Good balance by Rams with 270 yards passing and 223 rushing.
Al Lee connected on 15 of 26 for 253 yards and 3 TD with one interception
Landon Denny 2 of 2 for 17 yards, including perfect corner throw into the end zone to Lorenzo Mendoza. Queshyne Flippen had 6 catches for 72 yards and 2 TDs and welcome back to senior Tamir Johnson (missed last season with injury); He had four receptions for 58 yards. Jaden McCain led in yardage with 112 on two catches (including an 80 yarder). Add in freshman Dionte Neal with two catches ... all adds up to lots of targets.
The three tailbacks all looked good in replacing Watlington (now at Averett) ... Trey Poteat broke away on a 57-yarder and finished with 86 yards, Jeremiah Redd had 8 carries for 48 yards and Jariel Cobb had 5 carries for 25 yards.
Rams' defense played well after the initial Western score. Pass rush against Western QB was a big factor. Six sacks, including two by freshman DE Kendre Harrison. Pick-six by Flippen another highlight. Linebacker Aidan Mansfield led with 8 tackles and LB mate Paul Widerman had 6 stops.
Kicking game misses graduated 3-year standout Franson but Devin Shryock took care of the punting with 3 for 35 average and freshman Grady Barrett, who wasn't even on the roster, made both of his PAT kicks.
Overall a good opening performance by the Rams.
