T. W. Andrews....

....will be the weakest number 1 seed.

1. Their opponents combined record right now is 34-46.

2. They have only beaten 2 teams with a winning record: Private school ravenscroft and reidsville who is having a down year.

3. They are the only team in their conference with a winning record.

4. If you listen to their fans, they are winning on talent pool alone.

Thoughts?

That High Point Central win was a good win too, despite their record. Reidsville is having a down year, but still a decent team. Ravenscroth is probably a pretty good team as well. In their conference Randleman is a ok team. Hpa is a threat to win it all. I'd have to see a bracket to pick how far they'd go though.

People said the same thing when we won state in 2013. I dont think there good enough to win state but I think they make at least the 3rd round of the playoffs. While your at it have you listed all of the other top ranked teams opponents records?

As far as Shelby , They have played and beaten 5 3A schools and their combined W/L is 34-11 and have played and beaten 4 2A teams with a combined W/L is 15-21 . Still has to play 1 2A school (5-5) And 1 3A school (Crest 9-0) . Combined records we have already played is 49-32 . Shelby has beaten 5 teams with winning records , 3A Freedom 8-1, 3A AC Reynolds 8-1 , 3A South Point 7-2 , 3A Kings Mountain 8-2 and 2A East Burke 5-4 ..What makes Shelby record more impressive is since week 2 we started having injuries and at one time was missing 9 starters .
East Lincoln opponents to date are 28-43 and that is without Q Foundation added . I don't think the Q won a game or not but cant find their record . East still has to play 2 teams , both with winning records .
Clinton opponents are 32-37 and Kinston opponents are 32-50
Monroe opponents so far is 38-42 with 1 team with a winning record left for them to play.
Maiden opponents are so far is 34-39 and they still have to play East Lincoln and Lincolnton .
You can not always go by W/L records from any team to determine how good they are . When it comes down to playoffs , you are playing your size of school . On any given night any team can get beaten . Strength of schedules in my opinion does make you more prepared for the playoffs . Shelby playing all 3A non conference opponents and plays in a 3A/2A split conference with 3 3A schools helps them prepare for the 2A playoffs and so far has paid off .

It's not our fault some of our opponents are having a down year. You set the schedule then you play the game. Every year we play at least three 4A schools (rivals SW Guilford and HP Central and one of the Greensboro schools) and other top 2A schools (Carver, Thomasville, Reidsville, Cummings in recent years) if our schedules mesh. I don't think many other 2A schools would schedule that many 4A schools on top of the other out of conference games. If you think Andrews is a weak team then ask anybody we've played and see what their response is. You have to beat whoever you play. The proof is on the field, ultimately. I know we can can line up and win against any other teams in 2A, 3A, and most of 4A.

Nobody has come close to the schedule Shelby will have played. The even with the two stinkers in their conference. To beat teams with two of the backs in the whole state is impressive. Two weeks from now the whole state will be monitoring the results of #1 3A ranked Crest vs #1 2A ranked Shelby.

In my opinion if adding TW Andrews, the west is absolutely slammed with top programs this year. Little has been said about Lincolnton but they are a very good and highly physical team. Their size and speed is being overlooked.

Shelby will wins states in 2A everyone else will be fighting for runner up. East Lincoln will win it in 2AA with everyone else fighting for runner up imo

I hope Andrews goes West, would give Northeastern at least a chance of playing Thanksgiving weekend

Interesting thread to say the least. Regardless, you've done a little homework but not enough. You mention combined record of teams we have played. I encourage you to look at those teams on an individual basis and look at who they've played. Example, HP Central is a solid 4A team that is one game under .500 however they are 2nd in their league which is a very tough 4A league. According to Simmons ratings, they have the #1 schedule in all of 4a. They have some nice wins and have lost to teams that are among the best in the 4a class. If you are looking at it from a 2a perspective , HP central would be a top 10 2A team and they lost to Andrews 48-6. The argument that Reidsville is down is weak. They aren't the reidsville state title contender but they are still a top 15 2a team so they are no slouch. Andrews also thumped them. Look at Cummings for example, despite being 2-7, look at who they've lost to with the 6th toughest schedule in 2a (Andrews, Reidsville, western almanace and eastern Alamance). Cummings is a solid 2a team. Kudos to some of these teams for playing tough schedules. A lot of folks at this point in the season sit undefeated or with 1 or 2 losses who are a complete joke and no shot of making it out of the first round in the playoffs. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't think Andrews will win a state title this year as their qb play isn't strong enough and I they can play undisciplined and lackadaisical sometimes. In saying that though, if they get a good draw they could make a run and steal a title from somebody.

