CVAC 2021 - Week 10 (10/22)

I do agree with you, partly...but I'm specifically referring to player experiences with how coaching has reacted to the injuries. This from actual players. How is a coach supposed to react to the players that can play? Losing studs is hard, but when you blast the backups and tell them your going to start JV players over them, in my opinion, you're a dumbass. Look up Schofield's Definition of Discipline. When the general feeling from a handful of starters, available and injured, is "our coaches don't know what they are doing" then there is a problem. From my personal perspective there are issues with their staff...one being their "trainer" who is clueless, coaching staff that gets caught up in the game and draws penalties, coaching that doesn't know how to properly execute their next man up.

Yes it is easy to say things from the sideline, but I am no idiot. I've played under the arguably best coach in NC history in Tom Brown, I played college football at The Citadel, coached the flag league there, founded a no pads tackle league in Charlotte that lasted 5 years, I've coached rec league 5 years in Maiden and 2 years in SC. I'm not a genius, but I can clearly see where they've gotten it wrong and I didn't have to sit back with a cigar and ponder on it.
How do HS players know or even think the way to say, "our coaches don't know what they are doing?" Oh, from parents, relatives, fans, etc that don't have any better thing to do than bash coaches instead of looking at the talent or lack thereof that is on the field. Their coaching staff, honestly, is probably one of the most veteran staffs around. Now, the trainer, well, I can't say I disagree on that one...lol...And I'm sure Tom Brown, as good as he was at Maiden, was equally not as good at EB. Do you know why? Well, it wasn't because he forgot how to coach or how he was treating or not treating players, etc. He was a master motivator and could get kids to play a higher level than they ever dreamed, but sometimes even great coaches have nothing to do with the problem. Same thing Bandys is and has been facing for quite some time now. Plus, you throw in the "transfers" that MHS just happened to pick up and BHS would be just fine right now. I think BHS will be fine and finish up on a strong note once everyone is healthy.
I do, however, hope the best for your nephew as he sounds like a terrific young man and a player. Best wishes on a speedy recovery for him. And best wishes to your Blue Devils in the playoffs as I'm hoping they represent the CVAC with a State Championship.

We agree on most things, best to you and yours D23. As far as transfers go...as a Maidonian I can say this is something I hear week in and week out from every fan base, we don't control who wants to, or who happens to, transfer to Maiden. I will say that every transfer we've gotten has been vetted and approved and falls within the NCHSAA rules. No one we've acquired has been brought on through nefarious or other means other than what is legal and approved. The head coach and athletic director meet with the player and their parents and dot all I's and cross all T's before any transfer is finalized and submitted. Transfers happen plenty, and have benefitted other teams in WNC over the years, just so happens Maiden has benefitted from them the past 2 years. Before our 2 Bandys transfers we had a couple Maiden kids transfer to Bandys...it happens, especially with schools so close and even more so when Maiden annexed more county land. My nephew, in Bandys school district, has a Maiden address, but lives 1/8 of a mile on the east side of HWY 16. It is what it is...we don't make the rules, but we damn sure follow them. To my knowledge Maiden has only broken protocol once, in 2011 in 1 game vs St. Stephens, and that came counted as a forfeit by us.

Good Afternoon, Gentlemen. All is well in North Hickory and it's a beautiful night for some high school football. I try not to post a lot of the boards lately as I've been too busy being retired and all. Let me answer Lincolnton's question and the game between Freedom and East Burke having the name "Fat Friday". As BFR stated earlier, it comes from the fact that both team's fan's were asked to bring canned food items to the games for the needy and hungry. Early on, the series began in 1974, the crowds were easily in the 8-10,000 range. The games were exciting, no matter the records going n, and most of the times the game would be decided late by less than a touchdown.
I did not attend the EB vs Independence game as HHS was home that night taking on Charlotte Catholic. HHS was lead by FB Austin Johnson, a future University of Tennessee starter at lth linebacker and fullback, but fell hard to after a 13-0 start on the season. Johnson later played for the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers briefly.
I did get to watch a Tom Brown coached team take on Shelby one night in Icard. It was a one-sided game with the Golden Lions winning handily, but the Cavaliers played them tough. It was only the 2nd time I ever recall one player running back 2 kickoffs for touchdowns and the Cavaliers had a kid do it that night.
On the 3rd play of the game, Shelby threw a touchdown pass on a post pattern and Coach Brown was highly upset at the EB DB. He was yelling, "We told you what they were going to do, we told you". He wanted the kid off the field right then. When the players didn't get off immediately, Brown called time out, before Shelby kicked the extra point, and took the kid out. At this point, it was plain that Coach was going to use that situation as a teaching moment to the DB and the rest of the EB team and coaching staff. He meant business.

Good luck to everyone's team tonight and hopefully there will be no more injuries for anyone.

And boom...there strikes our 1 weakness. L with the kick return. 14-7 Maiden. 9:33 2nd.

I’ll be on by my friend. I’ll put on my white cap look for an old man. You’ll find me somehow.

Congrats to West Lincoln but Congratulations again to BurkeForReal, and BurkeCountyMan. Looks like he was right about East Burke showing improvements. I hope we can play West Lincoln that tough, but like east Lincoln, they probably hate our guts and will play hard against us.

We fumble the kick off and west score one play later but EB drove back down to score. we just don't have any blocking on the o line!! a block punt which we held them to a FG after that D played great also all the players were back together for the first time in a few games. We will be much improve next year!!
