Dagoober has preached for three years that NE would get over the hump. They chocked both title games. This year NE brings in the number 1 QB from Florida and number 1 WR from Texas and number 1 RB from VA. Dagoob has been saying this since last August.

East
Clinton
SWO
WRH

West
Shelby
Reidsville

Shelby will have one of the top defenses in the state. On offense though. A lot of Great Parts, but we'll have to find a quarterback.

I would add Northeastern to to the East side. Might not have won a title but for sure has been a contender last 2-3 years, as I expect them to again in 2020.

I usually only closely follow WNC teams. With that being said, I honestly don't see any contenders from this part of the state in 2A or 2AA this year. The best teams in 2A out of the mountains, I'd say would be Brevard and Mtn. Heritage. I'm thinking both will be just a little down from the previous year, but I could be wrong. I think they're 3rd round playoff teams at best. In 2AA, I would have to say Pisgah. They return a lot and should have one of the best defenses in a long time. If their offense can figure something out, then I think they're a regional final team. Prob best team since 2006.

If I was a betting man though, I'd put it all on Shelby and Reidsville against the rest of the field. They don't rebuild, they reload.

Reidsville (barring injuries or other circumstances) will probably be favorite to play in 2A title game and Shelby will probably be back again....but it's a long ways off and a lot can happen..................

Pretty much what I think.

My top 5 would be
1. Shelby-has a qb question, I'm sure they will figure it out though.
1. Reidsville
3. Northeastern
4.Hibriten
5. Burns

Hibriten returns almost all of their skilled position players as well as their defense.... IMO the biggest question marks will be the Offensive and Defensive Lines

Shelby should have a pretty good defense but LOTS of parts graduating on offense... May take a while to get it to gel and rolling but they will figure it out
before the end of the season....

Just from the West I'd say:

Shelby
Hibriten
Pisgah
Reidsville

Two very good teams from last year (Burns, North Lincoln) I think could be good, but both lost a ton.

I think Salisbury will be good, a top 5 team regardless of region. They are returning a lot. They were criticized for getting blown out by Shelby. Not to sound conceited, but in this run of state championships since 2013, Shelby has made all of its opponents in the state championship look like Salisbury, None of them were competitive games.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see a repeat of last year’s finals in 2A and 2AA.

Anson County, if they don’t fight anyone and get themselves banned again, will give Reidsville a challenge in 2A.

Hibriten definitely will be Shelby’s biggest threat in 2AA, in my opinion.

Come on, bro, you know good and well Northeastern is a major threat out East, likely the favorites going into this season.

Im assuming that is a joke? NE is a team you won't know much about until season starts. They play the blind school from VA and TN, as well as deaf school in Florida, per dagoober sources. They have six highschool All Americans transferring in this summer. Hope they don't choke again this year...

they actually play a good schedule imo. Northeastern brings size and athleticism. Their line looked just like a Dudley line that I usually see.

I believe that's about right. Reidsville will be about the same as last year.
I expect Reidsville and Shelby to be 1 and 2. Salsibury will be the favorite out east. But, its a chance they go west. Northeastern will be the favorite out east. Anson county will be a threat and maybe Randleman goes small 2a.

Most of the usual suspects

As a Shelby follower, the Golden Lions have a lot holes to fill, particularly on the offense and special teams. As usual, I trust the coaches will find the right combination to make them a contender.

Like most Shelby fans on here have stated, it will most likely be a season where Shelby relies on the Defense early in the season until the offensive line and skill players start to gel.

Shelby, on offense, has to replace:
School's all-time leader passer in yards (7,781), completions (486) and passing TDs (83)
School's #2, #4 and #12 all-time leading receivers in yardage, School's #2, #3, and #7 all-time leading receivers in receptions, School's #3, #4, and #11 all-time leading receivers in TD receptions
Schools' #22 all-time leading rusher
4 of 5 starting OL
Kicker, Punter, KO Specialist, Holder, Long Snapper, Punt Returners, KO Returners

Great opportunity for the "next man up"
