CVAC 2022 - Week 3

Anybody know how the maiden middle school kids look.
Does it matter? Half the guys on Maiden's roster never sniffed Maiden Middle School, so not sure that is a valid question. LOL....I had to go there being a Bandys Alumn. Not sure about Maiden, but have heard that Mill Creek (Bandys feeder) has some good looking athletes coming through. Oh No, I let the cat out of the back again. I guess those kids are now fair game for Maiden...LOL Did it again. I'm only joking and glad to see Maiden giving those kids an opportunity they couldn't get at Bandys. Only wish the Trojans were as well. Nothing better than watching a Maiden/Bandys rivalry game where both teams are good. Heck even if they aren't, still great atmospheres. I think Maiden, if they can stay healthy, will push the West this year. Anytime you have a threat like Culliver to change a game at any point, you always are going to be championship calliber. Best of luck to all teams in the CVAC.

We're bringing in business...have several large developments in the works for approval...they'll bring in another hundred kids about. Might make us pretty close to 3A numbers in 5 years.

Whole area is growing. North Lincoln might be 4A in a few years. They do good to keep up with the 2As. Maiden be ok with a jump up. North, not so much lol

Odds that Catawba County puts another school nearby in the area? Startown Road? Can Maiden HS expand with new construction and/or mobile classrooms?

BFA, sometime when you come down to visit family in the North Lincoln area, ask them to drive you over to see the housing development near Lincoln Charter School (East Campus) off of old NC 16. It looks like a few hundred houses jammed into one neighborhood. For most of these homes a driveway separates them but they are actually nice looking and most appear to be occupied. There is another one behind Harris-Teeters, near the intersection of Old NC 16 and NC 73, and I've heard there are others being planned.

very understandable for that area. Of course demographics and whatnot is an interesting study. Charlotte area there’s jobs……(here’s we’re I break into my standup comedy) ….West Jefferson…home of the Ashe Co Huskies. A school that has jumped up to 3A….I don’t get it…I just don’t get it. What…in the kangaroo poo…are young couples doing up there producing youngins’ and were are these young couples working to provide for these youngins….when there’s NOTHING but litrle Nick nack shops up there, a cheese factory which don’t have but prob 12 15 workers, and a Walmart and Lowes?? Keep in mind, a kid walking off the stage in a cap and gown there moves away to college or goes military(and never comes back except to visit) unless they stay to keep up a family business or farm…or make meth LOL…but this school still has numbers and had bumped up to 3A.

just being funny but at same time you know I gotta point

Saw some heavy earth moving equipment over there close to GKN….it appears that the developers have started.

Rumor has it…total project is 250 homes… 1st phase begins with 50 homes.

We’ll see.

We'll also see if we get younger families or older couples...should be a healthy mix but sometimes you can't tell

BFR, When East Burke opened up, the home side was on the press box side, they had medal bleachers on the visitor's side on top of the hill. East Burke kept filling the home side and having to sit on the hill beside it that when they finally poured the visitors side, they decided to make it bigger for the east burke crowds. Once they went to 2A and the crowds got a lot smaller, they moved us back over. I think the coaches didn't like having to deal with the chain gang home and away games.

Thanks for the info. I never claimed to know my East Burke history so usually if I make a statement like that I try to indicate not to take it to the bank or set it in stone. Alot of times it’s just comical stuff that’s said anyway.

BFR, Thomasville poster OC Davis has a summer home in Ashe County. I've never been to West Jefferson or that area but being high in the Appalachians, I'm sure the scenery/landscape attracts people.
Our friend Cheerduck was or maybe still is a managerial consultant for a company, there. I'll have to ask them about that.

No color scheme change… just an alternate gray uniform like most big city teams have

They're our arch nemesis but that is a good looking jersey. To me, green and gray look very similar. Don't know if this one is the green one or the gray one but it looks good to me.

Ashe County is a fine place and lots of folks are buying homes there…..summer homes. Mostly Floridiots, but there are others. Don’t know that there are a lot of newbies with kids. But Ashe County has only one high school and hasn’t really been bitten by the charter bug.

OC, I was in class at a building in downtown Boone, some years back. Just behind this building was a mountain, think it's called Howard's Knob. As best as I could tell there were homes on top of it that looked fairly nice. I asked someone from Watauga County how people got up there in winter. The mountain looked like it was about twenty degrees from the base. They told me it could be done with a 4 wheel drive but most were summer homes. I was also told it was something special to be up there when the wind was blowing hard. It looked so steep I wondered how you could stand up.
OC, in case you were curious, to my knowledge, we don't have any summer homes in Lincolnton.:)

Ashe Co IS a fine place to live. Absolutely, me and wife visit West Jefferson and walk around at least once every 6 months or so. What I’m talking bout is sustaining and working, making a living. There’s really no big places of employment there that’s what I’m talkin bout. We’re there’s 70 to 100 plus workers at one time so to speak. I mean if bunches of people are commuting and working from home, cool. Just from lack of numerous places of employment, weres these kids coming from were they have to jump up to 3A? I know they did it due to winning all the time in their conference whatever they sport so just to make it fair they jump up to 3A even though they have 2A numbers. That’s what I heard on here somewere.

Howard’s Knob is pretty far up. Its claim to fame was the wind turbine forty or fifty years ago.

Lincolnton may not have summer homes, but has some mighty fine folks. Only transplant I’m aware of was a certain Baptist preacher who hailed from Thomasville. I believe he has moved back to the Chair City. If they ever build any “winter homes”, let me know. Our summer place is more of a “everything but below 20 degrees place”. I may need something a little less populous if you can keep the Lake Norman crowd from encroaching.

Mr. Google says Ashe County High has 775 students. Not sure if that’s accurate, but you’re definitely right about limited job opportunities. Blue Ridge Energy and Skyline employ some. Lots of farmers and small business folks. But not a lot of large corporate employers for sure. I know some who commute to Wilkesboro and even Lenoir. The average price of a home has increased 24% in the last year, but is projected to drop 13% over the coming year. But it’s 72 and sunny. 55 last night. That in itself makes up for a lot.

Maiden starts with a 4 and out...turnover on downs. Gave St and short field. They score in 3 plays. 7-0. Maiden comes back out and scores in 5 plays. XP no good. 7-6 Saint
