Clinton vs South Granville RD 2

First play of the 3rd Williams to Wright for 67 yards Touchdown!!!!! Clinton 28 South Granville 7.....they say we uncomfortable passing lol

Page score from 3 yards out touchdown.......Clinton 38 South Granville 7 9:42 left in 4th

Great response by the team tonight after a rough start last week.....they have played lights out tonight....proud of this team

Major tip of the cap to Clinton for playing a great four quarters; I knew it would be tough for South Granville; knew it would be possible for the Vikings to play their best game of the year (which we did not, with some missed tackles, dropped passes, missed blocks, and penalties) and still come up on the short end, if the Dark Horses also were focused and played to their capabilities. I suppose the first half of the North Lenoir game in the 1st Rd. got Clinton's attention and had their whole week devoted to cutting out the defensive lapses that plagued them a week earlier and let that game stay in doubt for a lot longer than the experts had figured. At halftime of this 2nd Rd game, I was still believing that the Vikings could keep it close, but it would have required a big defensive stand to start the half, and what happens on the first offensive play of the 3rd Quarter, after the Vikings appeared to have made defensive adjustments to key against the run? Hard play action fake, deep pass to a guy lined up in the backfield on a Go route, outjumps the SG defender who didn't take a full on bite on the play fake, but enough of a nibble to let the receiver get behind him, who then neither breaks up the pass nor makes the tackle so it goes from 21-7 and feeling like it's two big plays away from a close game to 28-7 in 15 seconds, and even with a lot of time left, feeling kind of demoralized. Proud of the SG defensive stand inside the 10 on Clinton next series to hold them to a FG, but I thought the biggest story of the game was Clinton's defense keeping the Viking offense in check...Only defending state champ Rocky Mount, in a game played in August, before some of the early season kinks were worked out, held the Vikings to less rushing yards and less total yards...so often against this type of defense, that stacks the box with more than you can block to key on the run makes going to more passing a quick remedy, but the Dark Horse DBs did a great job with coverage; deflecting a couple of passes, and intercepting one and taking it to the house in 4th Quarter...From message board chatter, I knew about Ryheem Skinner, but had no idea that both Tyion Wright and Kris Williams would also be such playmakers, on both sides of the ball, I haven't seen Northside but they have their work cut out from them if the Dark Horses can keep playing at the same level they were at last Friday

I thought I heard the white hat say something about language...not sure if it was an issue of sideline being warned earlier and then somebody saying something that was charged to the coach....I know there was an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty two or three plays before the long interception return that I never heard a specific explanation for (who/why), then there was another one after the kickoff when the coach was ejected, I was thinking they were related to each other but do not know all of the details, other than the second one being something about inappropriate language from the sideline

tarheelg is the Justin Bullock mentioned in your Clinton-SG football blog the same pitcher who threw the ball so well against the Holmes Aces this past spring in the Eastern Finals in baseball?

No, the one that plays only baseball is a senior.....the one that plays football and baseball (JV last year) is a sophomore

Thanks. I thought that might be unusual for someone that good in baseball to be risking injury in football.

Yes, believe me, the one who specializes in baseball absolutely has the size and athletic talent to play football and basketball but why bother risking it? He actually missed some time (2 or 3 starts on the hill) from baseball during his freshman year (when he was already the ace of the pitching staff and the 4 hole hitter) due to injuries, not from baseball, but from a PE class

Not to high jack the thread but I talked to the Yankees scout at Game 1 in Edenton and he talked like he was the real deal

Yes, his performance in Game 1 of that series was not even in the top ten performances of high school career, 8 Ks and 2 BBs with 4H in 5 2/3 IP.....if you look at maxpreps, they have it all messed up on his baseball profile as if it is the same player, but one should be able to figure out that if the baseball guy has stats from three years posted, then he cannot be a sophomore
