Private School Advantages vs Public.

If you are looking at it from your career perspective as a public school employee, absolutely.

If you were a military veteran would you vote for someone that fights to cut military spending and argues that we should privatize the military?

Didn't people vote for their "wallets" this election?

I mean really, why would you vote for someone that is hostile toward you livelihood?
I don't know how you "privatize the military". I mean, I know that contractors exist, but they do a little security work on the side, at best. But I would be willing to see how they might measure up for a few things, here and there. Some manage to pay better than active duty, but without the benefits and you'd better be ready to take your chances. The DOD bureaucracy can also be a nightmare, believe me about that.

I'm also an army retiree and I definitely want better accountability from the DOD. Seriously, they've never passed an audit and I've seen first-hand how they waste billions. Some of it is pure pork as well, but that's part of the deal. They spread the spending around to places it isn't really needed to keep virtually every member of the House and Senate on side and playing ball. There are cuts that could be made in all sorts of places, but the details would have to be worked out.

We're hopelessly in debt and I don't think we can tax our way out of it, so unless we can streamline what the government does and bring spending under control, we're screwed. That's the way I approach it.

Buzz, how are you seriously ok voting against your career? Something that I am sure you've worked very hard for and probably do ok with.

Who do you think is going to be the first to go when cuts start?

Too many public school employees vote against their best interest.
In the state I did vote some democrat including Josh Stein as I vote for the best for the job imo.

My wife has been doing this for 25 years as a teacher and now a Principal. So because she voted Republican it has hurt her career? She has a Masters and Doctorate which has helped her career. When she became a principal she asked her teachers what are your wants and what are you wishes when she 1st started. She ran off her bad teachers to make her school better. I believe leadership at the school has more to do with it than how you vote.

Why did she decide to go into administration? Was money a major factor? She works in Tennessee right? I'm sure there are some things different there than here but some that are the same.

Money has become a deciding factor for many people going into admin in NC and what happens is we end up with people that were good teachers that end up being bad administrators because administration isn't for everyone.

Teachers are leaving in droves right now. Some leave because of bad admin and many more leave just because of the climate that has been created by the state.

I appreciate your wife's service but I am afraid that people with the drive and dedication like your wife are going to be few and far between in 10 years if not sooner because of the climate being created in states like NC.

Did you know NC teachers go from year 15-25 without a raise now? Not to mention no masters pay anymore.

Thank you for your service. I enjoy hearing opinions from service members and agree there are things that need cleaning up with the DOD and the whole thing.

I don't believe raising the debt ceiling to add on tax cuts for the Elon Musk's of the world is the answer though and that truly worries me.

I'm glad you aren't a straight ticket voter. But we have to do more to fight back against the legislature. The Governor isn't impacting you nearly as much as the house and senate members you vote for.

North Carolina has to release the stranglehold Phil Berger has established.

She didn’t get a raise because she was already pretty much maxed out because of her education. You look silly making ever political when it comes to education

The state of Tennessee is more Red then NC also

The only time during my life that we've even gotten close to balancing the budget was in the late 90s, with Clinton as President and a Republican Congress.
The Republicans had just taken over control of the House after 40 years of Democrat control and they had some reforms in mind, so one of the things they did was pass a limited "item veto" for the President.
Now, this is a power that almost every governor has, and it essentially means he can strike out parts of a bill without having to veto the entire bill (you probably know this, but other readers may not).
SCOTUS ruled it unconstitutional after a few years, but while it was in effect we got the closest we've been in a while to a balanced budget. Obviously, there was a lot going on in the late 90s that contributed to that as well, but I think this is an overlooked variable.
If I had the power to amend the Constitution on my own, I would put in an amendment restoring this power to the Presidency.
Don't even get me started about omnibus bills. Spending, to include pork, is a serious problem.

I agree with you that the President needs that power back. The 90s where a good time, and it all crashed fast after 9/11.

The things that get thrown into bills is disgusting. Sort of like what NC just did stripping power of the executive branch by throwing it into a disaster relief bill. Now this is going to happen at the federal level for disaster relief I fill. Another good example is the Tik Tok ban which was thrown into a reconciliation package. This ban is about to have a major impact on the economy.

No she is like the top 5 in the county in pay. She makes like $90,000
$90K to run a school speaks volume on inadequate pay in public education. Your wife and all of her teachers should be praised for their sacrifices, not to mention the bureaucracy and nagging parents. Your wife deserves more compensation and in addition, all other aspiring administrators need her to make more money so they can reap the rewards.

I’ve thought for many years that our educators have been taken for granted. This should not be a Republican vs. Democratic debate, but more of a debate on what benefits our society the most. Attracting adequately talented educators requires a better incentive besides the pretty decent retirement benefits.
