Thoughts on the new MAC/WNC conference?

Maryville says hi. Heh. Anyway, even if Pisgah Waynesville game gets out of conference, I could see where you could still play at end of year if schedule right? I hope to make it to one sometime before I leave. I mean I've always enjoyed my time going to some old high country smashmouth ball. As a matter of fact, some of my favorite games were enjoyed in the land of the sky but not Enka lol.

Wrong- conference play goes on in NC from mid-late September onward til Week 12, based on the size of the conference. In the late 70's-early 80's the game was played Halloween week, which added a whole other layer to the pranks. When Pisgah moved to the 2A WAC and Tuscola remained in the MAC, the game got moved to Week 2, which was way too early for a game of that magnitude.

Why is that way to early? I don't get it.

I am just guessing but there could be several reasons. With a game early in the season, the teams are still gelling together so the team that loses but finishes well can say, "well, you didn't get us at our best; our team would have beaten you if we had played now". Also, when a game is late or the last game, the hype (trash talk) lasts much longer and builds, especially if both teams are having great seasons. With an early meeting, unless there is another big game coming up at the end of the season with other opponents, the excitement of the season dries up after that game.

"A game of that magnitude"? It's only a big game to people in Haywood county. They should play it whenever there is an opening. Asheville played Reynolds the first game of the year for decades. If its as big of a game as you claim it is, it doesn't matter if it's August 14th or November 14th.

Top 3 teams in the Mac may change with in each other. And will stay that way For a long time. That's a fact

Whc won more playoff games then the Mac, NB and Mcdowell lost to a 1A team that's pathetic.

Now you are just talking out of your butt because your head knows better.

Comparing the level of competition that the WHC played in the playoffs and what the MAC faced is ridiculous.

I AGREE WITH YOU ACR HAD A TOUGH DRAW IN THE PLAYOFFS BUT if u going to be the best u got to beat the best hats off to that crest bunch

Keep believing that it's just another game. There is a reason the Great American Rivalry Series keeps returning to Haywood County every October. I think they just discovered you two play each other.

As for a revised MAC, the trend will be for it to become like the old college Big 8, (Big 2 Little 6). Asheville and Reynolds will dominate, some team will make some noise every 3-4 years, and the athletic have nots will battle for 3rd place. The old days of a progression of champions like Pisgah >Brevard>Tuscola>Reynolds>Asheville> are gone and will most likely never be seen again.

Eventually the concussion scare will kill football as we know it but I'll be in my 80's, in a home, and will be lucky if I remember to put on pants before I go out of my room.

Agreed, I was referring to the comment of winning only one playoff game. We lost to the second best team in 3AA (looking at scores) and it took OT for that to happen. We easily could have been playing Crest and we could have took them to OT like Weddington also.
