Gaffney getting embarrassed and totally dominated by NW last night won’t help the Crust Ponies in the power ratings. Gaffney disappointed last night. I expected a better showing. What’s happened to the Northwestern fan base? Small crowd traveled to Gaffney to witness the beat down.
West Charlotte after beating MC and Dudley seem to be the best of 3A West right now, not looking as good for KM/ Crest after being ranked #1 in 3A. The 3A West going to be a dogfight come playoffs.

Only thing I can say is Dudley don’t play anybody! Their RPI should not be better than crest or KM. WC in that split conference so I really don’t see them being anything better than a #7 seed. Hickory is a team we should probably be talking about. Hearing big things about them. 👀
First off WC didn’t beat Dudley. If your going to throw shade get it all together.

KM would have the hardest game against WC right now, because of their passing game right now and WC is very strong against the run but I would still take KM because WC can not have a sustained offensive drive and score points. KM is going to play smart,even if it seems conservative as long as they win.
Crest verses WC today, being conservative, I say Crest by 28. The Crest wr group would have a field day against the WC secondary in their primary defense. They switch it up and drop the linebackers to help, the Crest stable of running backs would go to work then. I don't think WC can score 2 offensive tds against Crest.
WC is still 1 or 2 years out competing for a state but will be in 5 or 6A next alignment. Get someone like Matt Beam in there to run the offense ,they competing immediately. They have the speed and the size and Charlotte's up for grabs now. I look for more top players to make it their school of choice as they leave the middle schools. It's a good thing it's an IB school because the area is about to price out the community in the next few years.
I have seen several top contenders in 3a west LIVE between games and jamboree (KM,Crest,ACR,SP,WC,EL,HKY),with trips to see Dudley, Robinson and maybe West Henderson coming up soon. Sometimes it just come down to match up with strengths and weaknesses and what side of the bed kids woke up that morning.

Went and watched hickory last night (also seen crest 3 times this year) while hickory has a nice team they don’t have a crest beatable team IMO … that Crest offense is a different animal
Agreed. Someone on another post said that Cleveland County gasped when the HKY and east lincoln score was known. My opinion HKY goes 0-4 against Cleveland County.

WC will be battled tested as they proved that last year vs KM. Dudley can only play those on the schedule. Right now, I d say Dudley is the team to beat in the 3A West. Dudley appears to be the most complete team in the west. Crest lacks defense and doubtful KM defense could carry them against Dudley.
WC is one hell of a wildcard. I wouldn’t bet against them.
Who ever comes out of the west will be battle tested.
EL’s wins have come against opponents with a combined 1-11 record on the season. Those guys are not last’s years team. Once Hickory realized that EL wasn’t last year’s group the game was over.

You must haven't seen both in person.lol. If so, you would see that WC is a run stopping team and wide receivers are constantly behind the DBs. Crest scores 40+. WC scores no more than 2 offensive tds(on broken plays). Of course this all opinion but have seen WC twice. They are 2 years away.
I have not seen WC play, but ill still take 28 win or lose.
Crest defense is far from great. The DB's are very good, but the front seven needs work.
I hope to check out WC between now and game 10
When you do, you will see what I mean, seriously. Minus a broken play, you may get 150 yards of total offense from them. Opposing teams need to kick it out of bounds and dare their offense to get first downs.
I expect Crest defense getting some people back upfront and learning more of the DC assignment football, that it will improve a lot by playoffs.
Crest would be lucky to beat WC, period. That’s a very fast and athletic team, and all they are doing is just winning. They’re 4-0 for a reason. Crest wouldn’t even beat Monroe by 28, a team WC has beaten. Let’s not get carried away here. I see both as contenders in 3A, but do not underestimate WC in any regard. I would favor Crest, but it would be a battle for sure.

