I wouldn’t say that. In Chase’s defense, they were knocked off balance by the early touchdown and the onside kick but made adjustments and out scored Polk 34-6 in the 2nd half. Polk was also considered 18th or so in the rankings and Chase won by 21. Being able to battle back like they did showed they can adjust and execute on the field. The concerns I had from watching it was their secondary at times. That's more to do with polks depth than chase being that great seen a lot of teams this year no way Chase is top 8 in 2A they won't stand a chance against the top teams that can match their speed.
Polk was +4 in turnovers in the first half. 2 int’s, onside, and a fumble on the punt trickery.. they absolutely can’t have that !!!I wouldn’t say that. Exactly, and yet they still made adjustments and found a way to win. About 10 years ago Chase was 6-5 and played Shelby in the first round of the playoffs and lost 12-6. Yet Shelby went on to win the state championship, that wasn’t an indictment on Shelby but a Chase team that played hard. Ugly wins are still wins, and teams that can find a way to win despite adversity are good teams. I agree that Chase isn’t the same without McCombs. I think Chase with McCombs puts them on the same level as Burns and Shelby this year, without him doesn’t disqualify them (definitely hurts though) but doesn’t mean they are going to run over Chase as in some of the years past in some 55-10 bloodbath, there is other talent.Polk was +4 in turnovers in the first half. 2 int’s, onside, and a fumble on the punt trickery.. they absolutely can’t have that !!!
Missing Marquis really hurts Chase
I think there was a tie in the 60s or 70s but I don’t think they ever won. Been a lot of close ones. But I also don’t think there has been a 8-0 Chase team either so there’s that too.Umm, has Chase ever beat Shelby?
I can’t remember if it that ever happened.
A common theme that I have observed is how great Chase is till they play Shelby or Burns. Maybe this is the year like Kings Mountain breaks out from the past.

I actually heard that Polk was going to get to go back to 1A next year... but what conference would Polk go ? Western highlands is full of 1a and the 1/2 split that shelbys in is full alsoYour also quick to forget Chases "improvement" on defense came in the second half after one of Polks best receivers got injured early in the 3rd missed the rest of the game he also plays defensive back and his replacement was beaten twice for long touchdowns. It's also a different world playing a Polk team who his only playing 2a because of the nchsaa asinine decision to include irrelevant information in their last alignment formula. Hints part of the reason 95% of Polks kids play both ways. Bigger schools will likely have more athletes and a deeper bench. Shelby and Burns will have more than 2 recievers that can legitimately threaten the defense Chase secondary will have to vastly improve to compete with them. From what I saw last night there best hope would be a high scoring shoot out.
Shelby conference is 6 schools...they have room for 1 more.I actually heard that Polk was going to get to go back to 1A next year... but what conference would Polk go ? Western highlands is full of 1a and the 1/2 split that shelbys in is full also
7 teams 4 1a’s and 3 2a’sShelby conference is 6 schools...they have room for 1 more.
No you are 100% correct!!!shelby and Burns have no business playing Bessemer city , TJ ,Cherville and highland tech ... for both parties it helps nothingA better for most solution would be for Burns and Shelby to go elsewhere as they are not benefitting from the weak conference schedule. The smaller, less athletic schools would draw bigger crowds to battle each other.
Who wants to watch a beat down every game till the Conference Championship ? What about the kids in the smaller schools ? It would suck knowing your going to take a beating every time they play a Cleveland County School. OK, I am done rambling
Can they request to move up to 3A? I know both schools have been there before because FH has played both teams in the 3A playoffs in the past when we were there and they both have won the 3A titles also. If they stay 2A what conference could they be in or what could be created? No you are 100% correct!!!shelby and Burns have no business playing Bessemer city , TJ ,Cherville and highland tech ... for both parties it helps nothing
Shelby will never be 3A. They'll never let it happen. Biggest city in the county, but smallest school. Growing up, I was 10 minutes away from Shelby and 15 from Burns. I actually lived in Shelby. But I was in Burns district. Lol.Can they request to move up to 3A? I expect Forest Hills to move up to 3A in the next 5-8 years probably. If the bond passes here in Union County this November they're going to build a brand new and larger Forest Hills High School. With the new Toll Bypass that comes out right at Forest Hills they're expecting huge growth and they're plan is a much larger school. Plus they're going to redraw the district lines to relieve overcrowding at 4A Piedmont and possibly draw some students from Parkwood and the east side of Monroe. Construction starts next spring. Union County is the second fastest growing county in NC and It's getting crowded unfortunately. Especially on the west side where 5 of the 6 4A schools are in the county. Luckily I live out the country North of Marshville. 😆Shelby will never be 3A. They'll never let it happen. Biggest city in the county, but smallest school. I will do you one better.. Students are bussed to Fallston and Burns from City of Shelby streets.Shelby will never be 3A. They'll never let it happen. Biggest city in the county, but smallest school. From what I have read on this forum the Rutherford Co. Schools wanted to get away from playing Cleveland Co. Schools. I would be surprised if that happened. And the way back days when I was in HS there was the Southwestern 3A Conference consisting of Burns, Crest, Kings Mountain, Shelby, East Rutherford, RS Central, and Chase. Which County has multiple State Titles under their belt ?I wouldnt want to play us either. lolYou could consider moving Shelby and Burns with the Rutherford teams and hendersonville and brevard moving patton to the Western highlands to give them another 2a team then polk with the others and include maybe Rosman smaller school would fit better but there would be some serious travel for Rosman I'm sure there would be push back it's hard to build a 1a conference in this area of the state that work with travel both Rosman and polk are kinda out of the way of other 1a schools
Oh I know. Crest kids ride by Shelby High School to get to Crest. Or at least used to. Not sure how the lines are now.I will do you one better.. Students are bussed to Fallston and Burns from City of Shelby streets.
Trust me, I know.
The Catawba County Lincoln line run through my wife's parents house. There was three of them she and one brother went to maiden one went to West Lincoln. So it just depends on which side of the house their bedroom was on 🤣🤣🤣. Just joking but it really did happen that way but the reason why was because somebody in the neighborhood complained they couldn't go to maiden so county looked into it and the youngest sibling was made to go to West Lincoln.Back in my HS days we had Mooresville address and was about 4 miles from Mooresville HS. But the ones that lived on on side of the rd went to South Iredell and the other side of the rd went to Mooresville. So about 19 miles or so I had to go South Iredell.
Also if you've ever been to Newton Conover high School there's a road nearby called Lafon road. A good golfer could probably hit a golf ball there from the high school but it fred t Ford school district 🤣🤣Back in my HS days we had Mooresville address and was about 4 miles from Mooresville HS. They fixed that during the consolidation at least at Holly Oak.Oh I know. Crest kids ride by Shelby High School to get to Crest. Or at least used to. Not sure how the lines are now.