Kudos to golden one for pointing out the combined record of some of the others too programs. Looks like Andrews schedule is a lot tougher than some of those folks for sure. I encourage you to get on simmons ratings website and check out strength of schedule for all the top teams. Can still be misleading but generally a good barometer. Why no thread on East Lincoln? With Chaz they are a stout team but frankly they haven't had to buckle their pads much this year against the empty jerseys they have played on most nights. Doesn't mean they aren't a threat to win a title because I think they are but nonetheless, using the same metric you used for Andrews, it makes them look like Swiss cheese.

Overlook Andrews, E Lincoln, Washington, Northeastern, Carver, Reidsville, etc. I'm sure they won't mind sending some teams with a better combined opponent record home feeling a little butt hurt come playoff time.

Stanimallector not even Clinton will contest with these guys both Shelby and East Lincoln (Depending on where everyone goes)? Just asking because I see Clinton coming out of the east for 2A or 2AA again based on where they go come playoff time

Is Chaz going to play basketball as well at UNC?
Yes. Part of the decision for him to decommitt to Duke was UNC is giving him a preferred walkon in basketball. Carolina gets good basketball player without a loss of a scholarship. His brother could possibly follow him in a year to Carolina as well.

Godevilsgo, you coming to the Shelby vs Crest game?
No way. I'm going to see 1-4 in the conference Newton play currently overall 1-8 Bandys. How could I miss such a big game? LOL

Yes I am. I'm not missing this one unless an emergency comes up. I spoke to about six Newton-Conover fans last week that are coming as well. I have met quite few Crest fans who post. I have a few friends in this county who played for Shelby.

Sounds good. Do you see Beam hanging around or moving on?

I'll agree with the play of the qb we want go to far in play-off . Bailey just don't have it. The beginning of the game last week he fumble twice and slip down twice. The second string qb is better( #2 Jordan Rogers), but they don't see it. The same with Ranard ( won state in 2013), he had to wait untill his JR and SR year to play even though he was better than the qb we had then.

Bailey is better than Rogers, Rogers is a solid db and takes snaps in a blowout or if Bailey is hurt. There both seniors so I have no idea who will be the qb next year.

After getting the Richmond job and then turning it down I think it depends on what jobs are open. Unfortunately Beam has not won a game in two years over a team with a winning record.

Damn shame EL probably won't have to play Shelby. Weak schedule....I'd love to end that winning streak against weak teams.

I am at practce every day and we on the sideline all agree Rogers is better. Bailey has no athletic ability at all, also one slowest players on the team. By the way we have a qb on JV who is 6'4" and can really pass. Will move up in play-off

Rogers is more athletic there's not doubting that but can he throw the ball? is the jv kid a freshman or soph?

The JV kid is a freshman. Roger can throw, unlike Baily who has the see the Player open and then throw. Rogers anticpate the move of the receiver and throws on time.

I definitely agree that our QB play isn't our strongest suit at this point, however, the Willis kid is who is under center so it's pointless at this point in the season to expect or even discuss an alternative/change. we all just have to hope he doesn't do anything to lose us a game and gets the ball to the right people in the backfield and on the edge for us to be successful. as long as he doesn't turn the ball over, we will be fine.

I know it did not have any effect on the outcome of the game Friday but HARRYT what did you think of the TD call on the pass in end zone that was juggled out the back? I wasn't sure if I saw it right but there is a video of the play on MYRANDOLPHSPORTS showing there never was control. Funny part was refs got together and still said it was a catch.

The ref's were out of position , all they saw was from the recever back, did not see all the juggling

Agreed back judge couldn't see because he was behind receiver but side judge had same view I did and no way he could have said the young man caught it. Oh and like I said in another thread the pep band was the most dominant force on the field Friday night.

with fans like these in the bleachers(i hope harry is not a coach posting or that andrews lets their fans on the sidelines), who needs enemies? the two games i saw, number 1 had a pretty good games.

But, I do understand what you are saying, win/loss numbers do not always show a true story. I would be careful counting my rams as a statement win this year....that game we gave up before halftime and lost control at the end of the game.

Anybody with a clue knows the Rams caved under the circumstances that night and it snowballed. Immediately after the game while Reidsville fans were in meltdown mode, most Andrews posters acknowledged that although Andrews was better, they aren't 42 points or whatever it was better than Reidsville. Good luck to the Rams the rest of the way.

Looking back on it Andrews is definitely the best team the rams played. Andrews would still blow the rams out in a rematch.
