Seems the trend is for games to be moved to Thursday if there is even a hint of precipitation on Friday. Forecast calls for 30%-60% chance based on what I have seen.

Some schools in the east have played multiple Thursday games for possible rain and holidays. Wonder how quick games will get moved? I would assume this would have to be agreed on by both teams?

Thoughts?

I would think its too early to be making calls on moving games now. Forecast can change by then.

Oh no doubt. I am not speaking about making the call tomorrow or even Monday. Just the overall trend that seems to have increased in recent years. Numerous systems are out Friday in observance of Veterans Day. That might also play a role.

I would guess by Tuesday you will see the usual suspects move games in this area.

This time of year, game should be played on Friday night even if there is rain. I understand not doing this in Sept. since a rain game will chew up a field and leave it in bad shape over the rest of the season. But this time of year, if a field gets torn up, you have until the end of Aug. 2023 to get it back in shape. No games should be moved from Friday nights this time of the season. And if a school has a turf field, no way the game should be moved due to rain.

what's funny about this right now is the fact that the weatherman can barely make an accurate forecast for the next day....much less 5 to 6 days out....if on tues nite or wed morning next week, it looks like heavy rain may fall...then the powers that be can make a decision...I assure you,,finances will come into play with the decision..........................

So help me out, do both teams have to agree to the change?

Rest assured there will be at least one 2A east game that I fully expect to get moved and get moved early if both teams agree.

I agree that everything should be done to play on Friday nights in the playoffs barring anything like a hurricane or severe thunderstorms that are prolonged.

Anyone that says finances should be considered doesnt really understand how the distribution of gate receipts work in the playoffs.

Just my opinion.

I think football is played outside for a reason!!! It makes me laugh that teams nowadays in certain areas can’t play in the rain!!!
Say you don’t know about the financial/business side of things without saying it.

I’ve had kids in a program for several years and imo the crowds that teams get on a Thursday or Monday night don’t make up that much financially then just letting the kids play on Friday in the elements…. I was at one game a few years back that was played against a county rival on a Thursday and still barely had 400-500 people…. These schools make their money in other areas that losing a couple hundred bucks 1 week a year wouldn’t matter that much..

I’ve also been to some games which were played in the rain that our schools fans still traveled rather well to go watch play minus maybe 50-100 people that might have gone.. And we took about 3000-4000 to the state championship in 2017 from 3 hours away… Yes some people stayed home but there was also the option of watching it on TV…

I agree. As long as there's no lightning, play the game. Some of the most fun games I've ever been to were rain games.
You read this entire thread and still missed the point just like him. Money is what matters at the end of the day to the NCHSAA, it’s not about playing in the rain.

Davis does that mean that the beach is closer on Saturday than Thursday? 😂🤣🥲. Don’t get bent outta shape, I know exactly what you ment.
I get it and don’t get bent out of shape too easily😊. Actually referring to those four hour trips to or from far west. No missed school, less that would need to miss work, and easier travel. I can get to South Carolina beaches an hour quicker than to Swain County. Fortunately for us, they have to come to Thomasville this time.

All valid points. As of right now, Friday looks to be a wash out in SE NC. Sure a lot can change, but if one looks at what happened earlier in the season on a couple of occasions, expect the changes to start late Monday or Tuesday.

Question is, will most prefer to move up the games to Thursday when school is in session to keep it more like a regular Friday with one less day of preparation or possibly Saturday? Saturday might be problematic since that would be two consecutive days the kids are out of class. Weather appears to be better Saturday compared to Thursday. I think the majority would be moved to Thursday. I dont think gate receipts play that big of a role any longer with most schools now having NFHS. People will choose to stay home and watch from there.

Will be interesting to see how it works out. Preference for everyone would be Friday I am sure. Maybe the forecast will change.

Some teams may want that extra day of healing up an injured player

Calling for more rain on Thursday than Friday in Whiteville. Clear on Saturday. They better change the games to Saturday if they know better. But my opinion does not matter. Maybe someone elses does.

I suspect that is why some games have yet to be moved. A lot can change with a weather forecast. I think it is smart for schools to stay in communication with each other, the officials, and all the support staff required for a game so a good decision can be made on when to play.

Look how the forecast has changed since yesterday. Appears that Saturday night might be the best choice as of this morning.

How do you post an image from your phone to this forum? I'll post some weather info our company gets if someone will help me.

Whiteville is calling for heavy rain on Thursday and Friday night. Saturday night looks pretty good.
80% AND 90% rain on Thursday and Friday night. 0% on Saturday night. Don't that make more sense to play on Saturday unless you want to play in the rain and wind.

Why are we moving Football games so much nowadays. It is Football. Last 5 years 20% chance of rain these coaches want to move to Thursday. Crazy. All these games that have moved to Thursday are going to get more rain than on Friday now.

I'm an old sports nut but playing in the rain is part of the game.

Going to go watch JK and ED.

I agree in some ways with you. Football should be played in light to moderate rain. But this could be a real soaking later in the week. Grass fields would get too torn up and quality of play affected. As well, gate receipts matter and even many of the most dedicated fans are not going to sit in a downpour for 3 hours. Playing such a game would result in much lower revenue and high schools need that football revenue to keep their athletic programs afloat.

looks like the track is shifting farther west. Eastern NC may very well be in good shape Thursday and Friday
