North Davidson at Oak Grove again

What will the excuses be folks? I'm sure a lot of whining and crying from the OG side!!!:);):p

ND beats the conference champ for the second year in a row to end their season. Ahoskie is the destination next week. Go Black Knights!

I’ll say this. I think the OG staff is top notch and that North staff has taken a beating in the community this year but in terms of preparation and execution being a reflection of coaching, Norths staff embarassed OG staff tonight.

Agreed.

I'll take state personally, but it definitely feels good to advance. Especially after the adversity this team has faced.

BKN, you have to admit, the OG folks were getting to be too much. It is absolutely GREAT to bring them back to reality! I know they all were nervous once the brackets came out last Saturday!

Overall, Norths execution finally matched their talent level tonight and that resulted in a dramatic shift from the first matchup. Oak Grove was/is who they have always been. Tonight they got behind the chains a bit and had to throw it and it was a disaster.

Tough draw for OG. Not much of a reward for a great Season. Let’s hope both teams take care of business next week (not sure I want to see ND again but known opponents could be fun)

This post is dead on. Execiute and limit turnovers, D played excellent game.

If you just see the score and weren’t there, the score doesn’t really even do it justice. It wasn’t anywhere near that close. All the OG folks that were getting to be too much apparently aren’t on here because I don’t see much in the way of being unrealistic. Most everyone I spoke to knew this was a monumental task given the rivalry, the first outcome, being the playoffs, etc. Congrats to North!

In all 5 losses North had this year, they had 5+ turnovers. If this team doesn't turn the ball over they win. Tonight? No turnovers! It's amazing what you can do if you don't turn the ball over!

I agree. Nobody I've seen around here was predicting a state championship for OG. I'm not surprised to see ND win tonight, but I don't think anybody predicted the total domination we saw. It looked like ND against one of the teams from the bottom of the conference, not the conference champs.

Oak Grove had a great year, but I think teams started to figure out the formula to slow down the offense as the year went on. Stack the box to limit the run, and bring lots of pressure on the passing downs. They just never really had the screen game or quick crossing routes to negate that strategy, and the play calling just got more and more conservative it seems.

Just to reply to my own comment, there were at least 3 probable pick-sixes dropped by ND - smothering D against the run and the pass allowed nothing. Combine that with execution on O and no turnovers (the stat today that in all ND losses they had at least 4 blew my mind) and the outcome could have been worse.

I like both schools. Love North but don't hate OG. I had visions of Davie in 2010 losing to us the last week of the regular season and then winning the week after. We don't get to get back at Ledford this time but I will gladly request off work to go to Ahoskie next week. Gonna be a big crowd. Go Knights!

Oh man... Every now and then I think of those 2010 back to back Davie games... and then Davie’s run to the championship game... Ick.

OG had a great season and won the conference in only their second year. That's great. I remember North losing in the first round in 1999 after going undefeated to a stronger than their seed Northwest Cabarrass team. They went to the 4th round I believe. Could be wrong.

The point is good teams get bad draws and North was hyped for this one and laser focused. North fans were more into the game than any this year by far.

OG fans left really early, like at halftime. Was a bit disappointing.

I wouldn’t mind going to Hertford next week, but its a long trip to turn and burn right back home in the same day. I’ll probably skip it. But I can guarantee North will bring a crowd. Just looked at the satellite view for Hertford and it looks like they have a nice sized visitor’s section.

I vaguely remember the T-shirt that North had made in 1999 after the regular season ended... I think it said something like “10-0, we are now the hunted”. There may have been a bullseye on that shirt too. Anyone else remember it? I thought it was an odd choice, and then after the first round loss, I bet most of those shirts went in the dumpster.

Is Hertford High School in Ahoskie and the high school in the Town of Hertford Perquimmons? Rockingham County and the Town of Rockingham has always been confusing - at least they’re separated by 6 counties and a couple hundred miles. Being next door to each other is tougher I’m sure.

I’m with you on Rockingham... I may have finally figured that one out... but still have to stop and think. There are others that confuse me. Yancey County is 217 miles from Yanceyville. Lenoir County is 268 miles from Lenoir. Jacksonville and Jackson County are a million miles away from each other. Obviously Davidson and Davidson County aren’t neighbors. Then Ashe County being around 2 hours from Asheville and Asheboro! And don’t get me started on Hendersonville vs Henderson!
