How do you think McDowell girls match up with teams like Lake Norman, N Meck and Mallard Creek?

It all depends on how our young players progress. Our best post player is only a sophomore and has missed some games. Defense is the calling card. We like to run a full court press/1-3-1 trap and it causes havoc on most teams.

The MAC will have some challenges with Reynolds, North Buncombe and Erwin but the Lady Titans are definitely the favorites.

Lady Titans with an easy win and a nice revenge game for the boys 68-51 over South Caldwell.

Time for conference play to begin in earnest!

The Lady Titans coasted over South Caldwell. I thought they pressed effectively and shot the ball well. It didn’t appear that they had a lot of height and a team that can break that press could give them trouble, but they beat a decent Lady Spartan team fairly easily.
This was the second time I’ve seen the SC boys and they’ve been solidly defeated both times. They’ve got some players, but in both games (McDowell and Hickory) it was outside shooting that seemed to make the difference and I would have thought that would be a strength for them. McDowell looked solid, but I was pretty disappointed when the big guy got a breakaway and then didn’t finish. You’ve got to toss it down with authority when such an opportunity presents itself.

You won't see Parkins make many thundering dunks. But he has incredible hands and post moves for his size. His nickname is baby joker since he's like a mini Nikola Jokic. His opponents came up with it from what I have been told.

McDowell girls don't have a ton of height, Joyner is 6'0 and our other post has a torn ACL.

How would you compare McDowell to Reynolds?

Not hearing anyone mention Watauga girls in 4a threads. They’ve played a tough schedule and seem to be hitting their stride. They still have one of the best players in the state in Sear, but McDowell’s team defense may be to much…would like to see!

I agree. Watauga has probably played one of the most challenging schedules so far. They had a pretty bad loss to Mallard Creek but have wins against N Wilkes, N Guilford and ACR. They’ll be ready come playoff time.

It’s going to be a tall task for anyone to beat LKN.
