Bandys at West Caldwell- Should be a good game. Both teams look to build for the future. If Bandys don't turn the ball over I like their chances if so then West Caldwell can pull out a win. I'll take Bandys by 7.

Bunker Hill at Newton-Conover- Will the Red Devils finish winless at home? Bunker Hill is playing for a home playoff game for the first time in years. I believe Coach Reid will have his Bears ready after running into buzzsaw vs Maiden. Newton-Conover needs this win to boost their rpi and sneak into the playoffs. I can't pick against the Hill. I'll take the Bears by 14.

East Burke at West Lincoln-East Burke has surprised me being so down. I thought they would win more than one game. West Lincoln for some reason plays almost every game close but I believe they play a great game this game. I like the Rebels by 21.

Maiden at Lincolnton-If Maiden plays anything like Friday vs Bunker Hill running clock by the 3rd quarter if they play like they did vs West Lincoln then a closer game. Maiden is a buzzsaw and the answer is how close Lincolnton keeps it. I like Maiden by 35

My 2 cents with comic relief

Bandys will roll past West. This would be a gate seller if it was the 90s and early 2000s Funny to see 2 programs struggle one for years and another just suddenly. Bandys will have a better chance at ball control and will do this thing by 21. I’d be surprised if it was by less.

The Hill, well what can I say bout the Hill and this one. The Hill finally has athletes showing their stuff other than on the track. Newton has down years and it shows. Many other years this matchup would not be a problem for Newton but funny how the tables turn. I’ll give The Hill Winning by 28

The Cavs, my people. Another matchup that years ago would be a joke but lately the jokes been on them. Too much West in this one and same as listed above I’ll spot them 28 for the very least. Enjoy it while it last Cat square warriors cause EB is rising. In tallent and grit within the next year or so. Remember 06’ EB- 3 game wins. 07’ 3rd round against Indy. Can’t see their stock jumping that much but something good is coming

Man, last but not least what is USUALLY a classic gate seller that goes all the way back to prob the leather helmet days is this booger. But this year the blue boys will have the bench in at least by the 4th early. Look for wolves to play hard in a classic like this one. Maiden by only 28. Lincolnton will come to play

----------
--Maiden 8-0(5-0) at Lincolnton 4-4(4-1)
--Maiden has outscored opponents 350-60 (avg. 43-8) this year and sits at 1st in the conference
--Lincolnton has been outscored by opponents 149-159 (avg. 18-20) this year and sits at 3rd in the conference

--Maiden has won 8 straight this year
--Lincolnton lost 4 straight to open the year and has won their last 4, truly a tale of two teams for the Lincolnton Wolves. In their 4 losses they were outscored 39-108 (avg. 9-27). In their 4 wins they've bested their opponents 110-51 (avg. 27-13). They've gotten hot at the right time and will most likely find themselves in the Playoffs.

Recent History for Maiden/Lincolnton (Since 2004):

--Since 2004, Maiden and Lincolnton have played 20 times (including 3 playoff games), and have split this series 10-10 with Maiden winning the last 5 meetings (which is since 2016, when head coach Will Byrne started at Maiden).
--In these 20 games, Lincolnton has outscored Maiden 520-508 (avg. 26-25)
--There have been 2 shutouts in these 20 games, both by Maiden defenses
--In these 20 games, 11 have been played down in the Valley of the Wolves next to Clark Creek, Lincolnton leads those 11 home games 6-5.

Of all the non Maiden games I've seen this year...Lincolnton is by far the most physical team I've seen play. We're going to have our hands full this week. Good luck to both teams. Play aggressive through the whistle and keep your head on a swivel.

Can someone confirm how many starters Bandys had back vs Newton-Conover and get drilled that bad?
I believe all but three of them, my nephew is still out too, and all along the line...Nephew says the O-line was useless against Newton. My personal 2-cents is that their problems all start with the coaching. Team morale is way down after Lincolnton and the coaches haven't done anything to improve that. Attitude reflects leadership.

