Week 6 Picks.. Tropical Madness Edition!

West Stokes at Morehead

Last week proved to be a very bi polar outing to what I was expecting from WS and HPA. Andrews did manage to keep it close for a little over a quarter and a half, but West just managed to shut them down at all ends and had a killer 2nd quarter before having fun and doing what they needed to do in the 2nd half to a ball control shutout. Honestly a disappointing outing for HPA, I expected a closer game, but experience and size matters and HPA just doesn’t have it yet.

This week’s not gonna be worth much of a write up, I expect another nice win for the Wildcats here as Morehead hosts them on their land. Morehead plays one of the more courageous non conference schedules out of anyone in our 3 conferences, but they just haven’t done enough to either be respectable or impressive. 2 bad losses to NE Guilford and WIlliams, and they let a winnable game slide vs a not so hot Rockingham County team. Unless Morehead’s a team we aren’t expecting then West should have another solid night here.

McMichael at North Forsyth

North Forsyth's having a decent year despite their offensive woes, they can't get much going on that side of the ball but their defense is very athletic and well coached. They held Reidsville to under 40 last week which was a win for them. This week they have a very rough McMichael team who's struggling to produce points. They had to fight for their one win over South Stokes, and they are struggling to find a working O. I seen film of them vs Forbush with them in a version of the Wisbone.. they are that desperate. Time will tell if they get there, but I just don't see it. NF badly needs a win and I think they will get it tonight.

Rivalry Week! STATESVILLE AT WEST IREDELL

Statesville at West Iredell

Does West have enough to give the Warrior its first win over Statesville since 2010 with 2009 being their last time beating them at West.

Statesville: last Friday - 21-0 on Foard? 4 starters was out but Statesville offense has struggled in 3-4 games this yr. Offensively Statesville isn’t as explosive and sadly they don’t give their WR more routs but Deep shots. I would see more play action ; boot leg imo and also there run game is Eh bc they seem struggle to run in between the tackles and more success to outside - Statesville D is very scrappy. They ain’t the best sometimes as they gave up a lot rushing yard to south and gave up a lot of passing yards to Ln but they bend but don’t break

West Iredell:

OL has to play better and QB play is a must here. I would like to see West playmakers make plays and spread it out. West has 3-4 games I like #s are little low and some go both ways but overall West has done OK but has underachieved imo. West Most contain the outside on runs and must keep Statesville WR in check. I would like to see some aggressiveness and they must get turnovers.

I still give Statesville the edge - 32-24 is my score prediction

Carver has a touch week ahead of them

Listen my Yellow Jackets might be in trouble if we don't get a win tonight against Bishop. The Villains are coming in 3-1 with their only loss coming to CSD. My Yellow Jackets are coming in 2-2 after an embarrassing lost to Christ the King who came in the game 0-3. I will say that if we don't win tonight we're don't have a chance at Homecoming against Community School of Davidson. The only other chance I see us winning is against Prep at the end of the year and that's a huge question mark. They hired this guy because he's an alum but this has been a horrible mess since they let Griffin go. This man shouldn't be a head coach because the kids don't respect him and he hasn't came through on any of the promises that he promised the kids when he took over. I promise you as an alum I'm gonna start a petition that this man is not the coach next year. Griffin had these kids as freshman and you haven't seen anything that they were already doing with Griffin now. They haven't gotten any better neither does it look like they've been in the weight room. I can't continue to sit back and watch the show that he's putting out on Friday nights. Then he has the nerve to post come see the greatest show in town. That's a bunch of bologna. I digress but enough is enough of the foolishness that's going on at 3545.

Write a check

Someone posted in another thread to write a check. There in lies the problem. Write the check, then get off your arse and go help. Some know it alls spout off like money cures all. It doesn’t, being there to help someone that’s lost everything and providing info and guidance and resources does. I don’t care if your republican, democrat, independent, socialist whatever, I spent years ensuring you have the right to voice your opinion. You need to be respectful of all opinions. Put your boots on the ground or shut the hell up.
I don’t post often, but that got under my skin. Taking my 70 year old arse to bed and rest a few days, then heading back.

I did write the check as well. OOOOHHHHRRRRAAAHHHH,

Best Players

Wanted some input on best players you’ve ever seen at your schools. Not who necessarily went on to have the most collegiate or NFL success, but the best players when they were playing in your team’s colors in high school. A few for me PERSONALLY in no particular order.

Albemarle- TA Mclendon. The best player I have ever seen, and arguably the greatest NC HS football player ever, up there with Chris Leak. Numbers speak for themselves. Guy was an absolute machine.

Thomasville- EJ Abrams-Ward. One of the freakiest athletes I’ve seen at the 1A level. Kid had a cannon, could run, play defense, would light you up. Just one hell of an athlete.

