What can you guys tell us about Hertford County?

I know plenty about Ahoskie and their athletes. They were a state power for years before the schools merged and legendary coach Darryl Allen retired.

Ahoskie is a long ways away but I am taking off work to make the trip.

Speed will be a concern for the Knights but I would like to know how many passing teams Hertford played this year in the East.

Should be a good game. North fans travel well, expect a good crowd.

East Duplin played them earlier in the season and I’ve got to say, HC plays with a lot of heart and doesn’t give up. The film and “scouting report” will say that they’re a spread team and like to air it out, but honestly they had a lot more success running the ball against us.

ND's style is how they love to play. Stopping a power, run the ball down your throat team will cause them the most problems. Should be a good game
Thank you CrazyHeel. That makes me a bit worried because teams with similar styles usually have the better athletes win, and overall they are probably more athletic than us...

I will say I have loved the improvement of our D the last few weeks of the season. Light years better than they were at the start.

Just a heads up to the fans driving to Ahoskie. When you exit off highway 64 on to highway 11 watch out for deer, it's hunting season and our friends state highway patrol. They work highway 11 heavy. The high school is essay to find off Hwy 11. In Ahoskie there are not many good eating places, plenty of chain fast food places. If you like pizza the pizza inn is ok. Safe travels. HC is big and fast. The quarter back can air it out.

Lol it would be a much better game if we had got to play you guys this year
Lol. I still don't know what happened last year. You guys just came out and popped us in the mouth one good time, and we were concussed from then on out. We weren't as bad as we played. Sorry about that.

He's right. The main highway that takes you into Ahoskie is about 35 miles of dark deer country. Straight as a pin, cut through the woods. Bear and wild hog country too, but they have enough sense to stay in the woods. The deer, not so much. And like he said, don't speed. All the troopers do is ride up and down the highway. The darkness, and it will be dark, is a great cover for them. Be safe.

We had an elite defense and a great offensive line last year. That was the difference. This year we are still good talent wise but not nearly as good.

We lost to HC but were cruising along easily in the first quarter when our qb got lit up on a 64 yd td throw. That put us up 14-0 but we had no qb. They went on to beat us that night. They have no running game what so ever. They run the ball worse than we do. What they do have is a young qb who loves to air it out. He's also the coach's son. They are Goin to throw and keep throwing. They have very tall wide receivers which definitely gives them an advantage over their defenders. They just keep throwing until they finally connect. Their qb is not that impressive at all he just throws so much he has to eventually connect. If N Davidson is any good at all you should win easily. Currituck went into Ahoskie and beat the brakes off of HC. This coming after Northeastern went to Currituck County and beat them with a 5'6 150lb wide receiver at qb. Had we not of lost our qb we would've beat them very bad. As someone stated earlier there isn't to many food choices in Ahoskie aside from Pizza Inn and some fast food chains. So you might want to eat somewhere before you arrive.

Wow, HC throws the ball like that? I thought they were still a power running team. Back in the late 90s boy... them and Bertie up the road would run over you on every play, on offense AND defense. Hertford County is the team that made me quit football. On a 5 yard cross pattern, their LB hit me so hard, I got up and ran to their bench instead of ours by mistake. Needless to say, it was an incomplete pass. Almost an incomplete spine too.

I agree, the coach tries to pad the stats of the QB, which is ridiculous when they have a good RB in Smallwood. The QB can only throw 2 patterns well. The WR screen and the right sideline go route. You defend those 2 you beat HC. They are a team with talent that could reach the finals but passing so much with their QB that makes alot of mistakes will cost them reaching the 2AA finals and will be a disservice to alot of those kids on that team.

The 10 seniors on defense that played for North last year started as sophomores (many of them) playing 4A ball. When they came down to 2A it was almost too easy, except when they played East Duplin and Shelby.

The offense has been more of a revolving door with us plugging in a new qb and rb the past couple years. Our qb that torched teams last year got injured. His backup, now starter, is a good passer but really kills when he tucks and runs in open field. He is a junior so will be back next year and hopefully stays healthy. He's a good one.

Overall ND was transitioning from 4A to 2A but let's not act like West Forsyth was playing 2A ball with 2400 students. North had 1300 the first year and 1100 last year. 3A numbers but nothing outrageous. Blame the NCHSAA for that. I think ND should have played 3A and then 2A. We would have been 3A anyway, considering Tabor and Parkland went to 3A and we had less students than them. North was NOT a 4A team playing 2A ball no matter how people want to slice it.

Looks like Hertford has put up some points this year. Could be a shootout. Hopefully the Knights bring their A game like against OG. If they play like they did Friday night I'm pretty confident they win again. Gotta maintain focus...

3A playing 2A, then? Lol

That's true. Not your fault where they put ya. So, we have a 3a school playing 2a ball, plus playing a few kids outside the school district. Like I said, 4a football team playing 2a ball.

Oak Grove is the biggest school in DC. Not even close to 4A lol.

I know it's just trolling but I find it interesting how ND got complained about for coming down to 2A from 4A but nobody said anything about Ledford coming down from being a large 3A. Heck, they beat Kings Mountain the year before they came down and still nobody cared.

North, OG and Ledford all have the same weakness: speed. So any of them would have the same problems with Hertford County. Ledford already got beat because they rely entirely too much on defense and one player on offense. Hopefully North can contain Hertfords speed and move the ball enough to win. The main thing is EXECUTION! They were perfect last week, hopefully that doesn't result in a letdown now.

They were not out side the school district. OG opened with Sophomores and freshmen. The junior and senior class stayed at North and Ledford. So we didn’t have any out of district kids playing.

I wonder if North will consider a bus option that they have offered a few times before on long trips? Also I pray if we have a serious injury that the player won't have to lay on the field for nearly an hour waiting on an ambulance like last year.

They should consider a charter bus. It'd be safer.
And keep in mind, we are rural. We don't have many resources. There are other medical situations going on on Friday nights. An ambulance is usually at the stadium when there is one available. But if something else in the area is going on first, they have to be there first. We don't have 20 ambulances roaming the county. We have what we have, which is but a few. They can't drop what they're doing on a call answer another call. And some medical emergencies supersede a leg injury. They came a quickly as they could once available.

It was my understanding that the ambulance scheduled to come to SW that had responded to a heart Attack or stroke call. None the less, that ball should have not been kicked before one had arrived.

Yep, I say again, 4a football team intact. We're not upset about it, don't take my comments wrong, but one look at that football, and ya just know. The deck was stacked in y'all's favor last year, had your tailback not gotten hurt, I think y'all win it all. Compare this years team to last year's. See the difference.

Idk, fellow Cougar. Try telling people that the game won't start until an ambulance gets there. Who's to say that 10 heart attacks wouldn't happen elsewhere? The game would never start. Besides, I think it's a courtesy but not a requirement to have an ambulance on the scene at all times. I mean, why not have an ambulance in my yard when I'm about to fire up the gas grill? The potential for disaster is there as well. When we play football at my house this Thanksgiving, someone WILL get hurt. But we'll play without having an ambulance here. It's nice, but I don't think the game should be haulted until one is on the scene. There's no telling what time games would start in country areas like ours.

I dunno man. That Shelby team was just ON that day. I still think they were just a match up nightmare athletically. The game would have been closer maybe, but I have no trouble admitting they were the better team.

I think if we beat East Duplin we would have been able to beat Hibriten. It would have been a good game either way.

A co-worker of mine is an official. I asked him about it later that week. He told me there is supposed to be an ambulance there before the game starts.

Shouldn't be an issue at Hertford county. The ambulance depot is a 1/4 mile up the road and the hospital is 1mile away.
