#8 vs #9

On paper this match-up should always be a good one. I know nothing about North Surry...does anybody have any insight on this team?

Hopefully Maiden is ready to play...given the beatings we've taken the last 2 weeks I can only hope our moral isn't too low. Our 3 losses are to very good teams and we do play in a tough conference but getting beat like that is never good back to back.

Let's go Blue!

I'm taking Maiden. They have played a very tough schedule. Too much speed.

I believe all the sd7 teams have a chance of going to the next round,,,do not understand how West is a lower seed than Newton.....oh well,at least a closer game

This won't be a walk in the park for Maiden!!! North Surry is playing their best ball of the year. Their loses have also come against very tough competition. They have found a balance attack the last few weeks and if healthy they will score a lot. Defense has really stepped up and passing against them is very hard to do. GOOD LUCK!!! you're going to need it

Godevilsgo just curious about that tough schedule you mention. The teams they have faced have a combined record of 61 to 59. Yes their three loses came against very good teams but their wins have all came against teams barely .500 (6 and 5) including one 1 an 10 team and two 2 an 9 teams. How tough is that?

Every conference has bad teams in them and I don't think that there would be too much argument that the SD-7 is one of the toughest 2A conferences in the state. All of the teams below us in conference naturally have 3 losses and by facing each other they knock their losses down by one each. Besides, mediocre talent in one conference can beat the best talent in another conference.

ESCard...you wouldn't be a East Surry Cardinals fan would you? Don't tell me you're just hating on Maiden because of the shellackings we gave you in 2002 and 2003 in the playoffs? I'll never forget that trip in 2002 to East Surry...when we got off of the bus and walked into the guest locker room there were no chairs or benches to sit on and the air conditioning was running (it was 20 something degrees outside) and the only thing in that whole locker room was an upside down trash can with an East Surry helmet sitting on it...that game didn't end so well for you guys.

He is a North Surry fan and just being honest about your tough schedule.

My kids are in the East Surry School system but I went to North Surry. I pull for both teams but I am a Greyhound!!! and I am just saying if you take away the three games you lost then your wins have come against teams with a combined record of 33 an 45 Doesn't seem to tough to me. That's all Don't get me wrong NS has only beating one team with a winning record this year, but I'm not bragging about their "tough Schedule" on here

ESCard, It looks like you're trying to pass a few numbers off as being irrefutable. That wouldn't be more like wishful thinking, would it?

The way I see it, Godevilsgo, may be justified in saying Maiden plays a tough schedule. These teams that Maiden beat and that you insinuate are mediocre: Newton-Conover, Hibriten, St.Stephens and West Caldwell, might be better than you think. Some of the teams these four have lost to are Freedom, Asheville, South Caldwell, East Lincoln and 4A Watauga. The only team that has beaten a couple of them with a questionable record is Patton.

You mentioned the wins and losses of Maiden's opponents are 61-59 (actually it's 62-59). Since we're talking about tough schedules shouldn't we look at North Surry's opponent's numbers, too? I counted their opponents combined wins as 53 and their losses are 68. North has beaten one team with a winning record and Maiden has beaten four.

Comparing the two and being from this area I believe Maiden has played a pretty tough schedule but I don't believe your numbers or mine are going to prove either one of us right, and I concede that I don't know anything about the Greyhounds.... Probably, the team that plays the hardest and gets the breaks will win.

Never said the teams they played were mediocre. The 3 games they lost were against 3 very good teams. Just stating the facts that the teams they beat combine record is less than .500 The 4 games NS lost were also to 4 very good teams. Actually I know very little about Maiden or the teams they have played just their records. I will say these based on the film I have seen on Maiden their secondary and pass rush looked weak to me. If you give NS time in the pocket and don't get after their QB if could be a long night for Maiden.

Easy Fido. I just made a prediction. Show me where I put your team down.

Well, ok, then, I suppose I should be worrying about Lexington, rather than how tough someone's schedule is but in this last post you mentioned the opponents Maiden defeated have less than a .500 winning percentage, combined. The teams Maiden defeated won 33 games and lost 55 or .375, which looks pretty weak, but maybe not so weak in comparison to the winning percentage of other teams. Look at the combined winning percentage of the teams North Surry beat: 18 wins and 59 losses for a percentage of .233. That's a big difference, a winning percentage of 37.5% versus 23.3%.

You pointed out in another post that three of Maiden's wins were against a team that was 1-10 and an two teams who were 2-9. Considering that, it's worth mentioning three of North Surry's wins were against one team that was 1-10, and two teams that were 0-11.

First it was wins and losses of all the teams they played, then it was wins and losses of teams they had beaten. The only thing this tells me is Maiden played an overall tougher schedule than did North Surry. Does it mean the Blue Devils are better than the Greyhounds, of course not. I think it's impressive NS played East Surry so close.

Numbers like you and I have been discussing leave out a lot of things but maybe it does say that Godevilsgo has some reason to believe Maiden played a tough schedule, which I think you were trying to prove otherwise, and I don't say that in a critical way. I just see it differently.

Thanks Lincolnton for clarifying my statement on the schedule Maiden has played. East Lincoln and Lincolnton are elite teams this year. Maiden lost two games to elite programs. The third game was to a 4A team with 1000 more students than Maiden.

Lots of good kids in Surry County. Made a number of friends in my travels for sports that came from Surry.

