RJ Reynolds new Stadium at the School?

Went by and took a look today, man was I fed some wrong info. No turf down, basically all that is done is area for turf is graded. No construction started on press box, concessions or bathrooms.

If I knew how to post pics I took a couple but I have never figured out how.

Make an account on imgur.com and upload the photos. It's on the list of approved sites you can upload media files from made by Rivals.

After you upload, copy the URL code that the picture gives you, and then click the 'Media' button where you write posts on here and paste the URL in. It should just post the picture!

Yeah, when I was at Hanes Park in late June it looked like they still had a long way to go. I know the biggest issue with this stadium was just getting the neighborhoods in the area to go along with it as they did not want to deal with the parking, noise, traffic, etc. But since it has been approved it sure seems like the going has been slow getting this stadium up. Not sure why unless there have been problems with the contractors.

Looks like it will be a nice place when completed. And it is good they kept this a relatively smaller stadium for a 4A team given the parking situation in that area and the fact that RJR is usually not great at football and does not draw large crowds for home games. Hate the field being turf and not real grass. But that is the unfortunate trend in high schools these days.

Who is, or was, M. Douglas Crater? Apparently he cares, or cared, deeply for RJR HS. I noticed they named the press box and the scoreboard for other people. Pardon the pun, but RJR has "old school" tradition and support.

Obviously they wanted the place to look good, and not just some metal seating with a fence around it.

I thought originally they should have named it Shirley Red Wilson Field since he won the state titles for Reynolds back in the day in the 50s and 60s, as the basketball gym is named after legendary coach and athletic director Herman Bryson. Wilson went on to coach at Elon and Duke later. He recruited my dad to walk on at Elon as he was recruiting Gary Thayer from Allen Jay for scholarship but my dad said he would rather not spend money on private school to be a glorified blocking dummie and retired from football to go to NC State instead and focus on political science...

M Douglas Crater was a legendary player and coach at RJR and served as football cosch, wrestling coach and golf coach for many years whilst assisting with others and heading others too. I have no issue with naming the field after him. RIP Coach Crater and good luck RJR, the original Winston Salem High on cherry st burned down and RJR in effect replaced it.

I think there will be a large brick structure behind the home seating and it looks like almost nothing has been done with that yet. So it looks like there is still a pretty good ways to go with this. Sure is taking a long time.
