What I don’t understand the NCHSAA knows how many schools play each sport. It’s not hard to divide each sport up to make classes for each sport. There is over 400 schools that play football or every sport. They need not be lazy and take time to breakdown all the sports to make the correct classes for each sport

I was thinking below 550. About 15 football schools between 500-550. 32 teams make the playoffs. That is over half of the teams making the playoffs which will include some very unimpressive W-L totals.

In this day and age of technology, why can't it be done yearly? After the 1st grading quarter ends use those attendance numbers and team records to start forming brackets for each class. Do not make public the brackets until the end of the regular season just fine tune and solidify each week. Worry about seeding after the brackets have been filled. The number of classes may vary from year to year based on number of schools that qualify for playoffs based on win-loss records. Fill each bracket from the smallest populations up. Have a 5 win minimum to qualify. New schools are born every year. This would help schools who lose numbers when a new school opens in their area. They wouldn't have to wait till the next realignment if they lost a significant number of students. It would also eliminate a 2-8 vs 10-0 match up. Split conferences would only come into play when it came time to seed the teams. If you are a 3a in a conference with 5 4a schools you are most likely going to schedule 3a or smaller schools for non-conference so the 5 win minimum could easily be met.

The brackets and number of classes could actually be rough drafted before the season starts using the previous years numbers and adjusted as the season progresses and the numbers come in from the end of the 1st quarter.

All non football playing schools should go into one classification. There are right at sixty of them and there will be more each year coming on board due to the charter school craziness. They will be in conferences with regular schools but when the playoffs start they will go with that classification.
