hebrew and Chinese and a IB program

Grimsley IB program and more

Smith, southwest Guilford and northern also offer specific programs. not to mention weaver which has the arts and some trades.

Students can sign up for these classes and attend any of the schools...plenty of choices

If the money for it is coming from public dollars, then yes.

School choice is great, but it shouldn't be subsidized and tax dollars shouldn't go to schools that aren't run by an elected board.

Carver coming back in that conference with y’all. They ever hire the right coach they are a sleeping giant.
Seems like the administration there has not gotten that right ever since Keith Wilkes left 20 something years ago. Or if they have, the administration runs him off for one reason or another before he has a chance to get them completely turned around.

If my tax dollars are being used and I want my kid to go to these public schools that are funded by my tax dollars and I’m ok with them not having elected officials then what’s the problem? You can choose to send yours to the traditional school too. It’s all ok. I shouldn’t have to pay taxes for you only if I want my kid to go somewhere that doesn’t shove things down their throats

Public dollars are intended to be used for EVERYONE and I know all the charter people say there is a lottery but everyone knows that lottery is not a true lottery (hence the legal segregation)….lol anyone who believes it is true honest lottery is in denial.

Now I agree our public schools need to get back to traditional CONSERVATIVE values and get rid of alL the liberal BS but that’s for a later discussion

That's an issue I have. What's wrong with every school having a little bit of everything? Why do we need specialization schools?

Nwg,
Well we agree on that last point but in order for that to really set in those schools have to suffer. This is the reason we keep voting republican for president and democrat for governor in this state. It’s mostly about this school stuff and it’s mostly state particularly the school workers that are doing that. If the funding is less and they realize that the reason is because of the crap they are pulling then maybe it will change

Well it’s hard enough to find teachers and finding someone to teach these classes that not a lot of kids sign up for at every school I think is logistic nightmare

Yeah I keep voting republican although I do understand most republicans are charter supporters(I know it makes me hypocritical but I agree on pretty much all other republican policies)

Same here. Look I went to Owen High School. I graduated there. My dad did as well. And so did my Daughter. My son now goes to a private Christian school but if things were different in the public schools I would also send my son to public school. I just can’t justify sending him to a liberal indoctrination academy that is the public school system

Owen is liberal? Idk exactly where it is but from
What I have heard public schools outside the big counties guilford, meck, wake and a few others are pretty much good ole schools. I know some folk who work in stokes and rockingham and they say the liberal softies are not that bad.

And with your grandson going to a private Christian school I have zero issues with. You or his family pay extra money for that. If you’re not taking tax dollars I’m good with it. Yal earn it and it’s yals CHOICE (that seems to be the key word on this thread)

Conservative values? So indoctrination?

Want to take a look at teaching standards and pick out what is liberal bs?

Buncombe county is the only county in the west that is blue. Owen is in Buncombe. It’s my son that I am sending to Christian school and yes we do pay up for it but I would have no problem sending him to a charter school if I found one I thought was good enough

Public schools are a public good. Public schools aren't for YOU but for the betterment of and for a productive society.
Says the liberal. There is a reason that college aged kids vote blue overwhelmingly. I have a kid in college now and have seen first hand how this public education goes in the high schools and younger

Gotcha assuming Buncombe is Asheville I don’t blame you one bit for sending your child somewhere else….for some reason I thought Owen was near Murphy
