North Davidson at Hertford County

A co-worker of mine is an official. I asked him about it later that week. He told me there is supposed to be an ambulance there before the game starts.
That’s always been my understanding. It is at Thomasville and always heard it was a state requirement.

I had an E.A.P. meeting prior to a game at HP Central (several weeks ago) and was told that there was no ambulance onsite. There was a severe shortage of EMT'S in Guilford county and there was not one available to sit and idle during the game.

I like you OC, thought they were required.

To be honest ever since these private ambulance services have been popping up I haven't seen any ambulances on site for any game I have attended this year. Or any few years prior. It use to be a mainstay about 10 years ago that an ambulance was onsite.

I dunno man. That Shelby team was just ON that day. I still think they were just a match up nightmare athletically. The game would have been closer maybe, but I have no trouble admitting they were the better team.

I think if we beat East Duplin we would have been able to beat Hibriten. It would have been a good game either way.

If ambulances are required to be onsite, then I think that's a silly rule. Don't get me wrong. I like the idea. I just don't think it should be a requirement. Not all counties have the luxury of having one sitting at a game, especially if they have multiple schools. Are they required at other sports? Someone can hit their head on the hardwood or be struck by a fast moving baseball. And what if the ambulance is called away, as I've seen a few times. They don't stop the game. Idk. Seems like a requirement that can't be uniformally enforced.

Yep, I say again, 4a football team intact. We're not upset about it, don't take my comments wrong, but one look at that football, and ya just know. The deck was stacked in y'all's favor last year, had your tailback not gotten hurt, I think y'all win it all. Compare this years team to last year's. See the difference.
Whatever....

That's true. Not your fault where they put ya. So, we have a 3a school playing 2a ball, plus playing a few kids outside the school district. Like I said, 4a football team playing 2a ball.

Just to clear things up. No kids were out of district.

The team that lost to East Duplin 2 years ago had 3A numbers in the Sr and Jr classes. The lower grades were 2A size.

The team that came to SWE last year had 3A numbers in the SR class only and 2A numbers in the other grades.

Still not fair to the other schools, but not as bad as has been portrayed.

I’m not sure that north Davidson has an actual ambulance on site. But I do know that there is also a kind of rescue vehicle (vfd) on site at any of their football games. I don’t know what that means as far as an emergency is concerned. But ambulances are at a premium pretty much anywhere you go.

Like the Nd fans said, I still don't think they were better than Shelby.

Reidsville Rescue Squad has always been on site for Reidsville games since time immemorial....lol....most of the time they are not needed....Thank the Lord............nice to know they are there tho.....unsung heroes...................

Nope. I enjoyed pulling for those kids at ND, but no way were they better than Shelby, even if Brown doesn't get hurt.

But, I bet Shelby fans would say that you guys were the toughest challenger they've had in the championship in a while

What can you guys tell us about Hertford County?

I know plenty about Ahoskie and their athletes. They were a state power for years before the schools merged and legendary coach Darryl Allen retired.

Ahoskie is a long ways away but I am taking off work to make the trip.

Speed will be a concern for the Knights but I would like to know how many passing teams Hertford played this year in the East.

Should be a good game. North fans travel well, expect a good crowd.
Go Black Knights!

Some history on Hertford and Ahoskie...

Ahoskie won an Area State Title in 1966, just like ND. They won the Eastern State Title (no unified title) in 1970 against Allen Jay, my father's senior year. They consolidated the white and black schools that year giving Ahoskie the biggest 2A school in the state. They moved up to 3A the next year.

They lost the 3A state title to Ragsdale in 1974, and to South Point in 1979.

They came back down to 2A and lost to Lexington in 1986. They then became Hertford County and lost to Thomasville in 1988.

Hertford also went back up to 3A and went to the East Regional in 2004.

So this school and city have ALOT of history and tradition. They have good athletes and the Knights will certainly be challenged by speed this Friday. Good luck to both teams and stay safe everybody!