East Surry- Chris Griggs. One of the smoothest runners I have ever seen in 1A, smooth as butter on toast. Could make you miss, but could also put one foot in the ground and take off. Great player.

Elkin- Terry Adams. An absolute force off of the end and pretty much unblockable. Kid had power but an incredible first step and made so many plays in the backfield.

Robbinsville- Cuttler Adams. Holding a SMC record is something in its own right, and this kid was the definition of consistency. Vision, speed, power. A great kid by all accounts, and a great player.

Murphy- Carl Pickens. Another candidate for best 1A player ever. Played WR at the next level, but may have been an even better DB. Truly special and generational athlete.

I know I have left too many players out, but this is just some of my list. Would love to hear some opinions on these players or others I haven’t mentioned. Sorry for the long post.

Week 8 Area Picks

MA at South Stokes

The Bears ended up with more of a challenge than we all expected, I figured it would be respectable for the Cards for a half then MA would go off, but it was a solid 3 quarter game from the Cards. It showed both how real they are, and why MA needs to focus on the little things moving forward or else it will bite them in a month. They got 3 games left to do so, and this week’s matchup is going to be the easiest for them as they head to Sauratown to play South Stokes who are just trying to stay healthy to make it to next week, as they play North Stokes in what is their last chance at a W. This week however they gotta face the MA buzzsaw and it’s not going to be an easy outing for them.

MA by whatever they want.

Forbush at East Surry

The Bush got very lucky last week as Elkin made a beyond dumb mistake with that fumble and their LB’er happened to be in the right place at the right time to scoop and score. They got a chance to make the playoffs but it’s gonna take a perfect effort to get there. But tonight sure isn’t going to be the night for them as they head to Pilot to face a jamming ES team. The Cards make WC look awful last week with that burst of scoring on the long plays, and I expect another one of those outings tonight. Bush’s defense struggles against the run and their offense is very one dimensional. East should win by what they want to here.

Elkin at East Wilkes

A solid chance at revenge is at hand for the Ronda Cards as they return home to play their longtime foe Elkin in what could be a fun night for them. Last year Elkin shocked everyone as they played out of their heads without their HC at the time Wood, who wasn’t even there that night, and they fought hard to get a huge upset win for the Elks which helped both save their season and get them into the dance last year. EW finished the year out okay, but that loss just spoiled their season, and I know it’s lingered in their heads ever since. This year it’s a very similar situation as both teams enter in similar spots to last year: Elkin’s been a very underwhelming team who’s let 2 games they should have won slip away from them including last week’s 1 point loss to the Bush off a bad mistake. EW meanwhile’s lived up to their potential and been a solid pest for everyone in the best way. In a lot of ways the Elks caught the Cards sleeping last year, but this year won’t be that same situation. EW by at least 3 TD’s.

West Stokes at Reidsville

Big one here as the Wildcats have the bad luck of being Reidsville’s homecoming game. West is finding ways to win despite not having sexy wins, last week’s game was very, very ugly as North Forsyth gave them everything they wanted and then some. But they did enough to pull it out and to be able to play for the big trophy. Reidsville’s who they typically are, super athletic and a killer defense they’ve only given up 45 points this year to a tough non conference schedule. Watched the Eastern Alamance game and I was very impressed by how cold and efficient they were, they were like a terminator that night. I expect West to play a very deep planned outing tonight, but even then it will be hard for them to handle that speed. Very few teams around the state can.

Alleghany at North Stokes

Trojans are jamming hard right now while North Stokes’s momentum has screeched to a halt, they had only 19 yards of offense vs Starmount last week. This has always been a traditionally hard hitting game and I expect the best from N Stokes. Alleghany I just think is better right now, more #’s and more successful offense.

Wilkes Central at West Wilkes

A big matchup for West Wilkes here, they haven’t beat WC in 17 years. On paper they have all the big things on their side: bigger line, tougher wins, and way better defense. But WC is very athletic and can be a pest with their defense so West better be ready to thud it up tonight. I think this will be a very similar game to the East Wilkes game, WC will give West as much fits as possible with their offense but West will do enough to pull it out.

Carrboro at Starmount

A rather interesting matchup here, one I’ve always wanted to see too. Carrboro and Starmount have always been a dream game for me, glad they are finally doing it. Carrboro isn’t what they were 12 years ago but they are a decent .500 team and a good test for Starmount they haven’t had this year besides MA. This is a replacement for North Iredell’s drop of them early in the year, so I’m glad the seniors get at least one more game for the Rams. I think Starmount will be fine here, they are one of the tougher teams Carrboro will play and I respect them for scheduling it and taking the drive. Starmount’s jamming on all cylinders right now and I don’t see Carrboro keeping it close.
