2020 title contenders

Most of the usual suspects

As a Shelby follower, the Golden Lions have a lot holes to fill, particularly on the offense and special teams. As usual, I trust the coaches will find the right combination to make them a contender.

Like most Shelby fans on here have stated, it will most likely be a season where Shelby relies on the Defense early in the season until the offensive line and skill players start to gel.

Shelby, on offense, has to replace:
School's all-time leader passer in yards (7,781), completions (486) and passing TDs (83)
School's #2, #4 and #12 all-time leading receivers in yardage, School's #2, #3, and #7 all-time leading receivers in receptions, School's #3, #4, and #11 all-time leading receivers in TD receptions
Schools' #22 all-time leading rusher
4 of 5 starting OL
Kicker, Punter, KO Specialist, Holder, Long Snapper, Punt Returners, KO Returners

Great opportunity for the "next man up"
We may not win 6 games.

Your pessimism annoys me.
Some sarcasm in my quote. LA you know how talented that offense was and except for that bump in the road at KM we pretty much dominated everybody. I don’t know where all that talent will come from to replace what we had.

I remember we lost Antwan Wright, Jayden Borders, Dae Dae Brooks etc.
Better yet, look at the last 7 years. How did we replace our talent year after year?

This team will have a GREAT defense. We will be fine. The JV WR's may be even better than we had last year. They'll just need time to gel. That's why we practice!

I believe in the lions. Even if we have to run the ball this season first. We'll get there.

I hear our future QB is a Hollified. Sorry LA my transfer rumor fizzled out. I've fired my sources lol

We did replace them but they were staggered were we just lost one each year. Also we had a great QB each year and with Ruff leaving it changed everything.

Agreed with the Ruff transfer. Borders to. Those guys would have been Seniors this year.

Are you guys still playing Ac Reynolds
I would imagine so. We seem to have a relationship with them, we both like playing each other. Our former coach, Lance Ware, and their current coach were roommates in college. They kept this series going for as long as it has. I’m looking forward to the new schedule to see who will be filled into one of those bye weeks that we had last season.

Good question, though. Interesting, because from the point the series was renewed, I’m thinking it has expired or potentially has expired. Seem like it was a four year agreement dating back to 2015 or ‘16. If it was ‘16, this will be obviously the last year.

That's a good series to keep. Any teams of interest for you to play going forward?

I would love for us to play someone from Charlotte or a 2A power from South Carolina .As for as who’s actually being discussed, maybe goldenlions04 and his sources can provide some info on that.:D

Just messing with you, gl04.:)

LOL, I just saw this. I'm out of the rumor business at SHS. Back to being a former player and fan. I agree with your commitments. Dillon or possibly Vance would be my pick for out of conference scheduling.

Hell, even bringing back the Gaffney series I would love to see. I do like the Charlotte Catholic matchup in the Jamboree. I've become a little board with us blowing everyone out in 2a.

I would love to renew that Gaffney game, too.

I agree.

We will be just fine this year. What wins championships? Defense. We will have one of the best defenses in the state over all classifications. We may only win games 7-0, 14-0 or even 2-0 but a W is a W.

The possible "new to" QB could be electric from what I am hearing. Does the name Norris Hopper ring a bell? Heard he could be very Norris-esque. I've also heard the JV wide receivers are fantastic. Let's also not forget about our backfield stud. We will be just fine. 7 outta 8? Yeah...let's get it!

You did read my second post. The JV QB was really good and the wide receivers were really good. The O line? Just try and remember we lost almost everybody on that offense and everybody we lost were really really good. Now if Norris is back I will post a different opinion.

Not the JV QB...someone they are possibly moving to QB.

The JV quarterback was really good for a 9th grader and had a really good arm.If the offense has to go to mainly a run first the coaches will probably make the change.
I expect Shelby to lean more on the run, regardless. Omar Phillips has been a great back at every level of football. He can do it all, and at 5’10” 210lbs, he’s going to be a problem for opposing defenses. I have heard that he already has interest from an FCS school, despite splitting carries last year, and not getting enough of them, in my opinion. I expect a huge year from him. Adams, too. He has good size, too. They will be quite a tandem in the backfield.

