Gentleman, here we stand on the edge of another football season with arguably the toughest, most competitive 2A conference in the state.

East Lincoln holds spot #1 until knocked off...where does everyone else finish?

Thoughts?

Lincolnton holds the #2 slot again for me. Couple of Littlejohn's will start and the defense rebuilds. Two monster defensive linemen and a very good linebacker will not completely be replaced. Lincolnton just keeps on going year after year.

Spot #3- Maiden. Should have very good athletes on offense. May look much like last year but a little more mature. Defense should be close to last year. Maiden may need a couple kids in the secondary to go both ways at times.

Maiden will be solid in the backfield and at two receiver positions. Speed is not a problem on offense at all. How well the defensive line and defensive backs come will determine their success. Again my views only.

#4- Think I might take West Caldwell to move up the ladder after many, many years of bad football. My travels have indicated the exit to Hibriten has just about stopped. West goes up, Hibriten goes down this year. Tucker is a slick running QB but they will miss the graduation of Raheem Spikes. Many of the defense return. Very young energetic coach who is making progress after a revolving door of coaches. Maybe not the biggest kids but certainly kids with toughness. This is a good year to make a statement before most likely moving up in the 2017 realignment.

spoke with someone from West Caldwell program today. They have high expectations.
I think the community over there is pretty excited. Wish them the best!
I remember the Warriors of the late 80's that were as tough as any team around.

Whats the story on Bandys - they lost 30 - 0 to South Caldwell? Is SC pretty good or is Bandys down?
I was somewhat surprised to see Bunker Hill was reasonably competitive in their opener, they may be better than a lot of people expected?
West Lincoln got handled by Draughn who I did not expect much from - you would think that signals a rough road for West Lincoln.
Newton and Lincolnton roll over inferior competition.
East Lincoln wins in impressive fashion.
West Caldwell won going away against North Wilkes.
Lots of questions to be answered.

Newton and Lincolnton will be playing big time games next week with South Point @ Lincolnton and Asheville @ N-C. South Point and Asheville are always tough 3A teams. Asheville beat Franklin last night and S. Point lost to Crest. Those games will tell us where Lincolnton and N-C stand.

I'm curious about Maiden. Sounded like they played a good game.

Lincolnton will face a very good team next week. They will need a heroic performance to stop the South Point run game. South Point is a top 5 3A state team. SP kids are tough as I have seen.

Newton played a team with 16 or less kids on the team and never win any games- Highland Tech. Asheville will be a handful. Will not stop the run. They will have to out score Asheville.

The Maiden vs South Caldwell game will give an indication of where they are. But remember its 4A verses a 2A school. Maiden doesn't need to win that game for validity.

I wouldn't read a lot into the Bandys game just yet. South Caldwell has some good defensive players and it will be hard for people to run on them. Again 4A team vs 2A team.

West Caldwell will only go up. The transfer bleeding to Hibriten has diminished. West has a finally made a wise choice in coaches. He is doing more than just x and o stuff. He is a competitive young lad keeping the kids home.

West Caldwell has talent and always has. Just getting all kids to play two sports was big and getting a good football coach. The transfer thing is bogus and funny you say that all the time. When I went to HHS in 2002 Hibriten and West where both loaded with talent and both went like 10-2. I'm happy both programs are doing well.

Not bogus. I attend wrestling matches for many, many years Two years at West then bam, over to Hibriten. I could name many of them. Walked up to a number of them and asked them about thinking they were at West. They don't like talking about it. I can point you to records on a website and prove anything I say friend. Show me the money and I will show you the truth. I kept a log of many of those, still have it book marked on my Mac. Took one back to his home after a all day event. He damn sure was not in Hibriten district on the West side of Harper Avenue.

And I played football with the half brother of somebody whose brother bettered himself by playing bball at west. No transfer rules 9 years ago.
It's total bogus what your saying. They have had a sit out one year if you live out of district in Caldwell County for around 7 years and counting. Before they had the rules I'm sure some kids did transfer but I know of some that did the opposite way of what your saying.

What you need to be saying is that West has made some good hires and are getting players from multiple sports playing. There AD and Coaches are doing a good job with recent hires. Give them the credit.

LOL. Old North Rd still feeds West Caldwell last time I checked. Several years ago while in the SMAC
Freedom went to West for a 7on7. Two players from West that participated transferred the next week
to Hibriten.

LOL yall really just can handle the fact that Hibriten has been the dominant program in the area of the last 10/15 years.

Don't yall get to comfy with Chipper, he's still renting a house and after this year he'll be on the move.

