Boys games; charter schools

ok...what programs do they offer that would draw kids to their school???

G.A. fixed this problem. Like alot of others States. N.C. needs to follow along.
Each student should count as two if they play in the public school playoffs.

If our boys happen to get to tues and Lincoln charter does too .. you better bring in extra seats cause we will bring everyone from cherokee lol
Can already tell you they do NOT have enough seating. All seats are on one side of court

Probably one of the most technology advanced schools in the system. Notice who they get grant money from. I am not defending anything athletically at the school, Until you posted something a few weeks ago I did not realize their lack of spring sports. WSFCS have 20 plus schools on the low performing list, also have 4A Glenn HS on that list. Nothing to be proud of but hopefully the powers to be improvement programs will get things headed in the right direction.

Good luck tonight.

Obtw, you know my discussion is only as a poster, not a moderator.

If siblings get first priority then that tells you that they can certainly pick and choose who gets accepted.

There are 1700 kids on the wait list to get into Mountain Island Charter. I guess they aren't good at any sports per your logic. You might want to ask yourself why so many parents/kids want out of the public school system.

I thought charter schools were public schools!! ( according to some)

The state would let charters play if they didn't have any seat. Just look at what they already let them do!

Is there not a NCHSAA rule that requires a minimum amount of seating. I know there is in football.
Most of the Private/Charter schools doesn't have their own gym. Wonder if that Gates feller could send a little extra funds to help with gym construction?

they do have a balcony at Linc charter...not sure of seating #'s ...better get there early

As every one from traditional schools have argued, there is little being done. These "prep" "charter" or whatever they are, are going keep arguing their right to be in 1A and how they have a fair and legal process. As seen we (traditional) can argue all things disproving this claim, it could be from Bishop's ridiculous streak of consecutive state championships or W-S prep's continued dominance in the sport both girls and boys. We continually argue that they seemingly rebuild overnight, but a backer of these "schools" will give me a thousands of examples of how that is wrong and they have down years as well. Well OK I would shut my mouth there, but we (traditional) are not built to have any kind of success like that. Yeah we have our runs but when it comes to basketball some of our best fall short. I would like to see how many times a traditional school made their runs only to be crushed or heartbroken by a non-traditional. Yeah, we should suck it up and stop complaining and just get better. Maybe you all (non-traditional) have made us improve our skills and ability but what good is it when it seems you get an answer to any weakness w/i a year or season.The only way I see anything being changed is when these (non-traditional) start taking our (traditional) football state championships away. Its happening, w/i a 5 year span I've seen laughing stock teams turn into real contenders. Each year more and more of these schools are making deeper playoff runs, and heck most of them do not have the facilities to hold a football game. I see this as the only way to show how they are bad for our class, but it is going to take a lot to move them on out of this "loop-hole" grasp they have on 1A.

even winning the football titles will not change things...until the WSFCS change their open enrollment period then it is what it is...here's one to keep an eye on ; Prep girls roster lists 9 players...7 are seniors and they do not have a JV program from which to draw or build from...that leaves 2 players for next year...i guess they'll field a team? good luck to remaining teams

Whose parents work and live in cherokee. Get over it. Every team has kids move in from out of town. As long as they moved and live in Cherokee I don't see a problem. We don't just take half a football team from one school and then win state with them.

Who did that?

G.A. does 1.5.

I think 1.5 is fair. 2 is alittle extreme but just considering their draw radius I believe a 1.5 multiplier is fair. Also just in defense of LC I can say that a kid (not wanting to say his name) wanted to goto LC and he didn't get in for one reason or another, he is 7' tall and would have been a sure fire state championship with him.

The NCHSAA's board of directors, at its spring meeting in May 2015, approved a change in the regional basketball format. The fourth round (regional semifinals) will be played at the home of the higher seed rather than at a neutral site. (If there is an expressed concern relative to seating capacity, the NCHSAA will assist in determining if the fourth-round game must be moved to a neutral high school gym.) The regional finals will remain at neutral sites.
Not sure who has to complain??

Stanley county is open enrollment, Pitt county going to open enrollment next year. I am sure there are others.

If WSFCS were all 3A and above there would be no discussion of them.

Facilities:NCHSAA rule 2.3.3(d)
NCHSAA Hosting of Playoffs and Championships: In order to host NCHSAA
playoffs in any sport, member schools’ facilities must. (Revised)

(1) Have measures in place that ensure the safety and protection of the well-being of
all participants and spectators;
(2) Maintain seating for participants and spectators, with one-third (1/3) of the
available seating reserved for the visiting team’s spectators. These specifications
are recommended for regular season games in all sports, with the exception of
football, which provides its own minimum seating regulations.;

(3) Comply with requirements mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act
(ADA);
(4) Have restroom facilities available for both spectators and participants;
(5) Provide areas for teams and game officials to dress for competition;

I had forgot that change, I like that. Is the finals in WS and Fayetteville?

Stanly County is not open enrollment they just went to open enrollment for a 1 week period for some reason. I have my suspicions why but that is a different story for a different day.

Let's clarify a few things as there is some misinformation or maybe lack of complete information from both sides. First, charter schools do indeed have a lottery...to an extent. If a grade level is full, then there is a lottery for that grade level. If a grade level is not full, then there is no lottery. Anyone can come. What often has happened is that some kids will leave the charter in 10th or 11th grade or 12th, and there is not a huge wait list at those grades, so if there is an upperclassman athlete who wants to come in, there is often not a lottery because those grades have openings. As far as WS Prep, they are not a charter. They are a regular Forsyth County Public School no different than RJ Reynolds except smaller. Now they are a magnet just like Parkland and some others. You can make the argument that they shouldn't be open or be a magnet because their scores are the lowest in the county, and I thought they got an F not a D but I could be wrong so I won't swear to that. But that is an issue to take up with Forsyth County. What will happen is that traditional public schools will soon be the minority in 1A with even less power and influence than now if that is possible. So live with it or vote for some different folks to the General Assembly who care about public education and not "for profit" public schools. The NCHSAA is not going to do anything to upset the legislators. You'll need to vote in new ones. It is not hard to figure out who is on what side just by reading about your elected officials.

wasn't ...radio called the game from up stairs...
The upstairs is always open to fans at Lincoln Charter. The problem last year was Mt. Airy didn't bring any fans to the game except for parents. Lincoln Charter has no seating problem and is one of the nicer gyms in the area. Its only one side but plenty of room floor level and balcony. Now Queens Grant could be an issue. I think they play at Carolina Courts but not sure. Mt. Island has wonderful facilities so do not know what people are talking about when talking about no room.

Western Regional finals will be split between Greensboro(UNCG) and Winston salem(Joel Coliseum).
Class per site to be determined Wed. morning.

Lincoln Charter gym will not hold the Cherokee fans. They had the most fans at the Regionals last year for the girls. I'm sure the boys may draw a little bit better.

Cherokee & Avery carry huge fan bases wherever they go. I can tell you multiple instances in multiple away games this year that Avery had a bigger fan base than the home team.

No I didn't I was actually had heard he was enrolling before another poster told me he was not accepted for some reason. I never said he was not interested. Heck he is in the area still lol

We've always travelled well. It would be interesting if Avery got to host WSP in the 4th round next Tuesday. Everyone in the whole county would come to that game.
You will not have to worry about the prep crowd they are virtually non existent
