Following is a email from Dr. Bud Black, longtime coach and tournament director at Cherryville High School. The game will showcase the senior boys and girls in the most western 22 1A high schools in North Carolina. The date is March 21, 2014.

1A Basketball Players

Midwest

October 4, 2014

The plans for the inaugural 1A All-Star Basketball Games were
finalized by the committee made up of basketball coaches and athletic directors
in a meeting in Asheville, North Carolina on September 29, 2014. This committee
with representatives from the 1A Smoky Mountain Conference, the 1A Southern
Piedmont Conference, and the 1A/2A Western Highlands Conference elected Dr. Bud
Black, Assistant Basketball Coach and Tournaments Director at Cherryville High
School as chair. Other members of the
committee are Brett Lamb, Athletic Director and Girls Coach-
Highland High School; Daniel Schmitz, Athletic Director - Lincoln Charter High
School; Chad McClure, Girls Coach - Hayesville High School; Daron Williams,
Boys Coach - Mitchell High School; and Scott Harrill, Athletic Director and
Boys Coach - Cherryville High School.

The basketball games will feature the outstanding senior
boys and girls players in the western part of North Carolina. The Smokey Mountain Conference's 11 high
schools will select their 15 best players to compete against the 15 best
players from the nine high schools of the Southern Piedmont Conference and the
two 1A high schools from the Western Highlands Conference. Thus, the girls game will have 15 players
from the West competing against the 15 girls players from the Midwest. The boys games will have the same arrangement
with 15 boys from the West competing against 15 boys from the Midwest. There will be a head coach and two assistant
coaches for each team. The players and
coaches are to be selected by the basketball coaches of their respective
conferences.

The committee voted unanimously to have the
inaugural games at Cherryville High School.
The games will be played on March 21, 2015 at the Cherryville High
School Nixon Gymnasium on the Bud Black Court with the girls game slated to
begin at 5:00 p.m. and the boys games at 6:30 p.m. The game will be divided into two 20-minute
halves; however, all other rules of high school basketball will be followed.

The schedule for the game day will have the West
boys and girls teams practicing at the game site at 1:00 p.m. and the Midwest
boys and girls teams practicing at the game site at 12 noon. Additional practices may be organized at the coaches'
discretion; however, the committee voiced its opinion that practices other than
the game day practices cannot be made mandatory because of the transportation
issues. A banquet will be held in the First
Baptist Church's Family Life Center (adjacent to the Nixon Gymnasium) beginning
at 3 p.m. This will include the pre-game
meal for the players and coaches.
Mementoes and awards will be presented to the coaches and players. Parents are encouraged to attend and
contribute a nominal amount for support of the West vs Midwest 1A All-Star
Games.

It looks like the Blue-White All-Star Game in Asheville, which usually features a handful of SMC players, is also on March 21. Shame that these 2 will conflict. Seems like one of them could've played on Friday and the other on Saturday.

+1

It has. The Citizen-Times article this morning about the date being set for the Blue-White game even noted that. Not sure why they switched things up. The West/Midwest thing has been set for a while, so I wonder if they didn't put it on Saturday thinking the Blue White was usually Friday, only to have the Blue White committee switch things up.

I thought this was gonna be another post on how nobody from the west can beat WS prep......oh wait someone just did last night.... maybe the state ranking of 7 is about right....
