Both teams had two weeks to prepare for this matchup coming of byes. This should be a good and competitive non-conference game.

Just hope N-C don't overlook Hickory and worry about Hibriten...

Hibriten is an expected win and a powerhouse pretty much. Who woulda ever thought this would come being in the 90s. To beat West that bad shows there's a playoff force coming. Should Newton lose to Hibriten and I'm sure they will there is nothing to hang their heads about. Newton will be fine rest of way after Hibriten. Should do ok with Hickory, expecting a great game.

This is a rivalry that goes back to the 40s doesn't it? Kinda like with Statesville except cross town.

HHS had it's first ever victory against Newton in 1923, winning 26-0. The overall record against Newton/Newton-Conover is HHS 47 Newton/Newton Conover 25 with 2 ties along the way.

The Red Devils have had much more success the last 15 years, but the Red Tornadoes are not going to roll over as they have the past few years.I believe the Red Tornadoes have the team to play with N/C this year and the game could be closer than you all may think.

Coach Stone has reminded the team that they are capable of defeating anyone and I believe they are. Coach Stone has shown he knows how to put the kids in the right position to win and to get them to believe in themselves.

Will do as I can. I go by his practices and enjoy his energy and his interaction with the kids. He needs some more Assistants and hopefully he can get some more on board.

This is a very interesting game as it should be. Somewhat of a first test for Newton and an opportunity for Hickory to get some momentum going and get the program back on track. I believe this game will come down to which coach is able to make adjustments and of course, who can get one more stop than the other.

I am a N-C fan and love how coach Beam is shaping the offense but there has been no improvement in coaching the defense...our best teams have always been strong on defense...so I believe if it comes down to N-C making a defensive stop to win,Hickory wins...

What do you mean, "There has been no improvement in coaching the defense"? Are you saying that the defensive coaches aren't trying to improve the defense? Are you saying the coaching staff has not gotten better?

Miscues cost Hickory the game....defense was scorched stat wise..
same ol ,same ol...hope to outscore the other team...good thing is N-C will be be facing primarily run teams which they have done better with...

Hky looked better in certain areas compared to last year. Once they get in sync with the passing game, they should be able to score alot of points on some teams this year. There were opportunities but overthrown passes kept them from really making this a competitive matchup.

N-C will hit a brick wall when they face Hibriten. They might score one TD. 2 if their on point and speedy but it's gonna be all Hibriten. I see Newton winning the rest of their games, maiden is questionable but rest should be ok. Looking like a down year for rest of Lincoln co except West but they'll get by them this year no doubt. But barley

Our defense is playing hard, fast and agressive and I like what I'm seeing. Hickory is on a three game win streak and like I said in an earlier post, they will win some games and score points on teams this year. Good luck on the rest of your season Hickory High.
