Any word on how the new coach at Bunker Hill will be? Have they interviewed? Haven't seen the job listed, but I know Conner resigned.

As you may have seen in the Hickory Daily Record the new coach is David Haynie. He was a two year assistant at Bunker Hill, former coach of N Wilkes and McDowell Highs. He also was head coach at a couple schools in Virginia. Sorry but I cant link the article for some reason on my Mac.

Seems like a decent hire to me. I wish they would have went out and picked out a coach who is not as familiar with the area. Bunker Hill needs a change in atmosphere and I'm not sure this is the right way to do it.

Sadly this was a done deal. Only advertised for a week and only on Catawba County Schools website. Only interviewed a handful of people. Heard one of alumni applied and was not even given an interview. If it is who I was told he could have been exactly what was needed. Don't expect anything different with this hire. Heard he ran same offense at McDowell. Don't see BH getting the kids out to play like they need to.

For quite a while they have been handicapped in the area of teaching positions. That may have played into the decision making process.

Non-athletic minded principal doesn't understand the need to move people that are not goof coaches to elementary and middle schools to create positions. Have PE now with Conner gone, but more likely to hire another baseball coach. Not very focused on creating a winning environment for football which is the sport that creates the revenue for the whole athletic program. If the community wants to get the program in a position to be able to compete, then it needs to get a new principal first.

You an insider truthhurts247? What makes you think they will fill the PE slot with a baseball coach?

The principle there right now has little to no interest in improving the athletics at Bunker Hill. The football team and other sports were on the rise until the current principle came in. Wish he would open his mind and realize athletics are a big part of a school and its revenue. The community will not support until there is support from inside the school.

Not an insider but friends and family in that area. Truth is you can't have a principal caught up in needing to be called DR. and not putting an emphasis on the one program that funds 90% of the athletic program and also not looking at people who could actually turn the program around. Would be interested to know who the other 3 people they actually interviewed were? It is my understanding that people were not happy with the offense and the defense was atrocious so the Principal and AD solve that problem by hiring the DC who ran the same offense as Conner at other schools he coached . None of it makes sense. If you do not have an athletic minded principal you whole athletic program suffers, especially football.
