Thoughts on realignment

Per the NCHSAA it's all about reducing travel costs and limiting split conferences as much as possible, which makes sense. All 400 schools have their "natural/bitter" rivals(which may or may not be in all sports; for example there are some fierce girls volleyball rivalries between national-level programs that probably don't carry over to football. Don't look for the NCHSAA to try and accommodate any "rivalries" as we fans define them; just not practical.

Grizzly, South Point and East Gaston are moving to 2A while Hunter Huss and Stuart Cramer are moving up to 3A. There have been some suggestions for a Gaston/Lincoln conference with Shelby thrown in for good measure.

South Point
East Gaston
Shelby
Lincolnton
East Lincoln
West Lincoln
North Lincoln
Lake Norman Charter
Holy Cow.......this will be a slobber knocker of a conference right here if this holds true......WOW!

Just my opinion but I am with Sasha. I think the Lincoln County schools are going to join the Gaston County 2A teams. I also feel the Catawba County teams will remain together. I don't like it. The Catawba County teams have slipped in the last four years overall.

Maiden
Bandys
Bunker Hill
Newton-Conover
Fred T Foard
Hibriten
West Iredell

This looks more like a new conference. If you look at current talent only Maiden and Hibriten seem like top contenders in football. If this occurs a lot of teams records will drastically improve but the playoff success will fall.

South Point
East Lincoln
Lincolnton
Shelby
North Lincoln
West Lincoln
Lake Norman Charter
East Gaston

This becomes a dangerous conference for state title contention in both subdivisions. Friday nights would be special.

It looks like any chances of South Point and East Gaston being part of an all-2A conference with Lincoln County schools and Shelby may get deep-sixed (as well as the suggestions for a Gaston and Cleveland 3A combo). The Gaston County AD wants to keep the Big South 3A/2A conference intact - the only difference being that Stuart Cramer and Hunter Huss move up with South Point and East Gaston move down.