1. I sat with the North Surry kids at wrestling states in 2013. Pulled hard for the NS kid who knocked my kid out of the championship bracket. Outstanding young man. Pulled for the Slade kid as well.
2. Moved my daughter to Mt. Airy this summer. She has made a number of friends and they are good people.
3. Maintain contact with two coaches in Surry County.
4. My other daughter lived with two girls in a condo from East Surry at App State for two years. Both very nice young ladies.
5. Probably the only guy in Catawba County that has eaten at Goober's Restaurant. Good burgers and onion rings.

I travel western North Carolina to see high school football. From Asheville to Cary. Last week I was at Crest vs Shelby. I saw half a game at Mt. Airy High this year. Saw Maiden play three times. I'm no expert on football but I get around to seeing a lot more teams than the average Joe. The winner of Maiden vs North Surry gets the reward of facing Monroe. Ouch.

GDG, I've seen that you know football and that you like wrestling. You're so right that whomever wins this one has an awfully tough match facing them in Monroe. I wondered if you'd be going to Moravian Falls, tomorrow, to see the Red Devils play Wilkes Central. Good luck. I'm hoping they can do it.

I have been in a jury duty pool all week except Wednesday. Haven't been selected to sit in the box as of yet. I have to stick around if I get out sometime during the day and take care of my backlog of work. I will likely drive over to Bandys since it's close and catch as much of that game as I can. Hoping the Red Devils can win. The program needs a playoff win. They have one playoff win since 2010. I think the chances are good if they can limit the tailback for Wilkes Central. Here again a win results in a second round reward of playing defending champs East Lincoln and Sir Surratt.

No good luck for the Lincolnton Wolves from GDG. They don't need it. They are dang good.

Neither was any Maiden fan. Godevilsgo is a Newton-Conover fan.
Are you sure Sly? You see red in the GoDevilsGo. Actually I am a Red Devil first and foremost and actually unlike my brothers up here in Newton pull for the Blue Devils second. Although three of my kids were athletes in many sports at Newton-Conover I have attended and continue to attend lots of Maiden sporting events from tennis to volleyball. My son played youth football with Maiden kids and I know lots of kids who came thru the Maiden schools. Even current stars on Maiden's team played for me in youth. When the two get together for events I am all red.

Newton-Conover were originally Blue Devils but due to a jersey color mix up changed their name many moons ago. Go SD7.

I believe Goobers is out of business.

First off I never said North schedule was tough, I never said that the teams they had beaten where good. I did say that they had played 4 really good teams this year and had lost all 4 games. All I said was that the teams Maiden had beaten had a combined loosening record. I guess the truth hurts but it is the truth. Then I went on to say don't sleep on North Surry they may surprise you. I honestly know nothing about Maiden but I do know if you don't get pressure on the QB for North he will be hard to handle, and their defense is playing the best they have all year.

All this butthurt because I stated a simple fact. How bad will it be on here tomorrow after North wins????

recently re opened but is in the building right beside of the old location

RB Huff is still not completely over his injury. Hope he is able to contribute for the Maiden Blue Devils. If not then the entire team is going to need to step it up another notch.

North has some key players injured too!!!

SD7 is the toughest 2A football league in the state hands down!
East over smoky big the surratts will be eating chic fila at halftime and signing autographs in the stands.
Lincolnton wins by 21 over a improved lexington team.
Maiden wins by 28 or more if a healthy huff plays. Who ever thinks North Surry has gained prominence in football they will find out different tonight.
Newton wins a close one at Wilkes Central
West caldwell defeats ashe in a close game as well.

Why wait till tomorrow? It's Maiden 49-7 over North Surry with a running clock to start the fourth quarter. Just big massive difference in the strength of the two conferences.

Final 48-15 Maiden. 9 kids for North Surry ejected for coming off the bench to fight and the coach ejected from game then throws a referee flag at the refs huddled discussing the ejections. Coach hugging and high five kids as he leaves. Just wrong, just very wrong.

Not too good on the sportsmanship side for sure.

Well to be fair the kid from Maiden started the whole thing by taunting. It had no effect on the game as it was all but over at that point, but I don't like that automatic ejection rule for coming off the bench. I mean who wouldn't come to the aid of a teammate? No punches were thrown and everything calmed down. I think there should be some discretion in situations like that.

When 5 cops have to enter the arena on the North Surry side there is a concern. I was directly in front of the play and circus. Men were coming out of the stands confronting the refs who were just doing there best to stop the mess. No one from Maiden came from their side to enter the action. Not one. The coaches new it would mean not advancing in the playoffs. You can't let other players enter the gladiators arena. They didn't do it in Rome either. It was just a bunch of pushing.

St. Stephens, Hibriten, E Burke, W Caldwell all upset their opponents tonight. Wow! Maiden beat most of these teams in the regular season and did well in a scrimmage against E Burke.

What game was you watching? Half the Maiden team came across the field and had to be restrained by coaches. As for the cops they were standing in the corner where this was all started and ran out to help.If it had been on the other side they would have done the same thing. And if you want to talk about men, what about the 7 or 8 men,and I use that term very loosely, from Maiden that were standing at the fence behind the endzone yelling obscenities at our defense during the fourth quarter and asking our players how they won 7 games this year.Yea real men proudly cursing teenagers. As for the fracas, your defensive back was taunting and mouthing and instigating on the whole drive.Once again,if you were directly in front of the play, why didnt you mention what the Maiden player did? I'm sure this film will be sent for review and you will find out how many Maiden players came on the field. So if you are gonna post about it,tell the whole story!
