NCPreps.com/HS Media Basketball Polls - 2/5

It'll be interesting to see if anyone can challenge RM Prep/Voyager in 1A East. I see a few potential candidates there.

The 2A/3A/4A playoffs are going to be amazing. So many good teams.

I've got to give the Eastern Guilford girls props. I knew they would have a chance to have a pretty decent year but I didn't foresee them being 18-3 at this point. I hope they can keep their success going.

I did end up checking out Southern Lee last week. Good ballclub no doubt.....but I don't think they're Top 10 worthy. I think you have them about just right. Ironically, their best player is football star Nate Thompson. I like his game....he does a little bit of everything for that team.

Also, the Northern Guilford girls are poised for a repeat. Three of their losses were very early in the year and they didn't have Elissa Cunane at their disposal. She makes a world of difference.

Finally checked out Northern Durham last night.....

Not bad. Not bad at all. They've got a nice blend of size, skill, and athleticism. Ricky Council IV is fun to watch. The Spartans won a barnburner against Chapel Hill. Might have been the loudest game I've witnessed this year.

I went back and looked at the 3A poll. I think their ranking is about right. Definitely top ten but slightly out of top five. Dangerous team regardless.

Whoever draws Chapel Hill in the first round will be in for an interesting night. I liked what I saw out of them. Smart and unselfish. Elijah Haynes isn't the biggest guy around but, man, that kid can ball.

Chapel Hill also has a 6-10 junior named David Elien. After witnessing tonight's game, I'm puzzled as to why I haven't seen him on any recruiting lists. He was mobile, had some good length, had a decent pair of hands, and had a nice touch on his free throws. He had a couple of big, back-to-back blocks down the stretch. I think the high D2's/low D1's should take a glance at him.

Oh, one more thing.....

If any team winds up playing Northern Durham in the state playoffs.....BEWARE THE WHISTLER. This guy is a hardcore Northern fan who whistled loudly the entire freaking game. Drove Chapel Hill fans (and myself) crazy.

Reidsville now 16-4 ...clinched midstate 2A conference last night, 11 game winning streak

Clinton now 20-1(11-0) hoping to put the finishing touches on a undefeated regular season conference title Thursday night at East Duplin....conference tourney starts next Wednesday at East Duplin Clinton will have a round 1 bye play winner of #4 #5 game Thursday

Sounds very similar to a guy named Ben Strong who played at Chapel Hill a few years ago, who was overlooked and ended up being D3 player of the year at Guilford then played for years overseas and in the D League.

Reidsville's only non-conference losses were to private schools Word of God of Raleigh and West Oaks Academy of Florida and to Greensboro Smith (one of the top teams in 3-A). One conference loss was a 2-pointer to Carrboro.

Trying to figure out why maxpreps is so in love with Greene Central and Kinston....Clinton and Fairmont getting the short end of the stick...strength of schedule should not be that much of a factor....Clinton 21-1 Fairmont 22-1 still not ranked ahead of GC 18-5
