Cleveland County

Not aware of that move either but the player that I originally referenced is not a receiver. I am hearing this other kid and family moved in November but he was still at Shelby at least as far as Christmas break. I heard from a couple of sources about the move into the KM district but I am taking a wait and see because of some of the family ties to Shelby football. I can see this kid possibly finishing the school year at Shelby and then enrolling at KM if his family chooses.

Speaking of hearing things ive heard for over 2 months the Hill kid at Km is wanting in at Shelby.
Heard anything bout that..

Although his dad is a Shelby High grad I doubt he or his family has been seriously considered going to Shelby or he would have been there already. Families are running from Shelby High right now. There is a reason the enrollment keeps falling.

I am actually not trying to dump on them but from what I am hearing it is not good. Shelby is replacing a lot of the old guard and the final nail is going to be the retirement of those last remaining fixtures. Shelby was once a high achieving school athletically and academically. There is a lot going on there right now.

Funny thing is Km having to use a retired principl from Shelby to get there school back in order....🤣🤣🤣
If that makes you feel good. Believe it. What I do know is that Shelby ranks 5th in Cleveland County high school rankings barely above North Shelby and Turning Point Academy which are two alternative schools I believe 😂

If that makes u feel good, shelby 1st of all adm numbers been same last 6 years at 790.. so dont see familys leaving like crazy.
2nd. Shelby had total 162 scholar athletes across the board last year..
Not sure what numbers you refering too.

I’m not going to get into y’all’s family feud 😂 but that conference that Shelby’s has been in the last 4 years seems to have hurt the program as a whole… just my outside observation

Here is what I've heard about Shelby. No inside knowledge, just conversations. It's a case of the haves and the have nots. If you are a scholar taking advance classes, you are basically getting a private school education because of the small class sizes. Morehead scholars being a prime example. For some of the kids its just about doing the minimum to stay eligible for sports then after graduation they are right back on the sidelines already talking about the glory days. I feel like we do a disservice to kids by having such low standards to stay eligible. Kids will do what's expected so what if the minimum for athletics was the same minimum to get into a community college. Would be better for everyone.

I’ve pretty much heard much of the same thing and this is coming from the Shelby High supporters. I didn’t ask, dig, or seek that info. I was surprised by some of it and not surprised by other aspects of it. I pretty much just reference some of the football stuff mainly. Almost all programs have to deal with stuff behind the scenes at some point. It just seems strange to hear Shelby getting hit with any type of negativity on the academic side of this and football side of this at the same time.

What you refer to above has been this way for 30 to 40 years and not just at Shelby.
When i came out in 83 u had scholar kids that get alot of attention and u had alot that just gets by in classes.
Is that a school problem or a at home problem. ???
Alot of parents now days expect great Athletes out of the kids but fail to push kids in class thinking they dont have to do good in class, long as they are a star player.
And again this problem is at every school.. and starts at home.

I just want to know. IS SHELBY GOING TO ASK TO PLAY UP?

Is Crest playing up this year? Is Burns or KM playing up? No they are not playing up. I would not care if Shelby moved up as 4A looked a lot easier than 3A.

Would love a breakdown per sport of the Scholar Athletes

We all put each other down on here, but realistically a player could not go wrong transferring to any of the four schools in Cleveland County. All four have great traditions and great programs. Shelby has the winningest program in North Carolina and numerous state championships. The last two years they have been a game away from playing in the state championship game. Crest has numerous state championships, Burns has a state championship, and Kings Mountain has come very close. All great programs. Not many counties can say that.

All four County teams will have a shot to win a conference title next year with the split conferences..

I haven’t heard about a Shelby WR coming to KM but I did hear that one of them and his family were very disgruntled. Ive heard some chatter supposedly from the Shelby side about parents/players being unhappy with lack of offers coming in. The story goes that parents are asking how are Crest and KM kids getting offered or signing while Shelby kids aren’t receiving much at this time. It seems that Coach Wilbon has his hands full. Today’s parents are a handful to deal with. I don’t think he last much longer at Shelby. I give him another year at the most. Waiting to see how all that shakes out.

Transfer portal is part of the reason. It's harder for high school kids now, when most schools could get an already developed player in the portal.
