I can tell you a few things. I felt they had a QB and a RB that had alot of potential. Pretty good size on the line too. If they can give the QB time and RB some lanes they can burn you. Attacking the middle of the field seemed to be the QB's strength in the passing game. He throws seam routes very well. Seems like they put it together in October and went on a run. The defense looked hit or miss, but they have some pieces on that side that can play. The big glaring issue for them seemed to be special teams, but it was mainly things coaching can take care of and I assume they have. If they can get consistent with their play they can go on a run just like anybody else in 2A. Their conference was no joke this year, tough from top to bottom. I have a feeling they are a better team than when I saw them in September. Otis will have to expand on that.

I've been busy. Just got back from working a call we had a house fire I had to go kill the power on. I had an assistant coach call me and tell me you were asking about me. He filled me in on the adm numbers. I'm shocked we are going small 2A. I think we would have been better on 2AA as did he. So I guess this weeks game will have effect on our seeding? We won the conference so I'm not sure.
Bud has pretty much got us pegged. We play 5 sophomores on defense and they have gotten better each week. I was disappointed in our play and effort at North lenoir and we got one helluva effort from North Lenoir. It was their homecoming and they came to play. We have a sophomore rb that is starting to be impressive. We will be tough at home. How they respond when/if we hit the road will be the key. I'll be a happy camper if we can get WRH or Clinton in Vanceboro. I just want us to be relevant again. We lose some good kids this year. Our QB has been solid for us when he had time to make his reads. Sheldon Yates I wish we could keep another year. He has been a leader for us on our defense. With all our youth playing this year we should be even better next year.

Bud I like our chances. I don't know much of New Bern other than they run a lot. I think I New Bern will find the going a little tough in Vanceboro.
Yall got to stop the run. They will run it all game long to try to wear the defense out. Their QB is young and makes some mistakes even receiving snaps. They will give you chances but you have to capitalize on their mistakes. Our QB play hasn't been consistent enough this year to torch them. We were able to stop their run game consistently. Just had the same issues we had all year on offense in the pass game. That was the key to Conley dominating them they stopped the run and threw all over them. I know your QB is capable that's why asked if the pass game had evolved much. If it has yall have a good shot if you can stop the run.
Right now HSOT has West Craven #4 up against Goldsboro #13 in the 1st round. Small 2A. Alot could change after Friday night.
Kind of unbelievable in a way. Been 3A forever and with last classification dropping to 2A. Never in a million years would I have thought WC would be in the small 2A bracket.
Our problem is keeping kids in school. Enrollment was around 880. Our Average daily membership is 774. Pitiful.
Yea I think 9-1 speaks for itself. You guys should really be pleased.
He hasn't had trouble with the snaps other than the SC game due to our starting Center being out. Him being out caused other guys to move around on the line. Still rushed for over 320 yards without the Senior captain center. Our pass D has improved drastically. Did a helluva job against Matthews and Aycock. We're also starting to move the ball through the air, watch out for that.
We'll see. Had over 100 yards passing last week. Don't need to pass much when you're getting 5/6 yards a carry.
It was more than just the snaps, once the NB RB had trouble getting to the edge early on there were handoffs and pitches that were mishandled. I'm not slighting NB in the least. They were 2 young teams in NB/SC going through the motions. We couldnt capitalize when we had the chances alot of that is due to young/injured lineman and inconsistent offense with young receivers not making catches/ overthrown passes that were open with a short field. Y'all Wore our defense down in the end. I look forward to next year, both teams have some good young talent that will show out next year. Hope yall do well in the playoffs and represent our confrence well.

You referenced the QB in your post, so I replied about the QB. Yes, they fumble occasionally. Similar to when you throw the ball, you get intercepted, when you run the ball 50+ times, you're gonna have fumbles. Part of it may be fatigue when the starting RB is also playing LB and has over 70 tackles on the season on top of 1600 rushing yards. We've got a roster of 44 in which 3 are listed as kickers and another handful just called up from JV. Didn't take it as a slight at all. We may see you guys again in the playoffs.
I noticed. But I think the 3AA is much more competitive than the 4A. So in that case, they get what they deserve!
"May" is a loaded word for us. W'ell get at least 2 guys back this week. We have struggled all year to find an identity and leaders. Run game has really struggled last 4 weeks when it looked it could have been a strength early in the season. We have some good talent on jv I have watched this year that I felt could have stepped in and made a difference this year if given a chance. I trust coach Tew to develope this team for the long haul and that's kinda where I'm at with this team. They'll have a solid core of seniors next year while the other 2 contenders in the conference look to possibly be down. I think we will be battling it out with you guys next year for the conference.
I looked at their schedule. Good win for you guy's. They beat SC which we lost too. Theres no denying NB is a solid opponent. I'm just glad we get you at home. Hopefully that will help us.
I don't think the venue matters too much in HS football. Both teams will have good crowds. Gonna be a chilly one on Friday night.
Yea I'll like our team much better next year after a full year in the system. Coach does a good job in the weight room hopefully we can get bigger and faster. We're playing a ton of 9th and 10th graders so we'll be looking for big jumps out of those kids next year.
Sadly our attendance is down. Is it because of declining adm numbers? I don't know but it bugs me. My wife works the gate and last weeks gate sold a little over 400 tickets for a conference title game. You may have home field advantage in that regard. It kills me to have to admit it but a liar I'm not.
Ours hasn't been much since 2014. When we're down, our fans rather listen to it on the radio. Better this year but not on par from the 2012-2014 seasons. I expect a big one this week.
So do we, we have started 2 freshman and a sophmore on the oline the last 4 weeks. We have a LB that's a sophmore near the top in tackles in conference that didn't start 1st 3 games. Couple of sophmores at corner and safety. Hate it for big George on both lines. He has had a great senior year, his little brother should have moved up I felt like this year from jv. I'm with you, can't wait to see how these young guys improve in the offseason.
If it's any consolation Otis. I love y'alls visitor stands. Some of the nicer ones I visited this season. I enjoyed watching a game there.
