SMC Tournament

That's if they don't go your way bdfan! That would make my day!!
LOL it would make my day too, Hayesville has a couple of absurd individual athletes in McClure and McTaggart, I would be beyond ecstatic for either one to end up in black and gold.

Fine, it is your opinion. I have great respect for him. One thing I would like to point out is that no HHS player received a technical foul. He was in control of his team. Can Andrews say the same for that night? No.
I figured we would move on by now but here we are. How was he in control of his team when he was out of control himself !!!! Lol. And for the sake of peace you say no technical so we will go with that. Technical foul - Intentional foul lol

I sure hope he stays. Been winning for 20 years here and about 14 of those years were without his sons on the team!!

And I restate what I said earlier. Anyone from Andrews calling out another coach, considering the feelings toward Andrews current coach is the pot calling the kettle black! RITFLMAO
And I remember that quote and it didn’t bother me because everyone on here has a opinion. That’s why we come here. But I’ve really struck a nerve for most of the Hayesville fans on here to keep this going for now the third day. We can let it go or we can keep going.

Well seeing how the McClure kid has his dad, uncle, and grandfather coaching at Hayesville, I seriously doubt you will ever see him at Murphy.

It's ok Wildcat they also thought the water bottle being thrown was funny only because it was thrown at ref,but our kids were on the court and the woman stayed in gym. Wrong is wrong just like I stated earlier, no matter if home team or away team. I'm not going to stick up for bad behavior from either team period. When you promote that type of behavior like Wildcat said earlier it shows no class.
I find it hard to believe that any school would promote throwing water bottles at officials.

Yes, I guess we are on it for the third day. Funny you seem to think it is us that stay on this but if I recall correctly, didn’t you post pretty much the same thing months ago early in the season? So now I ask who didn’t let it go?

I don’t recall if I did or not but thank you for taking interest in my posts. I was thinking we could move on but I guess I really struck a nerve. Anyway, Coach I want to applaud you for doing the right thing and taking the stats down that you had for just one player. You might want to go back and do the same for last year seeing it was the same.

Actual I am not a Jacket coach. Funny, you seem very interested in Jacket basketball? Why? As for the stat thing you are hung up on it is simple- some coaches don’t provide in depth info on their team’s strengths and weaknesses. Why list one or two players selected stats? A team may have players that may receive honors on a district, regional or state level. Many voters for these awards turn to Maxpreps to view player’s achievements. Therefore it becomes a necessary evil. Does this make sense?

Lol. That was took all wrong the water bottle was thrown at the ref and not a kid. That parent was also not allowed back either. Then again no different than the parents sitting right above our kidson the bench and running their mouth. But either way no need in that type behavior period and shouldn’t be tolerated by either team.
Here you go HSG this was the response. I promise I did not make this up. Water bottle was thrown on the court at a ref , but the woman had terrible aim and almost hit one of our kids. No one was escorted out.

Your not a coach ! I apologize. I took when you came back with the response in 45 minutes that you had just watched the game footage that you was a coach, since you had immediate access to the game footage from last year. I really don’t have a hang up on any of this but when people want to keep the debate going I try to look at any facts I might be able to find. Actually I have scouted all the teams by looking at MaxPreps scores and stats and I have done that for years. It’s not just Hayesville I assure you. I understand everything thing your saying but I agree with it. It’s nothing to me when I stumbled across it last year I just found it disrespectful not to have all the players stats posted because I would think other players had aspirations of going on to play at the next level even if it was a a D-2, D-3 or JUCO level. Anything that can be posted to help other athletes get noticed will help their chances. I know this for a fact because my two children went on to play and basically I used ever recruiting site I could find and they all wanted any and all stats, game videos etc that we could provide. This also helps I would think when it comes time for the Blue-White All Star Games and the East-West game. All the parents I talked to previous to my kids finishing HS told me that I was pretty much on my on when it came to recruiting because local coaches or AD’s just don’t help much. So do you see what I’m saying. I would think it to be important for all the athletes to have their stats out their. I’m sure your coach did everything he possibly could to keep his kids names out there including the Asheville Citizen HS Huddle. I totally understand and did all I could for mine and I think it would only be fair to the other athletes at HHS

