State Legislature

Also saw where the lawmakers can now decide for themselves what's public information and what is not, therefore allowing them to do whatever they want without worrying about those actions making it out to the public???? In addition, giving almost complete power to something called a GovOps Committee to where they could avoid warrants while investigating state/local agencies, private companies and charities. GOP or Dem I am not sure this is the direction we want our government to go.

I clearly lean one way in politics, but in Raleigh, it doesn’t matter. Both parties do nothing in the interest of the general public.

The leader of the State senate doesn’t care too much for public education and is big into charter schools even for his grandchildren. Now he is pushing for Casinos and big developments in his home area against the people’s wishes and getting paid for his efforts. The people in the area thank he is the man.

Sadly people are so loyal to their party(both sides) he will keep getting elected even if he rasied taxes on Rockingham County citizens by 25%, called them trash, and spit in their face.

He may be the worst human being in the state.

The whole casino debacle has been an extremely bad look for him and his party. I feel like he's going scorched earth since he didn't get his way.

I am in Rockingham County. Our County Commissioners made a "secret" trip to Maryland to be wined and dined by the casino group and then tried to hide their expenses and the trip before voting to rezone land on US220 ( soon to be I-73) for the casino.

Both Sen Berger and the County Commissioners are toxic right now. One of the Commissioners is Sen Berger's son.

At least the House had the good sense to reject this behind the closed doors approach.

This is a separate issue from the legislation regarding the NCHSAA which has some good features that I think a lot of schools will like, assuming of course that people actually read the bill.

My thinking is since it was done overnight it was something they were trying to ram through last minute. I mean they held up the Budget for 3 months but needed to rush this in overnight? I've read an overview of the bill on High School OT. To me it sounds like a solution in search of a problem.

Look what the NCGA is doing to public schools. Do we really want this for sports.

Right now the Republican led NCGA isn't holding their mantra of small government and certainly through out their morals they claim to have with the casino debacle.

Agree 712, I'm unaffiliated and have voted for people in both parties in the past, however what I see the GOP led GA doing these days is asserting more governmental control and hiding laws in the budget to keep what they do out of sight of the public. I do not know if its true but I did see a couple articles last week on Charter Schools, and how they have non-profit status, but are actually owned by for-profit groups, and according to that information our public dollars are being funneled right thru the Charter Schools to these for-profit entities. I wonder how many of our politicians have their hands in these groups and are getting kickback somewhere down the road on these Charter Schools. They keep doing it and our HS Sports will suffer. Also dont like how they are banning books from Libraries just because the do not like the content. I assume its happening here in NC since they are doing it in other states. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be a teacher these days and have parents approving what you teach. That will be a nightmare and I personally do not believe our teachers are out there trying to teach our kids all the BS the GOP is saying they are. Sure, there may be a few somewhere who've done some crazy shit, but I dont believe the majority of our public school teachers do that, they are simply hard working women and men that put in many, many, many hours into our community schools they do not get credit for. Got more crazy ass parents out there than teachers IMHO :)

The Charter company based out of Florida has gave a lot of money to GOP campaigns that advocate for charters.