Its about matchups. Monroe has a better overall defense than WC with a significantly better backend defense. Both have really good front and middle groups but the dbs is the difference.
WC is fast and aggressive on the front end & will commit to stopping the run but they have no pass defense. If Monroe or MC(school that size,you would think they had 1 passer) either had a QB that could pass, they beat them. The wrs are constantly beating the dbs by 5 -10 yards(nowhere close to them) and for an actual passing team like Crest, that's a recipe for disaster. Any team that has any kind of passing game has a chance at beating WC this year if they have a qb that does not have to stand in the pocket every play.
As stated before, they have no offense, waiting on someone from WC to get me some stats but minus a busted play or a trick play like they did against MC on the first score, the offense is well under 200 yards a game, closer to 150. In the playoffs, WC has to score other than defensive and special teams tds when they get past the 2nd round.
Just my views from seeing live, BUT any given Friday.
You just listed the recipe of why I think WC would give Crest all they wanted, fast and aggressive front 7, a running game. Though it was a scrimmage, Monroe had Tater running around in the pocket, looking like Sonic the Hedgehog, and he became a little inaccurate. Crest had difficulties with Monroe’s front 7. WC would pose that same threat, but even more so.
You mentioned WC’s inability to pass. Well, Crest’s D hasn’t shown anything against the run, which obviously plays into WC’s strength, running the football.
Anyone who watched the Shelby vs Crest game, if they all are honest with themselves, must admit, it appeared in the first half only, that Shelby was exposing Crest, hence Rulz saying after the game that Shelby was well coached that game. Crest flexed its muscle, and “out athleted”, out classed the Lions in the second half. Crest’s offense is a masterpiece, an animal, but it’s defense is a weakness, period, and that will show against the better teams in 3A.

Shelby hasn’t pressured an opposing team’s passer in two seasons. Smh. I would love to know the number of sacks we have so far this season.
They have NO run game. When you average less than 200 yards a game and that includes one 70 plus yard play a game, thats not much offense. That is why I say they pose no threat to the Crest defense even if they played today. They have 3 run plays, quick pitch left, quick pitch right and occasional counter. The rbs do a great job of falling forward to gain 3 yards when they are not tackeld in the backfield. Crazy to believe, but the Crest Dline would handle their oline. They did have one of the dline go both ways against MC and he actually put his hands on people and blocked. Monroe front 7 is slightly better then WC front 7, basically equal.
West Charlotte beat Monroe by two touchdowns.🤷🏾♂️😀 They’re obviously doing something right. Plus, they will be more battle tested than Crest, in my opinion, due to Crest’s weaker conference. The whole CC needs to humble themselves some. There’s plenty of room to get better.
Crest’s D is suspect! Even if they get some guys back, conditioning will be an issue for those returning players.
KM’s offense is average.
Burns lost too many great athletes.
Shelby was weakened by the transfer portal, and is very young in key spots.
17.5 so far with #51 leading the way so far at 4.5 next is #77 with 2
Just went back and looked we are averaging 10 TFL a game though which is better than what I thought (50 total through 5)
That’s actually pretty good. It just seems as if the pass rush in nonexistent at times, in my opinion.
That game was much closer than the score indicates. Monroe led WC at the half and was up 8 at the beginning of the 4th qtr. Monroe actually appeared to be the better team overall and WC could not stop RedHawk’s run game especially when the qb ran with it. WC is scrappy and generated plays when needed. WC tacked on two very late 4th qtr td’s that didn’t reflect the closeness of the game. If Monroe would have stuck to their run game instead of trying to pass the RedHawks would have probably won the game going away. WC is one of those teams that the longer you allow them to hang around in the game the more dangerous they become.
Crest wouldn’t beat either team by 28, in my opinion. I’d bet that against either.

I am just speaking to you using scores to make your point. Scores can be misleading when making comparisons or projecting games. It’s really all about matchups. Also many teams are still developing. How teams play in the first three weeks of the season has minimal bearing on how teams will look against each other in November.
Haven’t seen the complete rosters, but Crest’s Javarius Green, and Shelby’s Izay Bridges made the NC Shrine Bowl team as receivers. Congrats to those young men.
Curtis Simpson made the team also.
Great! County is well represented. Shelby’s football page congratulated Bridges. I only saw the receivers. Someone post a link to the entire rosters. I couldn’t find any.
Congrats to them all. Making it as a WR this year in NC is a major accomplishment.
Ashbrook had not allowed a player to rush in for over 100 yards this season.
