Interesting read about NC teacher shortage

One solution: let retiring teachers come back into the classroom and “double dip”. The pay of those teachers goes up by however much their pension would be and it encourages them to keep working until they’re eligible for their full social security benefit.
In other words, teachers go out when they get 30 years (or turn 60) and then come right back in still making their full pay-and their pension. They get to push up their social security and NC gets to retain experienced teachers. The pension money is supposed to come from a different fund than the regular budget so it shouldn’t really cost more.
They’ve let retirees double dip in the past, so there’s a way to do this that the bureaucracy knows how to make work.

I’m not really political in one direction or another but it definitely appears the plan is working like it’s desired. As long as Republicans can maintain control, I believe the goal is to systematically dismantle public education. They want this system to die. The goal is to minimally value the teachers, aides so hopefully they don’t
stick around, at least not too long.
