I started with the 4A board so I guess I should last but certainly not least I will do the 1A OL's. Unlike most 4A and even 3A schools a lot of 1A OL's have to pull double duty at least some and play DL throughout the year. So props for that. Some 1A schools have guys playing legit Iron Man football playing both ways and special teams. For that I say soak it up and live in the moment it will pay dividends for you down the road.
Corvian Community: honestly until this year mostly they were relative unknowns. They enter this game undefeated. This OL unit has paved the way for a 1600 yard passer and a 1400 yard rusher. They average 336 ypg on offense; good for 5003 total offensive yards this season. They average 40 ppg as well. The new kids on the block enter this game with some people butt hurt because they are a charter school with no district radius etc.... Not getting in to that here, but I get it. Being the new kids on the block they don't seem to really care who they play nor how good they are. Only having been a program for 3 years they are establishing themselves. They have taken out 1A heavy weights Eastern Randolph, Mount Airy and Mountain Heritage on their way to the championship game. They will have to take down another 1A titan to win though. Don't expect Tarboro to intimidate them, they honestly don't seem to care who is opposite from them. That can make them very dangerous.
Tarboro: I love Tarboro's style. A lot of people hate it, they call it boring, old fashioned, 3 yards and cloud of dust. To that I say WHO FREAKING CARES. Old school straight T football, coming straight down the pipe right at you. Here it is, try and stop- most people don't btw. Under Craddock they have 7 state championships and 5 runner up finishes. Over half time during his tenure they have either won or finished as runner ups. Very impressive. This OL unit is consistently one of the best in the state regardless of A size. When you run straight T down hill and rarely throw you are putting lots of eggs in the Oline basket. Loaded boxes don't bother these guys they see it all the time. Only 71st has more rushing yards than these guys coming into Championship week. This unit has dominated the running game posting 4194 yards. They only have almost 800 yards passing which is the fewest of any team remaining, but that doesn't really matter. Tarboro is physical and strong. They have paved the way for two guys to get over 1000 yards rushing and another to get almost 900 so far. They have scored 723 points per game this year, good for 51 a game- highest of any team left. Guess old school football still works.
While Corvian may not fear Tarboro, I think Tarboro wins. Runner ups the last two years it feels like they are on a mission to get back to the very top. It will be interesting to see how the new kids handle old school football.
