Rico Dowdle! I hate that I miss this young man in person versus Shelby earlier in the season, but I occasionally watch his Hudl, and I have definitely kept an eye on him throughout the season. No one has stopped him or even come close. I'm surprised that he's not a bigger recruit, though, a nationwide recruit. Rico Dowdle is a freakish athlete, the best football player in the state, in my opinion.

His game last night versus Ashbrook.
282 yards rushing, 146 passing, 7 tds

Yeah so much he didn't make the shrine bowl!!! He is a machine
He didn't go to a combine. His coach explained this. No combine= no Shrine Bowl. He is the best athlete this year in football. I got to see him against a very good Shelby defense and he was outstanding.

hey I think Dowdle is a terrific player. By far the best player in WNC. He certainly destroyed my crappy team this year. However, keep in mind he is the entire Reynolds team. He has about 75 percent of their teams offensive yards. Sometimes its like they don't let anybody else touch the ball offensively. I think its just a little blown out of proportion to say a guy who didn't make the shrine bowl is the best player in the entire state. I'm sorry if it sounds like im hating but my god...according to 247sports.com Dowdle isn't in the top 83 recruits in the 2016 class in NC. Are they hating too?

Lol that is the dumbest post I have ever read. They have guys on there that don't even have d1 offers. States qb commit is rated number 38 on there and he is not half the player Rico is. Lol don't let your jealousy blind you.

I think he's a phenomenal football player but I don't think he's the best player in all of North Carolina.

Do y'all think some big time teams will swoop in and offer dowdle soon? I ask in all sincerity. I really think he's the best skill player to come out of WNC since Johnny white and Crezdon butler. I didnt mean to sound like a dick because nobody in the state is more important to their team than dowdle.

It's all good, man, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I read where NC State offered him a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure that he's on the radar of a few schools. You cats up that way would know of his situation better than me, though.

I agree with Rico being the best player in the state, the numbers don't lie. He can make anyone look foolish. Johnny white and crezdon butler may have been better, but they didn't dominate like Rico is doing, mainly because they split time with another, 60 TDs in a year I don't care who you are playing is an achievement.

Here is my question though. The powers that be that select the NC shrine bowl roster would completely ignore Rico's accomplishments this season all because he didn't attend one combine? I don't get it.

The Osborne kid from Hough is the best pure athlete I've seen all year. Tennessee is getting a monster

Player rankings on recruit sites are only as good as combines. That is where these kids get seen and compared to the best. Same goes with the Shrine Bowl.

It's evident Rico didn't attend much if any, so I couldnt care less about it. What I do care about are numbers, and the numbers don't lie. Rico has done it again and again against some of the best in the state.

They have the running back from Forestville who is going to Syracuse rated the 23rd player in the state. He couldn't even get 70 yards on West henderson. Those rankings don't mean squat. .
He is not even top 100 NC

Let me make this simple for you and everybody. I saw the best player in all of North Carolina play last year. He was Josh Ladowski of Lake Norman. Hal Capps never even gave him a wink and he was 5 miles from his school. He set a record for all purpose single season yards for North Carolina last year.

The year before he was basically all world. The kid threw the ball further than any high school kid I have ever seen. But Hal Capps the Shrine coach never gave him sniff. Ladowski had committed to play baseball at Carolina the year before and never attended a combine.

He was named the Gator Aid North Carolina Player of the Year directly after the season and all state. But didn't get a sniff. Then people began talking about his exclusion from the team and someone had to bow out of the game and he was added. He also scored in the game. And he was Shrine Bowl Coach Hal Capps in conference opponent that defeated his undefeated team. This is how shit goes in NC.

I don't know how many all purpose yards Rico Dowdle has. I don't know how many touchdowns he'll end up with. I don't know his 40 time. I don't know how many semi trucks he can pull with his teeth. I don't know how long his johnson is or how much he can lift with it. I do know he's the best football player I've seen in North Carolina in many, many years. As I said a few weeks ago when he embarrassed my Cougars in a rout at Reynolds, what impressed me more than his athletic abilities was his humble nature and "yes sir" and "no sir" answers to the after game interview. The kid is special and I see great things for him in the future.

That was some funny stuff Cougar. You are the man. Johnson can lift, LMAO.

I said after he kicked our ass "I wish I could hate the guy but he seems like a very respectful kid. Everything was about his teammates".

I have seen several of the top teams in the state this year and haven't seen anyone that really even comes close to what I saw him do. I also work with a guy that has gone to several Byrnes games in SC and says to this day that he hasn't seen an athlete even close to what Rico has. Granted we only saw him play against Shelby, but I have seen Shelby play a few times this year and no team has matched what he did.

Big, strong and crazy fast. I wish the Heels would have gone after him, he could add to that potent offense over the next couple years.

The reason he didn't make the shrine bowl is because he didn't attend any combines and although he had a solid year as a junior, he wasn't really being talked about in the offseason as a big time recruit. I don't know if I've ever seen a hs skill player improve so much in one year. He is without a doubt the best player in WNC and the best player in the mountains since Johnny White and Crezdon Butler. Is he the best player in the state? Idk. I had the chance to see Surrat from east Lincoln a few weeks ago and he is pretty special too.

are you talking about the same Crezdon Butler that played for Asheville high that deflected a 2 point conversion pass today with less than a minute to go against Aaron Rodgers at Lambeau field that protected the Lions first win there since 1991?

He's on Notre Dame's radar, would not be surprised if they offered him at some point after his senior season film is evaluated

I am cougar1. I think he is the best skill player in WNC SINCE Crezdon and Johnny
I agree 100 percent with that. Without a doubt the best skill position player since those 2 10 years ago. I saw that the state of North Carolina has only 1 FIVE star recruit. That was surprising
