HP Central names Coach

HPC needs a head coach who can engage with the youth programs and feeder middle schools, ensuring everyone is on the same page. They also need mentorship programs to help keep players focused off the field in order to make a real turnaround. As you mentioned, they’ll need the coach to stay long enough to see those changes through. High Point has always had talent and athletes; now it’s about harnessing that potential. It’s sad, the year before last they didn’t even have summer workouts for years and they can barely field a varsity team. It’ll begin and end with the adults in the community to change things around.

Grimsley vs Rolesville 4a Title

Saying the first time Rolesville lost was due to coaching is a stretch. Their QB was injured the week before and missed big chucks of the championship game. He couldn't run, and his running and scrambling was a big part of their success. He was limited to being a pocket passer, no RPO game and no escaping pressure. I think that Grimsley would agree that if their extremely mobile, dynamic QB was out, or playing at 50%, with only a week to prepare, it would greatly effect the teams performance.
I'd like to clarify my sentiments. Rolesville has a lot of coaches on their staff now and a lot of them have little experience and many seem to be in it for the photo op. There is a huge difference from coaching youth league - jv and varsity. You can load up on talent and they had a super talented team but if the staff still does not have a lot of varsity experience and if they aren't coaches that teach their players to be better, you will eventually run into a team that is as talented and has the coaching.

Charlotte Catholic and Cardinal Gibbons 6A

6A will be easier for the teams dropping down from playing 4A the last 4 years. You must’ve forgot Mt. Tabor won 3AA in 2020 before having to play up the last 4 years. They will be young next season but knowing what their jv has they’ll be competing for 6A titles the following 3 years. Northern will be one of the top 4 favorites next year to win it. They bring back majority of their team. Northern had Grimsley on the ropes half way through their game against them last season and lost their QB. Their playoff run didn’t go as planned because of losing the QB but they still made it to the third round without him playing 4A. Dudley will not be the same going forward. They will have a few pieces, that’s if Grimsley doesn’t pluck them away.
Ashbrook and Kings Mountain both will be really good the next 3-4yrs. Both have a lot returning and both of their pipelines are loaded with talented kids.
Once Dudley’s OC left for his new job I started hearing immediately that this was going to hurt Dudley. At that time we heard some coaches/players may go with him but no one knew how many.
Mt. Tabor will be a force and I expect JM Robinson to be tough also. I think the 6A west playoffs will come down to who can stay healthy once the playoffs start.

Guilford County off-season news

Their OC, who many believed would become the next HC at Dudley, took the head coaching job at NE instead. Half of the coaching staff followed him, and some returning starters are making the move as well. Its not just about the school; its about the coaching staff, which has the potential to turn NE into a powerhouse. With their leadership, they’re re poised to turn things around.
But Guilford County doesn’t have open enrollment?

Good luck to Coach David. He is going to need it and then some. At this point, HPC football is an embarrassment and 100% not competitive. Saying this is a monumental rebuilding job is an understatement. Let's hope the community and players buy into what Coach David is selling. They need a coach that will stick this out for a while and not throw in the towel and run off after a year or two.

Guilford County off-season news

Dudley is on the decline as a program. They will not only be losing a strong senior class, but a significant portion of their coaching staff has moved to Northeast, taking some of their best returning players with them. The JV team also wasn’t as talented or successful as it has been in recent years. It’s disappointing for fans because we’re finally going to see them play Grimsley, a matchup that should have happened between 2019 and 2023 when both teams were strong. I mentioned a few years ago that by the time the game actually takes place, it wouldn’t be the same. It will now be Grimsley, then Northern next year, who should compete for or win the 6A title, followed by everyone else. Northern would have given Weddington a better game in defeat if they hadn’t lost their quarterback at the end of the season.
Much of the Dudley coaching staff has gone to NEGHS? Why? Not much football tradition there as far as I know and not much recent success. I am sure the fan and community support is much better at Dudley than at NEGHS.

High Point Central

It’s unfortunate to say, but the real reason HPC has been struggling is that the majority of their youth have been choosing other paths in life, many of which aren’t necessarily the best. They need a consistent staff but also better community support.
Unfortunately, community and fan support often only comes in increasing number with success. We are talking about a team that scored 19 points all of last season. They got bombed and destroyed in every game last season. Even the most rabid HPC fans aren't going to want to sit through 60 and 70 to zero type blow outs Friday night after Friday night. My main thing is I simply refuse to believe a 3A school with likely 1000+ students can't come up with 40-50 kids that want to play ball, work hard at it and want to win.

Mount Airy needs weeks 4 and 5 games

That is up to the ones that can go to the games, I keep wanting to make it to a home game and have not in about 7 or more years. So if people from each side want to make that drive it is fine with me. Also, do they want to get locked into a 2025-2029 series is a question that would need to be answered.
Football contracts are usually just 2 years.
