Kinda like you guys, buzz. You can have a weak schedule and still be really goid. People are reading too much into that NR win over Thomasville. Salisbury by at least three td’s.
What I was thinking too. At this point I don’t see MA in the 4. NR would have to win that game. The next conference champ is too far down the line.
Yes but it will help Rvilke oowp also.
As far as one a two seed it will go to the rville/Swain winner.

I hope they go back to the old way of this in 2025. I don't even try to understand this crap. It looks to be based on how badly your school does in the classroom and gets the best spot if they have fewer or no losses and as I said I don't understand it. lol It is all a foreign langange to me, lol Go back to MaxPreps seeding and matchups ! !

It's pretty simple your winning percentage is worth 30% your opponents ( combined) winning percentage is worth 40% and your opponent's opponents ( combined) winning percentage is worth 30%.
Most states use the same system only difference is the percentages , I personally believe they should give a smaller percentage for the oowp something like 40%-40% 20% plus some states give extra credit if you play teams in a larger classification or deductions especially if you lose to a team in a lower classification.
As we've discussed serval times before my biggest problem with maxpreps it's not just a simple formula like this they use a computer algorithm and no one knows what the criteria or equations they put in that formula is. But unlike maxpreps the rpi transparent.

My problem with rpi is this. If you look at Max or Simmons etc. M.Airy for example SOS is mid 20s and probably will be 30;or so but yet they are 3 in rpi but was 1 recently.
How does that make sense considering Rville Swain ER have played a much tougher schedule?

Swain has played a tougher schedule but was behind them all season even though they both undefeated. Seems to me MA should be farther behind IF owp+oowp = sos. Seems like max Simmons etc are much closer to what it should be.

Well my problem with maxpreps right now just comparing undefeated teams they have Mt Airy's sos @ -23.1 , Tarboro ( who would be #1 if you combine the E & W RPIs) @ -15.6 and Swain's @ -14.6 yet they have Mt Airy ranked #1 , Tarboro #2 and Swain #4 so why? What is in (here you go ER) in the secret sauce? In fact in the top 10 on maxpreps only #9 & #10 has worse a sos then Mt Airy.
Now we might say with our opinions that Mt Airy is the best team but none of the rankings suppose to be opinions just the numbers. But at least with RPI I can see why who is ranked what.
I could say the same thing about Simmons only difference he has 7-0 Swain #5 behind #4 6-1 ER even though he has Swain with a stronger sos than ER.

I think any team that is a defending undefeated State Champion be it Mount Airy or whoever should have the #1 seed in the east or west and then go by the RPI for all others. That team should have that respect for their accomplishment of winning the State Championship the previous year. The next State Champion that is not Mount Airy will feel the same way. I can just hear the next State Champion complain about the same thing if it is not Mount Airy.
I did an edit you might not like evolving ER you might not like concerning Simmons but it brings up that same question...why?
BK who decides if Swain has tougher schedule? How can anyone know until season is over and see how teams played do in playoffs? SOS bothers me because it’s an opinion. Yeah we might can guess who has tougher schedule but we really don’t know. And ER usually pretty high in such “rankings” doesn’t me that I, personally, like it. SOS is subjective much like any rankings.
Well then you're in stuff like an AP or coaches pole people's opinions even though winning last year may mean nothing a high school could have graduated all their best players since last year everybody should start on equal ground on new year.
Thing is once seeding starts teams that win their conference are seeded first even over teams that maybe ranked higher but in another conference.
Simmons is an interesting read and works hard at it. I have always thought his rankings were often to create conversation keeping him on radar. Still not sure why he said projections of brackets were useless? Oh well 😀
TD I kinda understand your frustration but the numbers say differently. Rankings would often be that way but RPI is just pure numbers. ER has same record this year as last, with only loss once again to highly ranked/RPI 3A Eastern Alamance. Yet they are currently fourth in RPI and ranked lower than that in several others. Using your logic ER should be what second? I’m not picking on you at all and hope it doesn’t come across that way. Just talking about numbers.
@Old Mountaineer put this over on 2A forum. @Sportscribe tried to explain it to them but they just can’t get a hold on it. I tried, with my humble country way, but I’m getting frustrated 😂
MaxPreps has MA #1 because their system has MA as the best. That has nothing to do with maxpreps sos ranking. Two different things.
Yes you can see the rpi. So basically as long as YOU can see it then it doesn't matter how off it is?
So the owp+oowp= sos then why is MA ranked so high in owp+oowp? Because rpi doesn't rank SOS but instead it goes by records which is flawed.
No way we continue with this system.
It's been used enough now that most can see it's off.
I personally think it should be MA then Rville.

And no I don't think we should ever use last year's results to determine this year. That's would be worse than the RPI.

I don't care what rpi or owp is how is going to feel when you get your tail kicked by number 4 or 3 team I don't care where it be at our house or your's you all in west just keep adding those numbers it don't matter
All I hear is BK talking about how far down Mount Airy should be and how good Robbinsville and Swain are. I tell you like this we play whoever is on our schedule and we don’t just beat them we destroy them and our starters have played past halftime one time all year and that was against starmount which we ended up winning by 32. Mount Airy could play any team on any of you alls schedule you keep bragging about and win except for maybe Rueben Gap. I M not sure they couldn’t win that game as well but would be tough. So we will finish taking care of business in the regular season and then wheeeever we fall in seeding we will be glad to face anyone whether it be home or away. Just be careful what you ask for because I wouldn’t be wanting the bears headed to your stadium especially after hearing all that bragging about how tough you all are and how weak mount airy is. I hope everyone stays healthy the last two weeks so there is no excuses when you have to walk the walk to back up all that bragging. We coming starting in 3 weeks so buckle that chin strap up because it will be time to “HIT SOMEBODY”!!!!!!! They can take that rpi and shove it lol
That’s because each of those ranking systems has their own formula for strength of schedule. No one can explain it because they keep it secret. Mountaineer did explain RPI formula back up a few posts exactly as NCHSAA handbook.

I have MA ranked #1 all year. This has nothing to do with that. All we are trying to figure out is this crazy system but you MA guys get up in arms about something that doesn't have anything to do with what we are talking about.

Keep living in the past BK when it was mainly the mountain teams because the teams down here were 2A and even 3a some years when you all were winning all those titles. You keep feeling good and I hope you all are #1 so you can make it to see that ass whipping coming to the Big Oaks. Smash mouth football died years ago and I guess that is why other than Mitchell there has been no mountain boys in championship game in last 7 years. You will find out very soon and then you can get on the wrestling band wagon
We damn sure are not scared of them, we might lose but they will know they weee in a fight a heck of a lot more than with Robbinsville. You will get to see that in the very near future.
