the surprise there is that Randleman will probably be 2A instead of projected 2AA.....certainly will strengthen the west bracket with Reidsville, Mt. Heritage and East Rutherford.............

Hmmm... Gonna be interesting to see how this shakes up the playoff brackets. And yes, Tville could and probably should go back to 1A soon. For their sake I wish West Davidson would lose enough to do the same, but I doubt it.

Thomasville 734 to 700 to 680 to 659. I detect a pattern.
East Davidson went from 973 to 871. This in a town where the population is increasing. So where are these kids going?

Reidsville below 800 for first time ever last year ... will be interesting to see this year's count.

Maybe older people with older kids,or no kids?
That’s probably part of it. I think another factor is that we lost most of a generation in Thomasville. A larger percentage of folks now in their forties and early fifties left town. That is the age group who would have high school aged kids now. Part of the efforts the community is making now is to try and reverse that trend.
Regardless, the end result is that Thomasville High School has a real challenge competing with schools with 200-500 more students. Add in the demographic factor and playing 2-A is tough.
That makes it even more impressive to finish this regular season 8-3, with low twenties on both jv and varsity.

I was told by a school official there were close to 400 students of varying ages primary to high school that live inside the Thomasville school district that attend other schools, church schools, home school, privates, charters and online academies.

Based on the CCC adm numbers and the reference to Trinity being under 700 kids. What are the chances that at the next realignment that Tville and Trinity go to 1a? Eastern Randolph is also at 648. If so, what other local schools could they be paired with to make up a 1a conference?

As OC has mentioned a couple of times on the boards, you would be amazed how the numbers would look if the kids living in the City limits that go to East Davidson (because of legislation years ago) were in the Thomasville school district.

High Point private schools? Other area private schools? And East and Ledford get some kids they shouldn't.

But hey, who am I to talk? ND made a lot happen with certain kids whose parents would rather send their kids than Lexington or Parkland.

Thomasville has a real coach now and I believe you'll see the number go back up percentage wise to the student body. We may never see the Allen Brown era again where as many kids played for Tville as they did for North Davidson (almost) but you will see a big difference. Especially if and when you go back to 1A.

Two big neighborhoods within a mile of the high school that go to ED and LHS on Albertson road and Old Thomasville Road could boost THS numbers big. The fancy neighborhood within several hundred feet of the primary school goes to East if I am not misinformed. Those kids could walk to school within a minute right onto school property. (IMO) If Thomasville Police and Fire serve the neigborhood then they should go to TCS schools.

If and when thomasville goes 1A again I'm just about %100 certain they will be back in the YVC,as far as the others I have no clue,

You are correct about the neighborhood directly beside Thomasville Primary.

Mostly the High Point private schools. There are at least four. The new charter in Lexington only has about three Thomasville kids so far. Mostly, it’s kids getting a release to go to East, Ledford or their feeder schools. Though, in fairness, there are about the same number from county schools going the other way. That probably surprises some people.

Here’s an interesting stat. There are a little less than 19,000 kids in the Davidson County School System. (Not including the two city systems)

There are approximately 1900 home schooled students in Davidson County. Throw in the 300+ kids that just started going to the new charter school (which is only planned to go k-8 at present) and the 300+ kids we lose to out of county charter schools (mostly Uwharrie Charter, NC Leadership Academy and Gray Stone Day), that would explain where some of the enrollment is going.

Thomasville is by far the smallest school in the conference

I didn’t realize that THS was that much smaller. I know it was a monetary thing, (and I hope it is indeeed paying off at the gate), but the NCHSAA had placed Thomasville in a conference with much smaller schools.

And i have zero knowledge of the lay of the land in the YVC, other than knowing about South Davidson being the absolute suck. Travel is a challenge in that league, I’m sure. Do fans travel well?

Would you rather be in 2a or 1a? Honestly just curious.

Im not sure how many go to Westchester, HPCA or HP Wesleyan, but they’re right down the road as well.

I’m not sure about those schools. I hear that there are some large pockets of certain Ledford neighborhoods that go to one of those.

More Thomasville kids go to those than any other private schools. Throw in The Point in High Point. The charter in Lexington isn’t a factor yet.

Personally, I’d rather be 2A. But absolutely don’t want to be in the conference that was originally proposed for us in the last realignment.
The conference now is perfect for the gate and the rivalry. We just can’t compete with numbers, so lack of depth typically costs us a game or two. Coach Robertson worked magic this year with numbers in the low twenties. But that’s not sustainable.

Just noticed that Thomasville’s current ADMs are only 12 more than the largest 1A school last realignment. I know changes in other schools will have an effect. But we’re likely to be one of the very smallest 2A schools or one of the largest 1A. If we had our current numbers during the year of the last realignment, we’d be the third smallest.

Someone mentioned Davidson County at less than 19,000. Four or five years ago, they were at 23,000. Be interesting to see an accurate breakdown of public, private, charter, home schools to better know what the actual trends are.

OC, you are absolutely right, enrollment in the Davidson County School District is declining. North was even slightly declining prior to the opening of Oak Grove. I think Ledford was the only one that was growing. (Thanks to the city of High Point annexation)

I’m an “old timer” coach but if I remember correctly back years ago, when realignment was considered, the schools are given a chance to put their “two cents” into the discussion about which conferences they wanted to be in. At one time, a school could opt to play in a higher classification than their ADM numbers showed but they could not go to a lower classification.