12 read on two

Jack is moving to Fullback, Adams at one HB and Phillips at the other.... We will run primarily out of the Wishbone, but occasionally the straight T as well

Hamrick is being moved from Defensive end to QB to run the option... We will have to play both ways so this great defense , every one of them will be playing offense... the WR spot will just be a decoy and maybe get one pass thrown their way on 3rd and 42....

AHHHH the memories....

Oh and arsenio is teaching Jack the ins and outs of Fullback... we will be just fine...

All jokes aside we may take a lump or three during the season but by the end of the year, we will be in the mix and make a run at it :)

Some good ideas SL.

I just heard #14 from the JV's is moving to QB. Is this the Norris like guy everyone is referring to?

IDK how true this is but we'll see. If the 9th grade QB showed promise last year, why would we move anyone to QB? Initially I heard he was too young, and the BURNS QB was transferring in to finish his senior season. That looks like it want happen, so why not stick with him.

Defense will be stout. I think Shelby will be fine.

Sounds like a lot of rumors are going around...

Young guys to look out for (confirmed)
#22 M Adams - very good back, looks like a repeat of Dae Dae
#26 T Griffin - future D1 recruit at LB
#40 T Boyce - had a huge jv season, looks to become a major player this year.

3-4 athletes at WR, could play anywhere...

Yes, that’s who he’s talking about, but I’m not really optimistic about him becoming the qb from what I’ve heard, he may be better served at receiver/athlete. We are going to have to create a Shelby thread, though. We have hijacked this one enough.

It says 2020 contenders so that is Shelby, its not many other teams that can have this discussion

Adams has a lot of potential.
Just literally saw and spoke to one of the coaches at Walmart. He was gloating about Adams. He said that he has breakaway speed like Da Da Brooks, but in a bigger and stronger package. He said this will be the best backfield since 2015, which featured Brooks, Calvin Camp, and Truck Sims. Of course, as you’ve previously stated, there is concern about replacing the O line. Gash returns, but otherwise, it’s a complete rebuild. As far as quarterbacks, it’s the young quarterback and two athletes from other positions getting a look, a receiver and db. Props on that correct info, gl04. He said that Spring Ball will tell a lot. Shoutout to the Realville native, too. It was good to seem him in passing, too.

Damn, bro. I’m tipsy, hurt, numb, and shocked all at the same damn time. I tip my hat off to Fury, though. He was very prepared, and he had a brilliant game plan. He earned this moment. Wilder never could recover from what looked to be a ruptured eardrum, he never could recover his balance.

fury vs Joshua hopefully is next. Wilder is too one dimensional for fury. Wilder beats every other hw I think though

Totally agree, bro. I was obviously pulling for Wilder, so that was brutal to watch, but he was totally outclassed and exposed even more. I missed his fight with Ortiz, but if you think about it, he was getting beaten by Ortiz, and was bailed out by that one punch that he obviously ended the fight on.

Though, I was pulling for Wilder, I like Fury, and he’s going to be hard to beat. He’s highly skilled, moves greatly to be such a huge guy. I would like to see him fight Joshua next, too. Haven’t seen Joshua fight much, but he seems very likable, too. Who would you take in that fight?

Looks like the rematch between Wilder and Fury is inevitable, though. Fury is just too skilled for Wilder, though. Only chance Wilder would ever have, is connecting on that one punch that he depends on too much. Wilder’s ring entrance last night was epic, though.

I would take fury over joshua, joshua is more skilled than wilder and has power (not wilder power of course). Joshua chin is more suspect than wilders though.

I would still love to see wilder vs joshua, that's a 50-50 fight.

Wilders entrance was one of my favorites ever, we should be proud of wilder though, he had a good run.

Not many other big fights are on the horizon.