In all honesty if it wasn’t for the “Cottrell” legacy, young Cottrell might not have had the interest he’s gotten. Don’t get me wrong this kid is a phenomenal shooter and doesn’t have a great team around him. All I’m saying I’ve seen plenty quality shooters in this conference and D-1 is almost a distant option. McMillan from Cherokee wasn’t offered til his senior year and other than a few inches, Cottrell share similar abilities but was offered his JR. year. I’m not bashing Cottrell just reiterating some concerns.

From what I’ve seen from watching even D-2 is not a sure option for our young men in our conference. Our top girls can play at D-2 but i’m sorry our top boy players in the conference would struggle just to get any playing time. They are great 1A players but the next level is bigger, stronger, faster and can shoot the lights out

Not a coach anymore, after 30+ years I gave it up due to my wife’s health. In all those years we have had several players have the opportunity to play at a higher level. Several things we did for players was contact schools for them, send out films, take our squads to team camps at schools they were interested in and finally encourage them to take care of things such as SAT scores, gpa and the clearing house. We also encouraged participation in prospect camps and AAU/travel teams. These are things that get students opportunities not stats on a site like maxpreps. Almost every college coach does not place alot of stock in stats. But coaches have to be careful if they recommend someone who can’t play at that level or doesn’t stay, then he loses credibility with that school and hurts the chances of later players. An example is a baseball player from Hayesville (many years ago) went to a school and got into a very heated argument with an assistant. He was dismissed from the team and the head coach never considered a player from Hayesville again.
FYI Blue-White and East-West games require a players coaches recommendation.

Those are great things your program do for your players. Not all schools do that but more are getting around to the AAU travel ball. Grades and SAT scores and clearing house is a must. I was also told the same thing from a former AD about losing credibility after recommending a athlete. But in my case and many other parents in our conference help was little to non existent and you have to start the process early in their HS career if you feel your child is capable of making to the next level. And this is for all sports not just basketball. Sorry about the Blue/White game as soon as I sent that I remembered you had to be recommended by your Coach but I was watching my Tarheels play and should have caught that

Appears cherokee really missed Day tonight?
It should've been a blowout but Cherokee missed several layups and easy shots under the basket in the first half. It also doesn't help that Murphy went into the double bonus in both halves while Cherokee barely got into the bonus either half. That old ref obviously had it out for our boys. He called a tech on Santa Maria for just dropping the ball on the baseline after a made basket. He called the initial warning because a player from Cherokee shot the ball after a foul was called and play was stopped. How is that a delay?? They hadn't even told the score table who the foul was on yet. And of course buck and Todd mason showed up to root against us.

Blowout? Nah, not hardly. Braves were up 10 in 3rd and could have put it away. Give the Dogs credit. They could have folded after going down 10, but they didnt. Ref was deplorable all the way around.

They're the best team in the conference behind the braves but instead of being up by 3 at halftime cherokee should have been up by 23 or more. That old ref must be the new Buck. Cherokee got the tech for touching the ball after the shot went thru but a Murphy player shot after the whistle one time and he turned a blind eye to that completely. From the sounds of it he needs to be the next one banned from the SMC

Todd has been there every night, both teams missed shots , both teams had horrible calls against them , yes him getting T for dropping the ball was terrible, but the Cherokee kid shooting birds to the crowd during the other technical foul shots, Not good .

I thought i saw that but didnt want to say anything because i wasnt positive. He had his hand hiding the one that was flipping off the crowd.

Todd takes pleasure in seeing Cherokee lose though. He always has. I didn't see the shooting birds but it's easy for kids to get emotional and lose their cool when you have "adult fans" saying things to them. Believe me Cherokee has their fair share of them too. That is one thing I can't stand is for an adult to sit up in the stands and say horrible things to a kid. No matter where the kid is from, an adult should never be addressing kids like that. I can't sit around certain people for Cherokee because they always have something to say to opposing players. We're supposed to be there to cheer for our kids not berate the opposing team.

