MPC Final Week

Ledford at ND
MC at Aboro
CD at OG

And so it begins and so it ends...

Final week for the MPC both this year and this version of the conference forever. No more 3A ball after realignment hits... it was an experience for certain.

North welcomes Ledford and both squads are desperate for a season ending victory. A win for North probably puts them in the playoffs. Ledford I'm not sure but they would love to ruin Norths chances I'm certain. North has not missed the playoffs since 06 so that is kind of a big deal to Black Knight fans... on the other hand Sending Ledford to purgatory in the cellar of the conference would be even sweeter...

Aboro is hitting their stride and will probably beat MC but that's why they play the game. Aboro seeking their first win over MC and they already did it to ND and Ledford so why not?

OG and Central for the conference title... OG wins imo but Central will be hungry after losing to ND last week and having a chance for a tie for the title is motivation enough. Grizzlies pull it out in the second half as usual after Central gives them a slow start in the first half. Central usually pushes OG to the brink and I would not be surprised if they do it again but I call for OG to win the 4th qtr as usual.

Good luck and safe travels everyone!

ND, Asheboro, OG all win. 3A west must be bad this year for teams with a 4-6 record to get into the playoffs.

Yeah I dunno... I've seen teams at all divisions get in with just 2 or 3 wins over the years... now there is an extra round in the playoffs because of taking the endowment game out. Do the math haha. Not saying sub .500 teams should get in but I've seen way worse honestly.

Common in 1A for sure. Hope whoever gets in does well. An extra game of experience is worth the gas in the bus and building to the next season.

There have been winless 1-A teams in the playoffs.
P.S. Maybe some football history buffs will know the answer to the question of what is the 2-A, 3-A, or 4-A team that went the deepest in the playoffs when starting the playoffs with a sub .500 record.

Good things coming for SD in 1A. Ditto for Tville. Finishing 5-3 as a 1A school is very impressive. 3A sized Lexington has tons of work still ahead... look at Tyro doing good things too!

As far as 4A, Davie County finished with a losing record in 2010. Lost in a blowout to ND the final game of the season at Davie, turned around and came to Welcome next week to blow us out in the 4th qtr in the first round. Got revenge on Tabor next week and rode it to the state title at Wake Forest where Vad Lee and Durham Hillside put that Cinderella story to bed 40-0...

Chiming in on the middle school season and will be biased here, lol. It was a pretty exciting season despite us going 6-2.

SD pushed OG into OT to open season; they looked solid and should continue progressing!

The OG @ ND game last night was an exciting close game but one winnable by OG but there were missed opportunities.

Kudos and congrats to ND for the win! If anyone in here has a child on NDMS; I would like to ask how #7 is; he got popped hard near end of game and appears he was likely concussed and I hope he is okay!

That said had my son been playing I think it very likely would have gone a bit different, (he is sure it would have!) lol. Unfortunately he was out due to a shoulder injury (separated) he suffered a few weeks ago in another game. Who knows; even if he played it could have ended how it did; but I’d be willing to bet he punches it into the endzone on 4th & goal on the 1/2 yard line rather than a turnover on downs. FWIW, he was the only one on our team that played iron man and was one of the main RBs. (See said it would be biased, lol and at the end of the day he wasn’t able to play so it is what it is and again kudos to ND!!)

He will be ready for HS next year though and has a fire burning in his belly!

Not sure about the rest of the state but Thomasville entered the 2A playoffs in 2012 at 4-7 and made it to the 3rd round where they lost 28-12 to the eventual state champions in East Lincoln.

Congrats to OG on the conference championship and number one seed from the conference. Perhaps we might have a rematch depending on seeds? Good luck to all in the playoffs!

OG looking good. I think they can make third, possibly fourth round depending on matchups.

ND will face a tall task but did well in the second half of the season to finish strong and make it here. They are prepared for it well after a strong 4A nonconference schedule and facing OG as well as Aboros speed and Centrals power.

Aboro did not finish how I thought but did well this season learning how to win and finish. They have good days ahead imo.

Central can score an upset in the playoffs with their style and have much to be proud of.

MC has made serious strides and I wish them well. Their coach is amazing considering what he has done here and at Pinecrest.

Ledford got lots of work to do and according to my sister and brother in law who worked there and live in Hasty there isn't much talent coming the next few years. We shall see...

The MPC is weaker than when it assumed its current members four years ago. North might be the weakest #2 in the state (minus split conferences). I do hope the realignment allows some of the teams to stay together (not you Montgomery Central). I’m hearing that there could be more split conferences to avoid as many hour+ drives as the new classifications will likely create. It’s all about gate money in a world where everyone has other things to do on a Friday night these days. Central Davidson was playing for the #1 seed on Friday night and they didn’t come close to filling up the visitors side of the stadium. That loss to North really burst their bubble I guess.

I guess I could see that but at the same time I don't. North has gotten weaker and so has Ledford. Central, OG Aboro and MC have all gotten better imo. I'd say it's about the same with little difference to be honest

You’ve got a good point. I definitely see where you are coming from. I hadn’t looked at it from that angle.
