Well next fri night will put an end to this long nightmare of a season. Since I wasn't at the UA game last night I really don't know what to say except we LOST. The margin was more that I could have imagined. As for SS they seemed to play NS pretty close for three quarters but lost it in the fourth. So we will either end up 3-7 with a win or 2-8 with a loss. With 2 wins can you opt out of the playoffs. Not sure how that works but might be something to consider. I am throught blasting Smith so I will just let the season speak for itself. I would really hate for these kids to have to go to Robbinsville or Murphy and get humillated. So I will be there next fri night to support the dogs in their last home game of the 2015 season. Can only hope we can turn things around next year and get some "Bulldog Pride" back.

Atkins was 4-7 last year and opted out. They said their roster was depleted and they only had about 14 kids left.

In the words of a former coach " The sun came up this morning" , but to me it sure seems brighter after a win. I've heard it said that you have to hit rock bottom to appreciate what you have had in the past. Well after loses to North Stanly and two schools you have never lost to I think we are there. Hopefully they will rebound and play better next week against a much improved South team.

I can appreciate your disdain for this season, BUT teams that opt out of the playoffs for any reason other than financial/ injuries is complete BS. Especially Albemarle who humiliated teams for years. Also, underclassmen who can gain experience for next year against stiff competition .

I love Albemarle, I could care less about those coaches and if they opted out, that would bring a smile to my face.

No pride, no coaching..... no nothing. They gave up last night and I didn't have to go to the game to say that. Since when does UA drop 40 on Albemarle in football?

I feel sorry for everyone involved in Albemarle athletics and I'm thinking about writing a book called "What's it like to lose".

Anyway. South Stanly 35 Albemarle 8.

Wow. How the mighty have fallen. What is in the water in Albemarle. They used to simply crush and run the score up on teams whenever they could. Its weird to see them not compete.

Generally agree with this, although IMO there's something wrong with a system that lets a 2-8 team in the playoffs in the first place. I still prefer the old four-classification system, even though it left a lot of great teams out of the postseason.

100000000000% agree with you, but if you get in ( regardless of the system) you should play.

Also more games = more $$$$$, it will never go back to the old/right way

A 2-8 team will not make the playoffs anymore. There was a rule change where a team must have a certain winning percentage, which essentially means a team needs at least 4 wins to be eligible.

Thanks, good to know. I don't do a good job keeping track of the rules. I assume this means AHS is already eliminated.

I'm not sure if it applies to 1A because of the number of schools in that division.

I think that percentage rule only applies to split conferences. Without that rule if there was a conference with only 2 1A teams in the split conference, it would be possible for a one win team to be a "conference champion" and get a really high seed by only beating the other 1A team in that conference, There has always been 1 and 2 win teams in 1A.

The NCHSAA approached the 1A schools before last football season with a proposed change. First one was to go to four rounds which would cut out half the teams making the playoffs. 1A would play their title games the week before the other three classifications.

The reasoning from the NCHSAA was to allow for more focus on 1A the Saturday before the other classifications as the 1A schools feel they are overshadowed and do not get the attention they should. They could look at smaller venues that would be more conducive to the atmosphere (all classes need that). Cut down on the huge travel in the first round for lower seeds. Help the winter sports, both teams and athletes, by getting them onto those sports a week earlier.

Overwhelming negative feedback. The next proposal was to have the top 16 teams in each sub-class get a bye. Not interested.

Reasoning from the 1A schools was that it was not fair to them to have less teams make the playoffs and was not right to play the week before. The schools/coaches felt it was not right to treat them different than the other classifications. This coming from the group that pushed for sub-divided playoffs, the eight quarter rule, and the pod system.

Great Info!

We used to average playing 15 games a year. You don't get experience like that with 11 games. We have again become a Basketball School
