Shelby vs Freedom

Shelby had 468 yrds total, Freedom was like 9 yrds total at half but ended up with 261

Freedom made some good second half adjustments. Good win , and 31 points is more than I expected we would get.

Freedom 34 yard td pass.. circus catch by caldwell *Same kid that ran kickoff back* He is a gamer
24-14
Great play

Actually it was a great throw and a great catch. Those two announcers misled their "radio audience" with that call..I was there and had my ear buds in when it happened.

Really impressed with Shelby quarterback, Bess, in the way he keeps his head when pressured. When scrambling, he's always looking for a receiver and isn't quick to tuck the ball in and run.
Freedom is a decent team. They have size, speed and a blue ribbon quarterback.

I noticed Shelby's J.Hollifield was playing both ways. Looked like he might have some soreness, too, but in Shelby practice sessions, I'd think that goals, achievement and the level of effort are always changing.
It's early, it's hot and not everyone is in top form, yet, but I look for the Golden Lions to make another title run.

Shelby needs a run game. It almost didn’t exist, no way freedoms front 4 were better than Shelby’s. Shelby’s linebackers and defensive front were amazing, I thought they tired out in second half and that caused some problems. Bess was very accurate inside 20 yards and that seemed to be the extension of the run game. Good luck to both teams

It won't take long for teams to see we are one dimensional. Its concerning that we can't run inside at all. It looks very similar to last year. When they come off the ball they play to high.Hopefully, they will get better as the season goes along.

lol...………...you know I was just picking a little. Congrats on the win bud.

I know bud.... I was horsing around as well

If I read / heard it right

Bess at QB first start

28-36 370 yards 2tds passing 1 td rushing and 1 interception

He could break all kinds of records at Shelby before his time is up
We have had a run of some great QB play the last couple years

From what i saw the offensive line was hudge for shelby and they blocked better in pass protection than they did in run. This game could have been alot closer if freedom could have tackled, alot of short passes and great runs by the receivers,, freedom had their chances. I just missed seeing that one great running back from shelby, i am sure they will find that and if or when they do, the offense should get alot better.

My take from the ball game last night:
Kids admission was $7 and that already put me in a bad mood.
Concession stand was selling delicious looking chicken wings but I had no more cash due to the $7 ticket.
IDK whose shorts were shorter...the SHS students or the Thomas Jefferson Football players that were in attendance...I asked the resource officer if somebody could put out an APB for the missing rest of their shorts.

Shelby's D looked pretty good, got pressure consistently and stopped the run. They will win them some ball games.

Shelbys O needs work even though they put up 31... the Burns connection of Bess and newest Burns kid Mitchell had some big plays. Mitchell in open space with the ball won that game for Shelby...he was very tough to get hands on after he caught the ball.

The offensive line struggled at times and couldnt get the run game going. I believe I said their O line would be their weakest link last year and a noob got all butt hurt about it. IDK if they have improved yet or not but Bess doesnt have the wheels like Surratt to mask that problem if it still exists.

Overall, Shelby doesnt have a Borders or a Brooks to just fear every Friday night, however, they are still deadly in open space with the ball and the new kid will help that O a lot, they will be a very good 2A team again.

Rev, what's your take on Freedom?

Rev, what's your take on Freedom?

They have some bigguns over there. I thought the QB looked pretty athletic and the kid that ran the KO back was very good! I think Freedoms D looked good but missed some tackles that ended up being big plays for Shelby. I wish Burns and Freedom would renew their rivalry from the last few years! We had some good games and good threads!

Loved that rivalry - some great games, and even greater threads! :)

The qb is a sitting target back there in the pocket. Good luck next week you gonna need it.

RAMBBQ

He is a big wheel in the Legion committee here in Shelby.. they are referring to the American Legion World Series that we host every year
at the high school... It started today... The moved our game to Wednesday due to it

His son Chad I graduated with, best option QB I have seen at the high school level.... Uncanny ability to read and make pitch

Lionattack what u think about last night?
First off, although brief, it was good meeting and dapping up Kings Mountain’s finest last night, you and your brother. I can tell y’all are some good, humble guys. We were all rushing to get into the game. It would have been great to have been able to converse with you guys some, maybe some other time.

Now, to answer your question. Honestly, I don’t think much about last night. I guess you can say that I’m cautiously optimistic. I wasn’t impressed with Freedom. However, they did make adjustments at halftime, and competed hard in the second half. They looked like a different team.

As for Shelby, it was good seeing what some of our athletes are capable of when put into position to make plays. We definitely have athletes, offensively and defensively. Other than that, I think Bl1 and The Rev’s assessments were pretty spot on.

Hopper has been in the Burns system since JV ball
We’ve had quite a few guys transfer to Burns prior to this year, starters for Burns. I can easily name them. Hoey last year and Tominique Watkins in 2015. They weren’t standouts or anything, one went to Burns seeking more playing time than he would have gotten staying at Shelby. And, even BJ Hopper transferred back to Burns once he saw all those athletes at Shelby, Wright, Camp, Brooks, and Borders to name a few, and he saw that he was no longer the so called big fish in a small pond. He went back to Burns that following season to standout. Don’t get me wrong, Burns certainly has athletes, too, but you’ve had some thin years recently.

May get another page outta this before it dies down and people move on to next game. Was kinda curious bout the shorts thing ha ha. I’m baptist and believe in dressing modestly or at least close.

I’m really looking fwd to a good ole’ Watauga/Freedom game again. As good as Watauga has been on Freedom I can’t ever see them ever leveling out the series as Freedom has just had their number in 80s 90s and so on. I know that’s weeks and threads away. Also Alexander Central will be an emotional matchup to get back for last year.

Like i implyed, don’t wanna get off the thread but does Freedom have what it takes to make a conference run this time around?

Freedom must play better defense and tackle alot better, if they want to contend in their conference.

Fair enough. I prob need to get a conference top to bottom finish thread going. They’re always fun.

Same here Lionattack it was good meeting you too. Maybe I can catch you in about a month or so. Good luck on the season you definitely have some weapons to work with. But until then.