-East Burke at West Lincoln: The Rebels are tough and capable of playing with anyone in the conference. I look for them to beat East Burke. The Cavaliers aren't just going to lay down they will fight back. I saw them Friday night and I'm glad we don't see them again until next season. West by 14

-Bunker Hill at Newton-Conover: I have some sentiments for both. Newton-Conover from it having been in the WNCHSAA and from so many years of battling with Lincolnton... On the other hand I have a friend who is from Claremont and played for the Bears and who married a Lincolnton girl. He and his family still live here. I also had a special friend who taught school in that area, once, a long time ago.
In some peculiar way a big loss can be like a big win. it can either fire a team up or deflate them, but I don't see BH being down. Surely they've been told "Let's learn from last week and move on"...Bunker Hill by 12

-Bandys at West Caldwell: I believe Bandys was a decent team that's been hampered by injuries. I'm guessing they still have some key players out. The Warriors must be hungry for a win and they have a big chance this Friday. West Caldwell by 6

-Maiden at Lincolnton: Oh, that game... We all know Maiden is one of the premier 2A teams in North Carolina. They literally thrashed Bunker Hill last week, a team who beat us by two scores. Anyone who knows anything about this blue force of nature knows they have speed, size and an arsenal of weapons...
Lincolnton by a point.

West Caldwell will be hungry for the win. They played South Caldwell and Hibriten close and heard they played West Lincoln hard. Bandys to lose to Newton-Conover that bad is just sad. No disrespect to Newton-Conover but they are very youthful and the Bandys team I saw vs West Lincoln should have not got blown out by Newton-Conover unless they had multiple starters out

The West/Hibriten game wasn’t as close as the final score indicated!!!

That’s mighty generous of you to only give WL 14 points over EB. I’d say it’s more like 28 to 35 just based off of them beating North Lincoln(not as good as 2 years ago but they hold their own) and keeping it close with Maiden. Maybe Maiden had a bad game that game and WL took advantage.

This being a decent conference maybe the playoff teams can at least hang with Shelby for a quarter or 2. Those poor guys man, got it bad with a cupcake of all cupcake schedules but keep in mind, Hibriten 17’ also had boring schedule and still made it happen.

BFR, I thought I was being generous to West Lincoln. If I were a gambling man and betting a thousand dollars there is absolutely no way I would give 14 points. I might, just maybe give East Burke and 3... I'm trying not to overrate my team but the Cavaliers are not bad at all. They sure had some of us Lincolnton fans worried.
We were up 28-20 in the fourth quarter and EB had just scored. I asked one of the old Wolves if he thought we would break 30 points for the first time this season. He said "If we don't we could very well lose".

Makes sense l. I’m behind my alma mater all the way but when they are not playing like that should of missing some pieces here and there something they can’t help etc I call it like I see it. The upcoming years from what I gather will be EBs time in this conference. Maybe not over Maiden as I can see Maiden running the tables just like Crest did in the NW4A before they left. But look for and I I’d hope, Cavs will be ready next year. They losing some big guys this spring so maybe they be ok

Well…I see you boys have been busy…especially Grizz! I’m loving those “Prelim Brackets”…it’s still a little early…I’m betting somebody bows up….over here in the west …and turns that bracket a flip! Might be Lincolnton!😂

I’m loving Mr. Lincolntons’ picking of West Caldwell over Bandys…ya know…they’re winless…and still ranked 44 (2aWest) with their RPI #. They would be high 30’s in the (2aEast) Hard to believe!..and yet… West Caldwell had a very tough non conference schedule! Bandys had a great team… injuries just decimated them. Imma take Bandys …in a thriller…. But would not be surprised if West Caldwell wins their first game.

Here’s another one….Newton Conover! It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they beat Bunker Hill at Newton…why not?….here’s why….Newton is 0-3 at home…3-1 on the road. But it’s Newton…and no one knows what Newton is gonna do! I’m taking the Bears….but I got a feeling!

West Lincoln -East Burke…Will be a slobber knocker of a game! Low scoring slugfest….I’m taking the Johnny’s!….due to experience….it seems all of West Lincoln’s games have come down to the wire this year. This one won’t be any different!

Wolves hosting the Boom! Devils.
Throw the records out! …as Grizz said…we’ve split the last 20 games against each other! Nuff said! The Wolves are so young…I chuckle…thinking about that game versus East Lincoln. The Wolves had a chance to win that game… but just couldn’t get out of their own way. There’s no doubt….that Lincolnton is the most improved team in this conference. I…ALWAYS DREAD…playing ‘em! This one is no different!
I’m taking Maiden by 1. 😉

Good luck to all our CVAC brothers!… let’s see how much we can disrupt that Prelim bracket!….poor Grizz!😜

MC, my friend, thank you for showing kindness to the Wolves. We know the Blue Devils are very good this year and I know you're trying to not rub our snouts in it; but if you decide to do that, believe me, it's good. You and GDevil and other Maiden faithful have earned it. Heck, there are few people who wouldn't be crowing with a team like you got.
Don't get me wrong, us kindly Lincolnton sorts always think we have a chance but in the middle of the day when old men sit in their porch swings and ruminate on what's important to them I try and let my objectivity guide me, but I better not go into that. :)

An old story told a few times I love bringing up. I know a lot of high school games are usually predictable, college sometimes, pros ehhh here and there, but this fri this conf yeah.

