Pisgah -Bunker Hill

Can anyone from down Around the area give us any info on BH? Looked online at the roster looks to have decent size although I think at least according to posted roster Pisgah will be a little bigger. And I’m sure they have some speed, looked like for the most part they have been in every ballgame pretty much, W or L lots of tight scores although I know nothing about that conference this year.

Bunker Hill gave Hibriten there closest Conference game. I was impressed with their defense. Offensively ran the spread didn't have much success against but a decent ball team. Imo

Bunker Hill beat Pisgah in a scrimmage game a few years ago. I suspect a hard fought ballgame. Just get the W Black Bears!!

I remember that scrimmage however if I recall correctly been long enough ago for all that was involved should be gone?

Chopper, I realize its just a scrimmage and personal has changed. They handled pisgah pretty good back then and I'm sure they are capable of doing it again is all I'm saying.

Bunker Hill is a scrappy bunch. They always have athletes and some size. Their strength is their run defense. It’s hard to run over them. They beat Bandy’s.. which was monumental down here around these parts!...that’s when Bunker Hill started believing and winning! They will be a handful and super excited to play at Pisgah!

Bunker has a couple of N-C transfers I believe...once they started playing, the Bears started winning

Held Hibriten to 28 points, defense is pretty sound... Heard the did get some transfers in this year to help improve the team... I would expect a low scoring hard fought game imo

Thanks for all the info guys! From what you all have given sounds like these two teams mirror each other pretty much. Which probably means just like most close games turnovers will be big. Since it’s in Canton I’ll go with Pisgah 14-7! But we will have to play another solid game just like the Brevard game. If the O can get going Pisgah can upset someone in the playoffs the D has been solid all year and that travels, hopefully we seen the return of Robinson running like him old self last week, best and healthiest I’d seen him look since his sophomore year, that’s a good thing for Pisgah and at a good time

Before the Brevard game, Pisgahs adjusted Max Preps rating had us at 18 .After the Bears won that rating went to 12. So the win over Brevard, even though we ended up third in the draw, was the difference in going on the road and getting a game at home.
Compare that to Bunker Hills' final MPR number 60.Even though they finished second in their conference. That tells me that they are in a weak conference. This is a game the Bears should win by at least 21 points. For what's it's worth I thought that last year too.Go Bears!

We are hanging out hat on our D. Offense is not going to come from behind if we get down a couple scores. Had Brevard not put it on the ground 5 times with us recovering 4 of those and with 2 of those bring in the red zone it would have been a different outcome.

I don't disagree with you but you could say the same thing about the Murphy loss .When we turned it over three times. That's just part of the game.

That can be said for nearly every loss on a football field since the beginning? I can also argue those were true forced fumbles from hits and not bad pitches or bobbled snaps there’s a reason It was on the ground wasn’t just dropped.

Defense is sound. But I don't think our offense is. I agree they forced some fumbles. Will we be able to do that all the time. Doubtful. Take away 3 wins against Enka East Hendo and Franklin where we scored big numbers against teams that are struggling and our average is 14 points a game for those other games. So yes I'd say we hang out hat on our D that is allowing a 10 point per game average. Hopefully the numbers stay on our side.

We go through this every year, someone saying we need to .score more points. We are currently eight and two . Lost by 12 and six in overtime to two pretty good teams. If you listen to Brett on the radio or talk to him. He stresses two things time of possession and defense. He has done that since he came to Pisgah and even when he was at East. .That's his way of coaching and I don't think he will change that since it's worked out pretty good over the years.
I remember when Tuscola came to Canton averaging over 50 points a game . Everyone was saying we will have to score fifty or more to beat them. Tuscola fans were saying we would lose by fifty. Final score 23-20 Bears.

The only thing Pisgah should worry about is who they are playing in Round 2. This game will be over by halftime. BH is weak and going to the mountains to play at Pisgah will expose them.

Atta boy! We told East Lincoln the same thing last year. Why in the world would y’all go all the way to Canton to play a stupid football game! Y’all 5 and 6 and think you can win!

Believe our Black Bears will be motivated after last years let down. No doubt BH will be too. Should be a fun one.

We didn't score enough in the ball control time of possession style of play..that was evident

Bretts actually had teams that have scored quite a lot of points at East Hendo & when under Mike Sexton there as well. More than his teams at Pisgah ever have. So, I wouldn't say that has always been his M.O. The difference is that Pisgah doesn't have any "great" athletes like East Hendo did during that era. There's not a player for Pisgah in the last several years that has had that game changing dynamic playmaking ability or the capability to take over or anything like that in big games. That's why he preaches ball control/time of possession and defense. It's really all they have to rely on. A bunch of tough and disciplined but slow mountain boys. I cringe at the thought of the game coming down to our offense to save, because it won't happen. We got lucky with Brevard, I just hope it continues.

Like the great one, Vince Lombardi once said, "the only place that success comes before work is in the dictionary". Talent does give you an edge we can’t deny that. But hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. Give me 22 boys who are determined to win any day over 22 that are oozing with talent and have the wrong mindset on any given day. The determined ones will most often find a way to win.

Bunker Hill beat Foard by 2 and West Iredell by 3....nuff said...Over by halftime.

A 3 point win over ER would worry me. Might be closer than you think.

I believe Bunker Hill can win this game but I will take Pisgah since the game is in Canton and it is a tough place to play. BH is playing some good ball right now and have the confidence that they have lacked the past couple of years. They are well coached and have a tough defense.

You’re not going to hear much from Bunker Hill fans on here. They’ve had a tough run the last few years. Their 6 wins this year equals the total wins for the previous 5 years. They haven’t been to the playoffs since 2013. Bunker Hill used to be in the Southern District 7 along with the rest of the Catawba county schools but moved after the last alignment into the Northwestern Foothills (The Hibriten conference) LOL! The locals around here call it the I-40 conference.
As “Dad of 23” pointed out... Bunker has barely beaten some teams but I assure you that every one of their wins this year was HUGE! They beat teams that are usually whipping them year in and year out. Those teams didn’t give the wins.... Bunker Hill earned them! The locals around here are proud of them and hope to see them continue to improve and grow confident at least until they move back into our conference! Just kidding!

Good luck to both teams tomorrow night! I hope Bunker can keep y’all awake til halftime.

Off topic - Don’t know much about BH, but when I went to the girls 1st round basketball playoff game at Bunker Hill last year, that was the smallest high school gym I have ever seen. But there was a good crowd for that game. How well will they travel tomorrow night?

MaidenCreek, no doubt the Pisgah crowd will be awake. Just hope our Black Bears are, lol.
Safe travels to the BH crowd. Hope to see a lot of y'all up here.

I’ll be surprised if they fill it up. They’re some die hards and it’s been awhile since they had something to be excited about. My guess is.... below average. Perhaps someone from the I-40 conference could shed some light on their attendance.

Looks like the rain will be ending by 7. 39 degrees at game time. Good night on the river for playoff football. Lets go Black Bears!!
