Way too early and I don't expect a lot of comments but the few we may get is Maiden Maiden Maiden with Lincolnton and EL taking 2nd and 3rd or vice versa and the rest up for grabs. Bandys would usually be at the top and with the athletes they always seem to bring out very well could be. Cant coach speed and strength is either natural or improved on. With popular coach Nick Bazzel taking the helm at North Lincoln one would think maybe they'll be a top three finish, but most likely not this year. I plan on making one for Hibriten's conference but as with this one and that one, the comments are on you guys cause I'm just a tri county area spectator that jumps around to different games depending on the hype, what's at stake, and of course close to even matched or upset potential.

1. Maiden- they're Maiden, they lose seniors and still surprise. Early sweet 16 pick in Charlotte Observer, fantastic JV team last year, i'd give em this pick.

2. Lincolnton- always a class act, always athletes everyone says that about every year as far as the athletes. Some down years but never stay down. Will pull ahead in the EL/Lincolnton series, or should anyway.

3. EL- benefit of the doubt kinda team. Putting them ahead of N-C due to new coach and people leaving at Newton.

4. Bandys- Started to put them below Newton but this school has potential. I could be dead wrong and have been in the past in my early pickins'

5. Newton- like was already mentioned, new coach, people leaving, drama going on im sure that I don't care to know but I see them bouncing back. Pack has better athletes to work with so we'll see what happens. May surprise people and be top 3 but I'm going with 5 for right now.

6.North Lincoln- decent JV's last year, great D1 RB in Cribb, maybe a couple surprise and improved players out to avenge a bad season. Needs a QB so expect a lot of ground and pound. Defense way too porous last year, coulda won 3 to 4 more games that were reasonably close and winnable. Nick Bazzel may surprise but will have a tall order. Could finish 4th at VERY best.

7. LNC- the athletes are there, but with the factors I forsee for rest of conf and last years finish they go here.

8. WL- out on a limb on this one giving LNC benefit of the doubt. 2 great RB's last year, don't know if they graduated or not.

Could it finish in this order, most likely yes but that's why we play the game. Lets have some fun with this guys, fill in.

i do think NC bounces back and we could see it be

lincolnton
maiden
NC
EL
NL
bandys
LNC
WL

Can’t sleep on West lincoln, they return two running backs that each had 1000 yards I think.

1-2. Winner of Lincolnton/EL will win the conference
3. Maiden
4. WL
5. NC
6. NL
7. Bandys
8. LNC

Lincolnton-East Lincoln are the top dogs with Maiden close by. 4-7 will be a fight between Newton-Conover, Bandys, West Lincoln and North Lincoln. Lake Norman Charter should finish last.

If the Williams kid stays at North I see them finishing at 4. He is that good. I haven't heard anything lately about if he's staying or going though

Is the Williams kid the risIng freshman running back y’all are talking about or a current player?

Bout time I got some interest in my no dog in the fight but I post anyway post ha ha.

Well guys seems y’all have high hopes in Lincolnton or East when Maiden was picked to win it all(conference wise) in the early sweet 16. Of course we can’t always depend on that or go by last years JV teams but it is Maiden. Sometimes good JV teams from year before can translate and at North they have a couple times. Not sayin anything in a name (Maiden) but you get the picture. Also some seem to have high hopes in WL seems like. 2 good rushers yes and they’re coming back. But what surrounding cast does WL have going for em? IDK that’s why I’m asking lol. I don’t really know.

North has Cribb and Sorrus but without big Hogs blocking or a QB or soild defense not sure how well they’ll pan out as a team. Not saying they won’t have a decent QB maybe someone was and is groomed and ready. Same with WL as to how well they may pan out. Those are just thoughts I kept when I came up with top to bottom finish predictions.

East was young last year so I imagine they’ll be tuned up more. Not in a state run kinda way but better than last year.

Bandys have any of that blazing speed returning or some D1 attention grabbers?

Last question I got bout the Williams kid is when will we know we’re he lands and how’s any of the 7 on 7s been going for any of the teams?

How many times has the Charlotte Observer been wrong?

For general news I’d say not much. Idk, I don’t read em like I used to. The sweet 16 picks as far as maybe a couple teams in long past we’re way off. Just talking bout a couple instances, not in general.

Good while back sweet 16 (for ‘11) had Hibriten at number 14 or 15 only because of the big run year before. We all knew that wouldn’t hold. And couple years before that they had East Burke at 15 or 16. I def knew that wasn’t holding ha ha. So them having Maiden on there I wouldn’t credit it or discredit it but if they’re giving them that much value I’d at least take my chance at them finishing conf champs. Could i be wrong- oh absolutely.

the rising freshman. I have heard he is coming to Lincolnton or going to East.

Well that sucks. I figured if Bazzel was on the scene and the community coming out with big support for his arrival that that would spark his interest in North. The Pumpkin Center gang just can’t catch a break. I’d say they was lucky to have had Trent Hopkins.

It isn't set in stone yet but thats just what I've been hearing. If he stays at North if I were Bazzle running the option I would consider putting the kid at qb with Cribb at running back or fullback.

If it’s what you’ve heard then it’s prob true. Having him at QB would be a killer idea with that kinda offense.
Was wondering why you had WL picked to take 4. They must have some players I don’t know about other than the two RBs

It isn't so much what they have but what the teams I listed below don't have. NC's run defense is terrible and unless that gets fixed I don't think the speed advantage will be enough to beat West with the backs they have. As for North I just see West winning that one for no particular reason.

