Per Austin Bailey of TDC:

BREAKING: East Rutherford High School will not field a varsity football program this year. Staff is working on modifying the JV schedule to get as many games as possible for team.

Hate to see this but probably best for the future of that program.

Hate to hear that. We had them on the schedule but we’re told last night that was a possibility. Hopefully they can turn things around.

It’s sad how low # can have a effect on HS athletics in general I mean even girls sports are down in # as compared to what they were in 90s and even early 2000s like that’s why some schools don’t have JV girls basketball or whatever the case

I don’t know why anyone would think this is funny. As one of my Facebook friends said (not an East fan by the way), it’s like a movie without popcorn.

Another one of my Facebook friends (he used to be a coach at Burns) said he heard about 20 players transferred because they didn’t want to play for the previous coach.

I haven't heard who McDowell has replaced them with but there aren't a lot of teams with byes in week 3 (Sept. 3).

I have heard the same about players transferring because of not waiting to play for the previous coach either. Now that same coach is at Owen with low numbers.

East has always seemed to be very cyclical in talent compared to a lot of schools. Hope they can get the ship righted. This is troubling.

wow, Burns and ER always had some good games. I sure hope things look up soon. Do current players have the option to transfer ? I also have to wonder how many players TJ took from East.
A bunch of players already have that’s part of the reason they want field a team

This isn’t about kids not wanting to play football it’s about kids not wanting to play for the coaches. Think back to spring when they didn’t play Shelby ... the players were done with the staff and I was told from many of them that East wouldn’t have a football team until big changes made. East has had some of the best athletes to come through Rutherford co. and totally pissed them away...

Who did ER have for weeks 5 and 6?
Robbinsville is open both those weeks.

My question is: what will be the class makeup of the jv team that'll be fielded? No juniors or seniors?

I just feel like fielding just one team would be more beneficial as a varsity team. But that heavily depends on the class breakdown within your team. I say if you have a solid handful of juniors then you take that leap.

Clearly this is Extremely funny

It would probably be similar to what Lake Norman Charter did. They had 9-10 or so Juniors on their JV team and they dropped varsity football for last season.