That said, I think WCHS will probably beat HHS this year.

And its funny that when I was at William Lenoir, way back in the early 90's I had classes with Errol Hood and Maury Patterson, who ended up at West Caldwell for high school. Yet I never hear any of the HHS fans saying anything about that. Hmmmmmm......sounds like sour grapes from WCHS people.

Not sour here.....very happy for Hibriten success and West Caldwell's improvement.
Just stating the facts. This happens in every county! In yours, it used to always go
like this - If you wanna play real baseball go to South, if you wanna play BB go
to West, but if you want to play football go to Hibriten.

Thats funny chip and his family just made a offer on a house two weeks ago hhs fans just keep ddreaming hes leaving

Just because you go to a certain middle school that does not mean you have to attend that high school, back in the early 2000's Jamal Norwood went to gamewell last years stand out the daniels kid went to gamewell. The sit out year has not been in effect for 7 years just a couple of years ago the jones kid went to hhs and after a few practices the sudderth kid went over there. i guess it is a little harder to get the west kids now that monty simmions has moved on.

ahh yes, good ole retardcav, has no idea what he is talking about.

On to more important things. Two bigger games for the SD7 this week. South Caldwell vs West Caldwell and Lincolnton vs South Point.

West Caldwell will be at a big disadvantage being a 2A school. The athlete size will also be hard to overcome. But I think West can score but can they stop the constant ground pounding game. Top North Carolina recruit and former Hickory High standout Landon Dickerson will be a man amongst boys on both sides of the ball.

South Point is going to be a rock on defense. The drive plays and occasional option are not easy to stop but Lincolnton will need to make South Point start deep and go in long field situations.

Is the Dickerson kid going to play? I think he got ejected Friday night.

Disqualified is the word, not ejected. Ejection is couple games. Disqualified is the game you are in. Kid is well tempered. Someone must have done something bad for the kid to slam them.

I understand the rule. I was just told that he was "ejected" and assumed that meant he would be out this week. Also, heard that the kid from Bandys was talking a little junk to him and he basically put a "pile drive" on him. If he was only disqualified and not ejected for that, I wonder what it would take to earn an ejection.

I was told he felt a couple of times his knees were targeted. Not sure about the final ruling but was told disqualified. Guess we will find out Friday. Never seen the monster disturbed by junk talking. Dickerson has many SEC and BCS offers. Auburn is on his list for sure. Kid is still young for a senior and has big time potential if he is allowed to red shirt for maturity considering his age.

friend of mine from Bandys said South Caldwell had the biggest o-line he has ever seen on a high school team...coming home from the Freedom game,I heard the announcers on 103.3 fm say that the o-line for South averaged 6'2 and over 325 pounds...all I have to say to West Caldwell this week, good luck

Yes, South has size but West has some blazing speed this year. This game will be ball control by South as they will try to just overpower West verses big play West offense. West will struggle with South's size but South will struggle chasing Tucker, Brooks, Francis and Harper all night. Interesting matchup, speed vs. size! This is the fastest WC team I've ever seen and that includes their glory days of the 80's and early 90's. This team has an explosive offense and only an average defense. Interesting game here

No one's arguing that, duhhhh!, they own it this year but Chip English is turning WC around and the program is only going to gain ground from here on. I think WC jv's defeated both EL and L last year and had 4 freshmen and 6 sophomores on the varsity.

No doubt SC is big on the line but there is no way that statement is correct. Dickerson is listed at 293 and Micah Oxford is not much over 200 so there the other three starters would have to be over 350 each - not true.

Back to the the discussion of the conference - Yes EL and Lincolnton are strong at the top.

Bandys. are they really that one dimensional. 0-6 passing against a South Caldwell. I suppose if SC was just dominating the line of scrimmage then there may not have been any time to throw.

Maiden is another team in that upper middle. Did I hear that their QB was dinged up? They have an interesting matchup with Hibriten this week.

Who does Bunker Hill play?

don't you know that every kid on the SC football team has at least 1 D-1 offer and Butch is inline to replace Saban at Alabama after this year???? It's a fact b/c I heard them talking about it at Sawmills Hardware!!!

Hibriten97 meet me down on the track next friday and i will gladly have chip tell you their buying a house.

Did you say they beat them in JV, sure sign they are the up and up, sure sign, good luck.

Good Grief, all we're saying is our program is turning around and you Lincoln boy's just wanna disrespect. I remember back in the 80's and 90's when WC had a decent coach WC owned Lincoln county. It's been a long time but WC has a quality coach now and are getting better every week. Have a good day and channel that arrogance, it'll flip someday, always does