Dr all state is a whole story to his self. He is awful every way possible . But anyway great crowd with emotion very high. Glad to see my braves pull out a close one. Sure did hold my breath on that last three.

Ain' gonna lie, when I came thru school I had an incident with swain and Andrews crowd where I acted in the same manner!! Good thing that EVERYBODY makes mistakes tho and nobody is exempt from makin them!! You may have not flipped a crowd off but you have made a mistake!! Not unless you have done received your glorified body or stay in tha spirit 24/7 then you can relate!!

I suppose sports wouldn't be near as much fun if everyone got along and you didn't develop a rooting interest, but Hayesville's coach is a good man. As far as the Maxpreps stuff, it is maybe a bad look, but there have been 8 or 9 kids who played for him that I can think of who went on to play in college--I would guess that is more than the rest of the league combined during that time--so I think the track record shows he doesn't only promote and look out for his own kids.

Wildcat your wrong on many things, college coaches couldn’t give a crap about the kind of stats a player is putting up at a 1a level. You may have children that have played at a higher level but guess what they don’t stick to it. Hayesville is about the only school that can claim a high level player that goes to the d-1 or d-2 level and actually plays for a whole career. Most give up pretty quickly, I know Andrews touted that Holloway girl as the next best thing and I cannot even find her on mars hills roster anymore.

She is on the track roster. Sometimes people want to still do multiple sports but narrow their focus once they get to campus. For what it's worth she was getting a good bit of playing time in hoops.

Well let me fill you in. First of all that’s my daughter and she left the team at Christmas break for many different reasons that we won’t get into here. My daughters biggest challenge was not her ability or competition but the load of trying to play 2 sports in college and juggle the classload of a Freshman. She was overwhelmed to say the least. Her stats were good and I believe she was the leading rebounder on the team at around 7 a game and averaged almost 6 points a game and was only playing around 15 minutes per game. She is on the Track team where she is currently doing the Indoor season and just broke the school record 3 meets into the year and both her and my son just qualified for the Indoor Championships in Winston Salem next week. After this they will start the Outdoor Track season. My daughter had over 100 colleges interested in her from all over including NC State and we even talked to one of the Track coaches from UNC at the 1A Track Championships where she won the State Title in Shot Put & Disc and my son finished 4th the year before at State. Her decision on going to MHU was to be close to home and to be at the same school as her brother. As I stated earlier getting recruited at Andrews was pretty much left up to the family to get contacts and keep their name out there. I talked to a parent from Murphy also who stated it was the same with his son. They pretty much did it on their on. You evidently have good support but don’t tell me I’ve got it all wrong because I went through it so I know what it took. Everyone has a opinion and that’s fine but let’s not get personal

I really don't think Hayesville is the cream of the crop for college athletes. Every school has a few that have stayed committed and a few that fell below expectations. I mean Hayesville has had great athletes. But some of those athletes didn't make it in college. Kids sign and that is huge but the commitment to do sports and stay eligible to play is completely different in college. The biggest problem is that we often set our own kids up to fail. We often let athletes slide by in academics to get those four years of playing time. Well when they get to college (some cannot academically) they do not know how to balance the two lives. I mean doing one sport in college is hard and could not imagine doing more than one. We should be embracing the athletes that come out of the conference but for the most part we want some kids to fail because of rivalries and animosity.

Congratulations you proved me wrong, see that wildcat when presented with facts I will admit I was wrong. Simply put though many in the SMC think they are good enough and even the few that are, are not willing to work hard enough. They blame the coaches, it is not their fault without the willingness to go and play travels sports, just playing for the high school team is not near enough to get them college looks. Hayesville is one of the few to actually produce several high level d2 and mid major d1 athletes and not they havent had there share of kids that dont finish. I am sure in the last 10 years they have the most kids who do finish at the college level. Common denominator of all of them is that they probably could have not even played for the high school team and still got where they wanted. High school coaches have very little to do with getting kids college looks at the 1a level with the exception being football. Even then its still important to go to camps and play on a 7-7 team.
