I gotta say, there is a LOT of truth in this particular statement.....

We will all have a dip in, talking trash about each others team, probably drooling a bit, and sweating, yelling at refs, daring some snot nose with a mullet of saying anything out of the way....

Basic family reunion of a family tree with just a trunk type of evening... then we will all pile up in our trucks, roll into a field somewhere, light something on fire...

Not me, I aint driving my King Ranch into a field,I dont like skeeters, etc, Ill be in the burger king drive through ordering the double whopper with cheese at this point, or sitting in the air conditioner with my PC and Spit Cup

Someone shared a link to some podcast on facespace earlier and I was listening to them interviewing Coach Strait...

They started asking about a big 7 on 7 they'd like to see in this county, and he was like "I HATE 7 on 7's and said if we were to do one and win it and they gave a trophy it would be in the bad of a pickup truck and then in a dump somewhere... HA HA HA.... I like this dude already ha ha ha ha..... Well cept for week one, I hope we kick his teams teeth in.. .but Ill be a fan afterwards .... ha....

Shelby High School has been the greatest beneficiary of the ALWS economic impact. The school has received over a million dollars in renovations from ALWS. Baseball Stadium, tennis courts, soccer practice field. Not positive, but maybe upgraded lighting for the football field, field mower, digital sign in front of school. Expanded paved parking. Baseball field house upgrades.
The above listed benefits far exceed the hundreds of dollars Shelby lost on gate receipts to a scrimmage every 4 years.

Well they moved soccer field, in a deal to take old one for parking lot..
So it was a trade...
As for tennis the gave the new lights, which Crest got part of lights too...
Lets be real only reason cause they upgraded baseball lights..
Also there was a deal that they build a new fieldhouse that never happened...
So im not sure bout all these millons the school actual got beside the base ball Stadium..which is shared control by both

Like local police officers providing security, local radio announcer calling the games, Post 82 selling concessions, Crest graduate Tracy Stilwell and her company Victorian Rose Studio (official photographer of ALWS), locally owned restaurants, local schools Shelby, Crest, Shelby Shopper, What’s Up Shopper, local billboard owners, thousands of local folks who enjoy the 7th Inning Stretch Festival and (Free) Concert with national artists.

I am sure there are a lot more LOCAL people who benefit financially but this should help expand your narrow view of The American legion world series.

How are you to dense to understand the value of those benefits listed?

I also belive the county would better benifit from ithe they built new fair ground with sports complex....im not opposed to grtting any benifits just wish county - city would build a complex somewhere

Was down in Neanderthal land today and saw a guy from Virginia Beach. He said Shelby is in the sticks yall don't even have Uber. I'm from Lenoir and we don't have it either. Maybe the Legion World Series will bring about better transit services.😁

They use shuttle buses to get everybody around. Somebody said we do have one Uber driver working the area

The funny thing is I love legion baseball but I'm also willing to ask questions and listen to business owners and tax payers on their thoughts about such an events.

By the way, a great Area IV final as Cleveland County takes on Cherryville. Both teams have qualified for the state tourney so this is really for seeding purposes and some bragging rights. CC took both regular season games but CVille took game 1 of the best of 3. Back in CVille tonight for Game 2. Funny thing is, it may be better not to win because Fuquay Varina was upset in their area final so the winner gets them and that is a monster match up for the first round. As long as the World Series is in Shelby, I would love for Post 82 to play in it.

I like to gamble too but that doesn't mean there are not questions about the 2 Kings Casino.

Not sure about the sales revenue reporting side but could the actual ticket numbers be including sponsorship sales like minor and major league baseball? I know a company I do part time work for has season tickets for the honey hunters and knights (at least 75 each). Maybe sponsors bought tickets to give away, so that would show actual sales numbers not actual attendance.

2 Kings all ready got rid of Skyboat. Which was the whole problem. They vote on the new chief in 9 days and then the newly elected officials will decide on which new managing partners to use. They then have to choose which bank they are going to use because at least 4 have agreed to finance the entire resort project.

My question is this
Why does ALWS ask the County and the tax payers for $450,000-$500,000
The ALWS should be self sufficient at this time I would think if they are making what people say they make
X champ knows more than me that’s why I am asking.
Seems to me the numbers In Smash’s article above dont add up

Probably because everyone ask for money honestly. Large scale, same concept, the panthers stadium and the hornets coliseum make profit but still ask for local money. Most businesses that come get tax breaks or reduced utilities rates. It maybe simply, why not ask for what you already know will be some expenses? The worse they could do is say no and you pay for it out of your account, or best case, you get what you asked for or something towards what you asked for. About any major event has some kind of government assistance.

Good Lord, your the King of innuendos. Grow a set and say what you think? Ticket sales are calculated like NBA and other professional teams. If a sponsor buys 500 tickets for employees to enjoy, those tickets are counted in sales whether they actually attend the game or not. Regarding 2 Kings casino, I have no clue what issues you could be hinting at. As I’m sure you don’t either.

Quid pro quo. Since the series brings in lots of economic impact to the county, they ask the County Commissioners to help offset some of the costs. This has occurred each year since the beginning of the series in Shelby. North Carolina government has also supported the series with grants/financial support for the recognition and benefits the series has brought to NC. ESPN national telecast of games each year. That’s a lot of national recognition for Cleveland County as a travel destination.​

You keep thinking whatever you like. I love Cleveland County. There is not a bigger supporter of our young people. You have not seen me post any names on here about some of the things I have researched about in my home county and I won't. This is certainly not the platform for that. These are not my only questions I have about the county. There are neighborhoods in West Shelby in desperate need of sidewalks so those families that need to walk to store, church etc can do so safely. Yet it's never addressed. We all know why, but these things are not talked about at the Legrand Center. I have many other issues I could talk about that I think would make CC a better place to be but I am going to turn my attention back to the fun of celebrating our local youth and watching all of us knuckleheads acting like a bunch of buffoons. I wish you nothing but the best and I encourage you to support the things you believe in with such passion.