The story- 1998 EB and Freedom Fat Friday. Used to be the biggest hypest largest game in area espacially when conf championship on line. CROWDED. Well EB that year had lost to everybody by large margins that Freedom rolled on. They were already conf champs coming into the game win or lose. EB was winning at the half to everybody’s surprise. Freedom came back and won by a TD I think or by 10 or 12, it wasn’t much I’ll say that. Unbelievable. On paper Freedom was supposed to win by 28 or better. Now....I say all that to say this- this week in the CVAC there might be some games go down like that as in throw the records out watch what happens... but ehhh I don’t know man.

I’d say every team favored to win will win big, except maybe the Bandys West Caldwell could go either way. WL and EB the way WL is handling things it’ll be WL by 21 at the very least. Watch and see. I won’t be there cause good camp meeting going on in Drexel.

BFR, did you ever hear where the term Fat Friday for the East Burke-Freedom game is from ? I know where Mardi Gras came from but I wondered how the term originated.

Im not exactly sure but I know that cheerduck will more than likely know. He seems to be the wise man of the posters. I hope he’s ok I hadn’t seen him post much in a while. What I gather it is about food drives cause every EB Freedom game in long long past people brought can goods and they collected them at the ticket booths. Not sure how Fat Friday got it’s name from that but can goods to the hungry and out of work I’m all for.

That makes sense. It's about where that came from. As far as I know Cheerduck is good. Since you mentioned it I'll have to call and check on him.

You must know him personally like that. I think I met him at the EL EB playoff game in 15’. Might have been another poster but mighta been him, minds bout gone lol. I’ve only met one other poster live at a game and that was Beamer at one of the Hibriten playoff games. He loves his Panthers ha ha. Good fella.

That’s correct BFR, I’ve known Mr.Duck a long time.I consider him a good friend. He has done extensive research on the Glen Alpine Green Wave football program among others. He even has one of their helmets. He does a lot for people.

I haven’t met Beamer but some day I’ll drive to Lenoir and watch Hibriten play and I’ll try to locate him. It’s a fun place to go to a game.

Meant to ask you Lincolnton, what big games have you been to that was East Burke related? You make it to the big Indy game in 2007 3rd round, couldn’t get a seat anywhere, Shatley was the star of the whole game even though they didn’t win, big banners saying EB vs Charlotte All Stars, that game? Make it to the 15’ EB EL game in 2015?

Except for last Friday, I had never seen the Cavaliers play. I've seen Freedom a few time. Back in the day I would say I was going to a Fat Friday game because of the rivalry. I also wanted to see EB play at home. I've heard they have one of the nicest stadiums between here and Asheville.

*Side Note: You mentioned the East Burke-East Lincoln game. I was at the Lincolnton game. We were playing Mountain Heritage at home that night in the third round of the playoffs.

I was wondering bout that 07’ game at EB cause tons of people from all over the area came to that game whose teams were either out of playoffs or wanted to see something historic. No question Cheerduck mighta been there. 3rd round. They lost to a good team, loaded with recruited tallent yeah. Minus a couple mistakes they’d took it down to the wire.

Also taking place the same night was that North Lincoln game at Mt Plesant were they were cheated big time. Everyone said the Mt Pleasant guy clearly fumbled the ball and knees were not down when North jumped on it refs said down by contact. That was one of two times North had a chance to go 4th round for first time ever. Prob the maddest Beam ever was at a game in his career and who could blame em. 19’ over time thriller with Burns, I was there. You mighta been there too. Very disappointing. Can’t see North even making it to 3rd round in the 3A realm. I hope so but I’d be surprised.

Hating ….that I must agree with you on North Lincoln making 3rd round….but it ain’t over!
I have a very close friend whose son plays for them.
For the record…. They’re some die hard Maiden fans….,.Cavaliers fans….that were there …..at the East Lincoln game.
No way!… We would miss that game!

