When Murphy abd Andrews exit the smc we will only have 4 1a team. Will the state do a split if it only has 1 2a school and 4 1a schools? Maybe smoky or Franklin will be 2a by then.

Forbush might get kicked to conference 34 or 36.
I want to see Ashe go 3A and I have a lot of respect for Payne, but I've seen this game before.
For good gates, Forbush could help 34 or 36 but the MVAC will want to keep them if they can to help their gates. JMOForbush might get kicked to conference 34 or 36.

This should give North Surry a better chance for playoffs every year ?I still can't believe this is real.. we've all struggled for it for 6/7 years to get out of the WPAC but we had to deal with it. Past 2 years have been rough with NF coming in making things too loaded it was going to have to change.
I'll definitely take these lineups though; the old NW was fun as could be back when I played and 2012 was a fun year too we never should have left. Every school was making oodles of money and there was solid parity (heck even North Stokes had a solid offense in 2011/12 and had 2 all state kids,) it's a shame what matchups and money we could had in the 7 year stretch we couldn't have. But it will be for the best of the Surry schools to do this. Central could be quite good in 2021; so will MA, we will be in the thick of things, and then there's East. South will be solid as long as Dave stays.
MVAC wise Forbush getting added will help that conference a ton in terms of parity and quality. They will be really solid the next few years and with Funderburke there he knows how to win in that conference but they will have to beat Starmount, East Wilkes, and Wilkes Central. Elkin and Alleghany will be the ? marks. For Elkin If the JV kids coming up could do decent like last year they have a shot but it will be hard to replace these seniors they will lose. Alleghany will I think reach their peak in 2021 when this junior class are seniors; they are good sized and run a killer ball control offense for 1A. Just gotta get better on defense. West and North Wilkes will have a rough go unless the new guys get them going.
The Stokes/Forsyth conference will be interesting.. looks like it will be West/Walkertown's conference to lose unless North Forsyth gets over it's drama and Carver wakes up. Them moving to 1A is what they've needed honestly for 4 years. They were a year too late in 2016 to go down; if they had been in the Northwest the past few years they wouldn't have been as bad they woulda beat South and North Stokes in those 2 dire years of 17/18. The new guy has his work cut out for him but the #'s game will be more equal in that split conference. West got a break here actually; they will do well here in this conference plus they could keep their rivalry games with MA, East, and us. Win/win for them.
I do feel bad for Ashe; I honestly wasn't expecting them to be 3A at all. I'm sure they will challenge it but I don't think they could win. NCHSAA tried this 20 years ago to them as well but they had a lucky spot to go in the MVAC as SC went to 1A and West Stokes didn't want to have to play West Caldwell and Hibriten and got out.. this time it's way more full. If they do win I just hope it doesn't mess the lineups up.. they got it much better I'd hate to see it ruined.
As for out of area that Shelby conference will be brutal for Highland Tech.. won't be surprised if their lowest scores for Shelby vs them will be 65-0. Poor Atkins as well.. they will be lucky to make it 4 years. The state woulda done them better by putting them with Central Davidson.

Just seen West Stokes isn't happy; can't say I don't blame them the Forsyth schools don't bring anything.
Honestly I think if they merged that conference with the Rockingham one for Football only it'd make more sense. It'd be the 3 Rockingham schools, West Stokes, and the Forsyth schools with Bishop. That would be more than enough to give West gate. The Rockingham schools would travel better than the Forsyth ones plus they can still play East, MA, and whoever else they want and make money.
Then Basketball time they can go back to their other conferences and do fine.
In basketball Millennium Charter (1A) will probably be at the bottom for a good while because they have not been winning too often and their 2020-2021 does not have all the NWC schools on their schedule. They went 2-27 last year and 5-19 & 5-19 the year before.Just seen West Stokes isn't happy; can't say I don't blame them the Forsyth schools don't bring anything.

This is their schedule this year but the NCHSAA could change it if they are going to be in the NWC.

I honestly think that in 4 years that every high school in WNC will have drastically higher numbers. Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Buncombe, parts of Swain, Cherokee & Transylvania Counties in particular. I'm in the architectural/building industry around here and I can tell you there has never been the influx of new home construction as their has been since the pandemic began and it's not going to slow down any time soon. Every city slicker with a big enough wallet is building a mountain getaway and they're not all just Floridian retirees anymore. The clients are getting younger and have more kids. So, I think by 2025 or whatever, the landscape will look a lot different. 1 A's might be 2 A's, 2A's might be 3A's and so forth. That's what I was thinking. If the new school opens in 2025 at the start of the next alignment, I imagine they'll either want Franklin and/or Smoky to go back to 2A and the SMC be a 1A/2A split, or for there to be a 2A/3A split with Franklin/Smoky/the Haywood schools/Brevard (which would then maybe send Rosman back to the SMC once there's not a 1A/2A split option that includes the other school in their county). If the school opens during this cycle, the options aren't good. But they'd almost have to just push to be the only 2A team in a 5 team 1A/2A split SMC, or else they'd have multiple trips an hour past Asheville for the farthest west current 2A conferences. If they went in with Brevard and Hendersonville, that would mean four trips to Rutherford Co in most sports. If they went in with the WHC, that would mean three trips almost to Hickory in most sports now that Draughn, Patton, and West Caldwell are in there.

I agree. Especially for communities with good broadband access. Building departments are overloaded and builders are a year or two behind. We were trying to buy a house and the only thing that even got us able to make an offer was the ridiculously low interest rate. House prices are skyrocketing and selling quickly.
And here I was looking forward to one less home school type team on the schedule every season, guess not.Smc will have 5 non conference games like always
I haven't seen much growth in Cherokee County but 1) there aren't exactly many housing opportunities here unless you are starting from scratch and 2) I'm not in construction or real estate so I'm not as in tune with those happenings as some are.If the mountains ever get it together on broadband, I think there will be a lot of growth with the ‘remote economy’ coming. It isn’t great in a lot of Cherokee Co. right now though.

I will say that downtown Murphy is as busy these last few months as I've ever seen it so maybe I am missing the obvious.
Dont think its that simplistic. Some areas are growing fast, I can go 20 minutes down the road into Towns County or Union County GA and both are growing, other areas not as much. For growth to happen there has to be something to draw people. There isn't a good way in and out of that part of the state. It's 2 hours from any major city. The population curve of that area will stay flat for a long long time.
Not true at all. Multiple ways in and out most of that part of the state if you actually know where you're going. The fact that it is 2 hours away from any big city is the draw, in itself. The population curve is currently spiking in a rate in which it hasn't in atleast the last 30 years. Broadband is a very important factor for a decision with a lot of people when it comes to wanting to build here but there's not many who actually back out of it just because of that. While not as good as most options, if you have the money, and if you're going to build here in the mountains then you do, then there's avenues such as long range hotspots, Sat. internet, Skyrunner, Hughes, Etc.For growth to happen there has to be something to draw people. Rosman has asked to be put back in the smc or conference 42.
Did you guys get much snow today?Truth is no one in nchsaa knows we play sports on the N.C./tn line. Having football in February for us is crazy. We have no real representation.
I’m in Ashe County right now. Close to a foot in Fleetwood.Bout 6 inches
I can’t imagine in the far west part of the state. Travel can be a challenge any time.Yeah it’s still snowing. Imagine football in February. It’ll be fun.