Hertford County is a lot like Edenton Holmes. They are always strong and occasionally a serious championship contender, but the media coverage is practically zero. Based on the results, I would say the Bears look like the favorites, but you never know about specific matchups. I would never have expected North Davidson to put up as many points against SW Edgecombe as they did last year, but sometimes you just have that silver bullet.

You're right. I'd say the I95/US64 corner of the state is a dead zone coverage wise.

Nut you use speed quite often as what hurts North but recent history would contradict that narrative. Our last year in 4A we beat Scotland that had much more team speed than the Knights but were eliminated by Catholic who had less speed than us. They made no mistakes and were precision in running their offense. The next year we beat South Granville who had superior speed to us. We lost East Duplin not because of speed but because they whipped us at the the line of scrimmage. Shelby was quicker overall just more skilled than we were,

We beat Salisbury but their speed hurt us badly. Parkland beat us with Speed, and arguably Davie did to a degree. Tabor always beat us with speed, I don't think it's a stretch to say to say we have won games like Scotland while still getting killed by speed.

As long as North outscores people it doesn't make as much difference. It's still a big weakness, like the option is. OG and Ledford are the same way. This has always been the case for northern davidson county and probably always will be.

Parkland didn't beat us with speed. QB made plays outside the pocket (one a 4th and 35) when our secondary wasn't playing so well. We also made alot of stupid penalties against Parkland . Our secondary is very much improved since that game and the Davie game..

Well I sure hope so. Because that is another thing historically we struggle with lol.

I agree that they have improved over the course of the year. My concern is if the HC qb has a good game or not.

Receivers got behind us and he scrambled all night. That is the definition of getting beat by speed lol. Talking about our teams weaknesses does not mean I'm not rooting for us. I just understand our limitations, the same limitation in this instance that got Ledford beat last week and Oak Grove has as well.

Just my $0.02, but all five games North lost this year were because of turnovers. In all 5 losses, at least in 4 that I'm sure of, they had 5 or more turnovers in those games. They also had the amazing ability of letting the other team get points off of those turnovers. They had second half leads in at least 4 of those 5 games (maybe the Parkland game was the exception), and turnovers absolutely killed them.

A rash of turnovers in one game means you probably ran into a pretty stiff defense. The more often it happens, the more you have to examine discipline on the offensive side of the ball. Ball security is critical, especially for a QB. Also, if the offense falters, the defense has to be able to respond. Offense, Defense and Special Teams have to support each other. If the defense fails to cover for the offense, if the offense can't answer after a quick score, If the defense can't hold after a long kick return, its either lack of talent or lack of focus. I wish you guys luck.

HowerinJr, the funny thing about this ND team is, if they don't turn the ball over, THEY WIN!! LOL! In their seven wins, they may have a combined 2 or 3 turnovers, and it may not be that many.

Speed and Athleticism are not the same thing. QB avoided the rush for long periods until the receivers came open. Joe Butts wasn't blessed with great speed but he could do the same thing making plays. I will agree on the point that Mt Tabor did hurt us with speed because they ran a scheme to exploit it.

In the Thomasvile game we had 4 turnovers, 8 dropped passes, missed 3 field goals and had a punt blocked that gave them the ball inside the 10. We only lost by 3 points

I may be wrong here, but I believe T-ville got all 17 points from those ND turnovers.

That's not surprising really. Good teams that don't turn the ball over usually win.

Turnovers in the first half of the Ledford game kept it from being a blowout at halftime. They kept the ball from us in the 2nd half and won going away.

Time distorts the narrative of a game. North totaled negative seven yards in the whole second half and at no point was on the verge of a blowout.

The first two drives North went about 60 yards and fumbled the ball. It could have been 16-0 or 24-0 as one of those turnovers led directly to Ledford points. It would have already been over instead of 10-7. Momentum is a huge thing and Ledford had It the entire second half in dominating fashion because North never seized it in the first.

Just got here. Bad traffic on the way down in a few spots. 10:06 left in the half, ND with a TD pass to Go up 20-7.