The old war horse…Coach Brown was showing his arse!😉

That was also probably the 3rd time in East Burke history that they made 3rd round. 1st 1978 2nd 2007 and 3rd down at EL with Brown at the helm 2015. In essence that was a Maiden vs EL as well. RIP Tom Brown and of course RIP Danny Williams head coach of 1978 EB team.

Let’s go Brandon

BFR, sorry about that, you meant the East Burke Independence game. I don't know if Cheerduck was at that one or not.
The Wolves were in Moravian Falls, that night, the day after Thanksgiving 2007. We were fighting for our lives against Wilkes Central. They had our number and were really hard to handle. A lot of people were expecting us to beat them easy but those guys meant to get us. We beat them on a field goal late in the fourth quarter. The final score was 26-23.
I appreciate you mentioning 2007 it's memorable to us, here. We were 1-4 after five games and 4-4 (just what we are this year) after eight games. We would go on to win the title.
You're right, it's a lot of fun to have people who support other teams come to your school to watch your team play, especially when it's deep in the playoffs.

LHSfaninVA, I was worried about that. Last week I saw one of our key defensive players on the sideline. He was dressed out but he wasn't playing. I also saw one of our best running backs limping, late in the game. I thought to myself, last Friday, "I hope they aren't hurt badly" but I don't know what their status is for this week. Heard earlier in the season some of the JV players had been moved up, and others were moved up recently but I don't know this for sure. If I hear anything further about injuries I'll post it on here.

I just realized there’s a possibility that after this Friday night….there could be a 4-way tie for 2nd in the CVAC….heading into the last week of regular season!!
That would be a hot mess!
That’s good stuff!

…"I would prefer a 3-way tie for first place. A man can dream".
excerpt of a post by LHSfaninVA

LHSfaninVA, it's coincidental you said that. Just today I was thinking the same thing. I asked myself how realistic of a dream is it but no matter, we can still dream, can't we.
Oh, by the way, if you're ever on that Capital Beltway and you get behind one of our aged friends who's driving a Toyota Prius and he isn't going fast enough for you, don't be too hard on him. 😬

Coaching has NOTHING to do with injuries. They started with 22 kids and then 7-10 get hurt and most, if not all, were starters and best skill players on the team. They already lack talent and the little they did have was/is hurt. It's easy to say what you would do but NO COACH wants to lose but nothing you can do about it when injuries just kill your chances. Coaching at Bandys is fine as he knows how to coach and was a player at Bandys years ago. The problem is going to a gunfight with a fork. Not going to go well. When they were all healthy, they won a couple of games and were even able to play WL a close game. If you go back to his comments at the first of the year, the coach said if they can avoid injuries they can play with most. So, even he knew they were thin and a couple of injuries away from being where they are right now. Also, BHS lost a couple of kids to "transfers" that if they had them I'm sure coaching wouldn't be the issue and then the "coaching issue" would be thrown the other direction or team. SMH

I do agree with you, partly...but I'm specifically referring to player experiences with how coaching has reacted to the injuries. This from actual players. How is a coach supposed to react to the players that can play? Losing studs is hard, but when you blast the backups and tell them your going to start JV players over them, in my opinion, you're a dumbass. Look up Schofield's Definition of Discipline. When the general feeling from a handful of starters, available and injured, is "our coaches don't know what they are doing" then there is a problem. From my personal perspective there are issues with their staff...one being their "trainer" who is clueless, coaching staff that gets caught up in the game and draws penalties, coaching that doesn't know how to properly execute their next man up.

Yes it is easy to say things from the sideline, but I am no idiot. I've played under the arguably best coach in NC history in Tom Brown, I played college football at The Citadel, coached the flag league there, founded a no pads tackle league in Charlotte that lasted 5 years, I've coached rec league 5 years in Maiden and 2 years in SC. I'm not a genius, but I can clearly see where they've gotten it wrong and I didn't have to sit back with a cigar and ponder on it.

I would like a chance to meet all you fellas tonight if possible. Maybe before or at halftime or after. Just let me know.
GrizzlyDevil, I'll carry my phone. Send me a text when you get ready and I'll come over to the Maiden side. For some unexplained reason you'll be able to spot me... A long time ago, my Father said "I know you're alright, but you 're a very sneaky looking somebody, and you're ugly, too". I didn't say nothing but I looked at him and thought "Yeah, well, You won't be winning no beauty contest, either". So, if you'll just send me a text I'll come over. If you don't send one I'll know you got side-tracked.

About Goob, I haven't heard anything from him. Hope he made it.