That run defense done a number on Hibriten last year.....for some dang reason for a while lol. They musta slacked off after that game. Holding Gee Witherspoon to limited numbers had to have been a crazy task.

North found ways to lose games last year. They were way better than what the record showed but like we all know- that defense couldn’t stop a pee wee team from scoring and this year you may be right, they won’t stop those 2 RBs from West. Hopefully defense better with some last years JV additions.

I think the Sweet 16 is biased sometimes based on the year before. I don't think Maiden will be as strong as last year although they still could win the conference.

That’s what u was sorta saying year before. Of course some teams stay on there all the time like Catholic, Mallard Creek, Butler, etc. West Charlotte was top 5 for 20 some years straight or more but with new schools those days are shot ha ha. Getting old man, we getting old.

Ok, I re-read your comment and I agree with you.

to me maiden always gets over hyped yes maiden is good, but they have major holes that teams will expose will they finish top 4 more then likely. i think west lincoln and LNC will battle for last, NL could be the suprise here, bazzle has the tools to turn things around at NL but it wont be over night, NC right now is licking wounds from all the drama and kids transfering just so they can play ball pack could lead them to possibly a top 4 in conference imma say they finish 8-4 or 7-5. bandys is a wildcard cause ive heard nothing about this years squad anyway you put it

DANG IT IM JUST READY FOR FOOTBALL

I been ready man. Problem is I work nights and alternate wkends so it’s hit miss for me.
Last year I thought Newton was the real deal when they went down to the wire with Hibriten. Or I thought that after that game anyway. From what some students from Newton at a track meet said they’re gonna be hurting. That come from players themselves ha ha. But when practices start and hype starts generally alot of teams and coaches will begin to think they look good before they play their first game so we’ll see how Newton fairs out. If North is gonna rise above the ashes and bring back the Beam glory years which was only about 3 years they will have to rely on Bazzles good coaching decisions and some of last years JV standouts to really step up this year. Losing some linemen and a QB to graduation ain’t helping the cause but we’ll see. If West has blockers they’ll be ok. The good rushing attack returns for them this year.

I’m surprised there isn’t more Newton and Maiden fans on here. I’m scratching my head on that one. They’ve prob read the post and are playing it cool that’s what’s up ha ha.

So Maiden JVs finished first last year, who finished 2nd 3rd and so on? Just curious as to what we can gage the finish’s off of if anyone wants to guess reguess the conference finishes.

Well, this tread died fast. Anyone got info on any conf teams from jamborees’, scrimmages 7on7s?

Heard that Lincolnton got a big lineman from Newton yesterday

Hence the mass exodus from Newton area. Didn’t hear bout that. This is sorta like a band breaking up and people having solo careers ha ha. What has Steve Pack walked into there at Newton?

A dumpster fire!

Sounds like it. I know soild programs can lose pretty much a whole team to graduation and still go deep next year fully reloaded. Mallard Creek and Catholic lol. But don’t see that with Newton, but watch em still beat North Lincoln and West Lincoln and even Bandys dispite the shape their in. I hope I’m wrong bout the NL part cause it’s time for a turnaround there and if they do it, this will have to be the year.

Scrimmage time is ticks away folks, any word on how some teams are looking from a month ago til now and biggest question is were did that RB decide to go - North, Lincolnton, or East?

Man you can win at Newton but Beam really didn't do anything to help. The kids gotta have a trust with the coach and they aint had it. I would've got Bazzle back to get things back on track but it is what it is. Talent has been and always will be at Newton but if they don't get it together the surrounding areas will benefit.

Haven't heard anything so I assume he's still at North

Be our luck he won’t be but I’m hopeful. They need a super talent that hasn’t been there since 06’. In 07’ I believe they was just ONE big body power full back away from going 4th round and giving Shelby a game. That extra 2 yards when you need it makes a world of difference and that’s what made the difference with East Burke in 07’ (Shatley).

That being said everyone with any football sense of the local area teams woulda automatically assumed Beam had it in the bag at Newton since he done so well with less at NL. Still a good coach in my book.

He's good when he's invested but I can't say that he was at Newton. You can win a few games at North but you gotta have the right coach to motivate the kids with the talent pool they have. But honestly North always loses guys to EL and Lincolnton because of how close the line is in certain areas. If you wanna win you go to either of those two.

So true when it comes to football and the district lines are paper thin. As good as North has gotten in the small sports you kinda wonder if theyre getting some East and Lincolnton people for those sports.

They get too much of that going on like area people have said in forums past for example kids coming over cause they like the marching band etc the numbers will slip back over the hump and they’ll be right back in the 3A lol

With the transfer rule as it is now It's difficult to expect a talent like the Williams kid to stay at North Lincoln with the lack of stability in their program...3 different coaches in 3 years. If he is not at Lincolnton or EL this football season I expect him to at one of those places next year.

I'm a little surprised to see how many folks are picking WL last in the conference. They have most of their players returning including their two running backs and QB. I think they will end up in the middle of the pack in the conference (4th or 5th). Their QB actually has a good arm....but they don't let him throw it enough in their run orientated attack. If they they would they might could finish higher.

Does anyone know which school the Williams kid choose? They’re preparing for scrimmages and whatnot so he has to be suiting up somewere?

If they have THAT many returning they should compete for at least 3rd. Them and North should be a down to the wire game if both teams got some good guys returning

He is still at North planning to 8 quarter this year

This is the freshman running back or someone else? Glad he’s staying, they need all the help they can get. Bazzel must be having a big impact on the school and the community.
